  • What an awesome idea but will it last? The Streetmaster GPC and DSS have both been discontinued however they, in my opinion, where not nearly as desirable as a rosewood and spruce 000 for $2k! What do you think?

You can put in an LR Baggs Anthem for great sound rather than deal with a built-in cheap piezo. The only downside to this is there is no battery box built in to use for this so you will have to rely on an internal battery bag. I wanted a Taylor 414 but I think this sounds better, is cheaper, and looks better. Plus I can add a high-quality pickup instead of being stuck with the Taylor ES2 system. I was initially enamored with the SC-13e but this is just so much better at not much more money.

Martin is always changing up their lineup. I have three, an HD-28V, D-18E Retro, and an OM-18 Authentic 1933, which have been discontinued. I bought them all in the past 10 years. There seems to be a lot of interest in smaller body guitars, so it could be a hot guitar for the price.

I bought one last week (08/07/2022) and have been playing it since. I think this is a GREAT guitar, especially with these specs and at this price point. It has a way to go before it's in the conversation with my OOO-15 sm, but I'm really liking it so far. I'm not a big fan of the whole "relic" thing, but with this wood set on a OOO Martin for 2K, it was the StreetMaster or nothing, so here we go...

Congrats! What’s your take on the roasted top? Does it make a big difference or just a minor change in tone?

@@hoffguitars479 The jury's still out on the guitar overall. I bought it mainly for the VTS Adirondack top but I think it's gonna be a while until I warm up to it. Right now it sounds a bit brittle...

@@hoffguitars479 After playing the snot out of it for a couple months, I find it has opened up and "warmed" really nicely. It's not nearly as harsh as when I first got it. I would expect this result over a long period, but the fact that it happened rather quickly MAY have to do with the torrification? Not sure, but I really like playing this guitar now...

I have a D18 satin and I’m a fan. As far as the reliced look no problem for me I like it and at the very least it’s a conversation starter.
I bought one used I will see how I like it over the coming weeks but I think I’ll enjoy it a lot

Why are the opinions of this guitar so controversial across the forums? Some folks love and some say they do not like it at all, not just the look but the sound, especially compared to 000-15m. I tried both 000-15m and 000-16sm in store, and 000-15m sounded great, but I wished more overtones, 000-15m had to few, much more fundementals and little overtones. I just got pulled to 000-16sm as a magnet, even compared it to Taylors of American Dream series, 000-18 Martin, it did not do it to me. So I got the 000-16sm. But it still puzzles me why opinions about this guitars are kind of split into two camps - lovers and haters.

Interesting point on how they maybe testing this one out to see how they sell before they make them in dreadnought. Hope your channel takes off so you can afford one.

Played one last week, I was shocked at the tone, Pleasantly. I thought it blue away the 15’s by a country mile. I mean head and shoulders better. Shocked
    IMHO

I bought one of those guitars with aged wood. Died a sudden death after a few years.

@@hoffguitars479 I bought it on impulse in NZ in 1980 because it was so god damn gorgeous. It was a special vintage model dreadnought made by a Japanese company that had just bought the complete Washburn workshop and shipped it out to Japan after it had been impounded for I think 50 years or maybe longer. From what I heard Washburn had been put out of business by Martin. Any way to cut to the chase the guitar really looked like a vintage model. The sides and back were beautiful flamed Ovankol and the top was of treated spruce to make it look aged. I loved it at first sight and when I played it the projection and timbre was simply superb. Particularly the bass strings. However every time I put a new set of strings it seemed to loose its resonance rather than improve it. After a few years the bottom E had lost its volume. So I took it to a luthier and he told me that the top had been treated with carbon graphite by rubbing it into the wood. This apparently caused the wood to age to far and had lost its rigidity. So I sold it and he made me a new one in 1984. This was also Ovankol sides and back except its a jumbo 12 string! It is still improving every time I renew the strings. Most beautiful guitar in the world. You can see it on my yt channel Zen and the Art of 12 String Maintenance. You're welcome!

The DSS didn’t sound that great. The D-15 however does sound much better. I owned the 000-15 Streetmaster and it is a great guitar.

I played a couple at the big box store recently...sounds pretty much like other 000, with adi tops, they were fairly loud, but as some have said here, a bit glassy, although that may change by example. I also have the older 000-15 Special Ed./ spruce and mahogany and they sounded very close. With the 16 being a tad louder ...I still believe the 000-15 SM/ M's produce and have that sweeter chime and hog clarity that the single tone bar and thin top produces this clean ring. Icing on the cake is they record so, so sweet! But it's all subjective, but my 000-15m Streetmaster is my fave of my 6 acoustics and I have a Santa Cruz 000/1929 as well, which is fantastic, but love the Martin 's tone.

I bet they'll sell like crazy. $2000 for a guitar with specs like these? Adirondack, vts top..., are you kidding me? Try to find an American branded guitar with specs like these and compare the prices. These will sell. Hell, I'd even buy one today if I had the money.

I would probably agree now that yes they will sell quite a few but spec hunting is a really bad way to choose a guitar so I hope that’s not the only reason people buy them.

@@hoffguitars479 : From what I heard so far the playability of the guitar is as good as any other Martin and so is the build quality. It’s a matter of taste when it comes to looks. The Streetmaster treatment seems to be a love it or hate it thing. Given the popularity of the 000-15m Streetmaster I think Martin has a winner. 😊
