Big D do some more vids like this please. Nostalgic heaven! In the 80's 90's my older brother would bring home catalogues and brochures from Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, Trio, etc etc and I would drool over them and plan my set up for my future car. Big dreams that didn't happen. But i'm enjoying your vids and getting inspired to start a project! Great work mate! You're so lucky to have stuff donated to you...especially in original packaging!

  • @epicmotorcyclechannel307

Congrats on your channel success. I remember being into your videos a few years ago and recently have been thinking about car audio again so had to track you back down.
I graduated HS in 1990 so I grew up in the heyday of the car audio rise of the 80's and 90's. IASCA competitions, RF Punch, Orion, Alpine, Kenwood, Audio Control etc. Those Alpine head units with the lime green chicklet buttons give me a visceral reaction when I see them still to this day. A thousand watt system that would "romp" but also sounded clean was the stuff us broke HS kids dreamed of. Especially when a Punch 45 was like 250 bucks. That's 5 bucks a watt! Now it seems that the culture these days, with $100 Class D amps that alone can pump out well over 1kw and speakers with tires for cone surrounds, bouncing quarters off a roof isn't a novelty anymore, it's the norm!

When I saw the Sony products you just unboxed it it lit up my heart I remember that stuff. And I was lucky enough a few years after high school to get a job there is an installer and it where's my life for many many years as I said before. The tech that has disappeared is the old under dash equalizer/amplifier. You can't find them anymore. Remember when you could put a 10 band/120W EQ/amp under the dash and run speaker wires to the back dash (which was mostly carpeted fiberboard)?

Man those old spade terminals on the speaker! Reminds me when I first got in car/home audio. I never had money so when I got something like a speaker instead of properly hooking it up I would just twist the wire and put in through the hole of the connector and wrap it around itself. Using car speakers inside on my receiver, knowing nothing about what ohms and resistance means.

Those pyramid models still were around $250 iirc at my local flea market, not cheap by any means. My buddy had that sony 4xch amp powering some boston acoustics separates in his 89 crx. Yep crutchfield catalogs were the best!!! If you ever get a chance, check out the crutchfield store brand amps from the late 80s... they were made by ppi at the time and were really good for the $. You know by today's standards my old amps would be considered weak but I ran two kicker 240's bridged down, one per sub. Now they were 4,2,&1 ohm stable and I should add that I also ran a cadence QR-7 crossover with 7 volt line driver which you almost never hear about any more but what an improvement they made boosting the line voltage before the amps . Also I should add that the two kicker amps had been rebuilt and may have had an upgrade when rebuilt but those little guys slammed in my little hatchback! Deep bass!!! In fact we hit 144 DB and they had the meter in the floorboard and we found that there was a lot of junk under the seat so I wonder what it would have ran if the junk would have been cleaned out first! However it was my first time attending a stereo competition!

I had an XEC-1000 back at the end of the 90’s into the 2000’s. I really wish I knew where it went. That thing was mint at the time. I’d never trade it for any of the audio control stuff I’ve got now, but it would be neat to have to show how far I’ve come since those early days of audio gear.

I had a chance to buy a pair of those Ecstacy subs brand new for damn cheap and didn't. Up to this day I kick myself for not getting them. Having something like that pop up here in Belize is like winning the lottery.

I remember the first time I heard the Kef Kar 6 1/2 speakers in a maxima, it was the rep car, I kept looking for the tweeters in the a pillars. The center tweeter made the highs sound like they were above the dash.. Great sounding speakers, but the passive crossovers were the size of a small amp. The rep had Kef, Velodyne and I think Rodek. Best sounding sub with 300 rims, the velodrome servo sub was so accurate, best sound q sub

I used to have a big version of that SPL amp. Also I had the subs when they came in a dedicated suite case for each speaker. Memories

1:59 The satin black Alpine with the faux wood grain reminds me of classy mid 90s Mercedes automobiles and Pioneer Elite home audio gear. It also reminds me of mid 80s Ford Ranger dashboards. Either way I like it
