- Sissel Kyrkjebø performing "Adagio" by Albinoni at the opening concert of the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Sissel, the international singing sensation and national treasure of Norway, is established as one of the world’s leading crossover sopranos. Her angelic and powerful voice has made Sissel a national institution and she has sung all over the world, selling over ten million solo albums. She has contributed haunting vocal tracks for the soundtrack to Titanic and The Lord of the Rings, and has been performing duets with singers like Charles Aznavour, Andrea Bocelli, Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, Mario Frangoulis, Josh Groban, Brian May, Neil Sedaka, Bryn Terfel and Russell Watson. In 2005, she was knighted by the King of Norway, as the youngest ever to receive this honour. And in 2006, her album 'The Spirit of the Season' with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir went to number-one on the Billboard Classical Charts, and received a Grammy nomination. A very remarkable voice that only comes once in our lifetime.
"Adagio", also known as "Adagio in G minor" for strings and organ is a neo-Baroque composition commonly attributed to the 18th-century Venetian master Tomaso Albinoni, but actually composed by 20th-century musicologist and Albinoni biographer Remo Giazotto, purportedly based on the discovery of a manuscript fragment by Albinoni. The piece is most commonly orchestrated for string ensemble and organ, or string ensemble alone, but with its growing fame has been transcribed for other instruments. Sissel Kyrkjebø recorded the song with lyrics for her 2006 album, Into Paradise, and also included it on her greatest hits album, De Beste same year. - Hudba

No twerking, no dancing around, no background singers to lift her up onto their shoulders... just a voice and talent that mesmerizes an audience!
I have watched her since she first began performing in public. Over the years, the air styles, clothing, and appearance have changed. At this age, she is so so stunning. However, videos of her singing in a very relaxed setting outside in the last year or so she is more comfortable and more beautiful than ever. Her perfect voice brings wonderful music to everyone's ears. There should never be any discussion about her excellent crystalline notes. I do not believe I will ever hear anyone with a more pitch-perfect voice in my lifetime. She is not only a National Treasure of Norway but to the world. If you need convincing, listen to her performance of "slow down" with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I look at her face and neck for enlarged blood vessels or tendons straining, and there are none. You will not see that in other professional performers. I have a background in music for many decades. My wife is a concert Oboist and English Horn player. We love all genres of music. Sissel is the most magnificent of all female singers.

Maybe because they compared this version to that one by Lara Fabian or/and to the original, without lyrics. Her performance, in my oppinion, was very beautiful.
Some people react automatically to being told how to think. Personally, I will decide the merits of singers I like. Sissel has a beautiful voice; one of many beautiful voices.

She has the most Divine voice .. 💕 I heard her live at Momarken, Norway, many years ago. Neil Sedaka was there and she sang his "Solitaire" with him playing at the grand piano. You could see how proud he was to hear Sissel sing that song. It was a pure joy to be there. 🙏💕🇧🇻

she's done other "haunting" work through the years. She has the tremendous range it takes to pull it off and I've therefore been a fan of hers for many years now. Plus she sings in many languages including absolutely perfect English. I really have NO idea how she does it.
