Mom's Poached Short Ribs - Made from Scratch

  • This is my mom's short ribs recipe. The ingredients add a caramelized flavor that is very savory and yet a pinch of sweet.
    Mom's Poached Pork Short Ribs
    Ingredients
    1 pound short ribs
    1 small red onion (or half a large onion)
    4 tablespoons fish sauce
    4 tablespoons molasses
    1 tablespoon sugar
    2.5 cups water
    pepper to taste
    1) Pour 1.5 cups of water in a large pot and place on high heat.
    2) Add the short ribs to the pot. Cover the pot and boil the short ribs until done.
    3) Chop one onion into fine pieces and set aside.
    4) Drain the ribs and rinse. Put the ribs back into the pot and put it back on the stove at high heat.
    5) Add the onion to the pot along with 4 tablespoons of fish sauce, four tablespoons of molasses, one tablespoon of sugar, about a cup of water and pepper to taste. Stir until incorporated.
    6) Bring the pot to a boil, then lower the heat to simmer at medium for another 30 minutes.
    7) Serve on rice with vegetables of your choosing.
