  • In this video i've tried to explain all the reasons why Both jaguar and landrover brands were running in losses, i have discussed about a JLR's notorious long running reliablity issues, Both jaguar and landrover brands are unable to make reliable cars since they were the part of a nationalised British comapny BL.
However, after becoming the part of TATA, both brands have strarted to show postive results, TATA was able to turn these brands around.
Even though they still suffers from reliablity issues, they have drasticly reduced over the period of TATA's ownership.

JLR didn't make any profit, but tata grew exponentially after they acquire JLR, tata cars have taken every technology from JLR and implemented in TATA, so its a profitable acquisition for TATA.

    1. In 2008 Jaguar had the same reliability as Lexus. Check jaguar xk review by Clarkson.
    2. Jaguar XF was never entry level and first engine was 2.7d twin turbo not the v8.
    3. Recalls common in all cars. Check bmw n47.
There is a change coming. Quality will improve. What happened in last 4 years they started making their own engines ingenium and the issue is chains. They will fix this surely.
And personally I own both bmw F10, mercedes 4x4 and 2 jaguars. Guess which have the best reliability..... JAGUAR

Tata has definitely benefitted from JLR acquisition as their Harrier is quite inspired from Range Rover design which is why it is highly selling. But despite being well developed, quality control is not there in both Tata & JLR which Tata really needs to work upon as it a waste of all the hard work. Even brands like Maruti & Renault/Nissan/Fiat have revolutionary QC even if their products aren't that well designed.

Electrification of vehicles are a great opportunity. It can result in better quality and reliability because of fewer mechanical components. JLR is going ahead with full fledged electrification in coming years. That should help improve its reputation.

Tata cars are a bunch of mechanics running local workshop who make cars ....
The acquisition of another car maker who had quality issues...it's like meeting a twin!
Tata cars have improved a lot (largely due to off-the-self available technologies sold by others) but the basic dna of a bunch of mechanics tinkering a car and selling it is still seen (2021 dec)
There are actual car makers and then there is a car-like makers like Tata cars!

acquiring jlr was an emotional decision for ratan tata same as building the most cheapest car .. and its because of tcs huge profits that has made the acquisition and bailing out for losses , feasible for tata. indeed it had helped in revamping the entire lineup and the new ones are doing great in terms of sales but how reliable these products are only time will tell..

Both Jaguar and Land Rover are at the bottom of both sales numbers and reliability chart when it comes to luxury brands here in North America which is the biggest market for high end cars and SUVs. In last 18 years of my stay here I do not know of a single friend or relative who has invested in these vehicles. On the other hand a number of my friends including myself own Lexus, MB, Audi, Acura or BMW vehicles and the single most important reason for that is the poor reliability of these vehicles. These are depreciation disasters. Unfortunately in Indian market a lot of folks buy these unaware about their poor record in the overseas markets. I wish JLR work on their vehicles reliability but it is too late now...
