Inspired by the 1988 classic “Red Storm Rising”, command a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent “mutually assured destruction” when the Cold War gets hot and WWIII begins.
You will be tasked with intercepting convoys, amphibious landings, insertion missions and battling it out with enemy warships, submarines and aircraft. Thankfully, an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles and the occasional SEAL team are on board to keep the Iron Curtain at bay. - Hry
Wolfpack, you actually have the Aegis system that will automatically engage hostile missiles in the air, its that small button with a 20 next to it, it has a total of 20 missiles and is almost a guaranteed hit making it the most reliable system for shooting down missiles since your own can be a bit janky at times
Cool! I didn't know they were able to incorporate that with the mod. Good to know!
I was coming to tell Wolfpack that but you beat me to it😅😅
Haha I was like wondering why he’s tempting fate by hoping the CIWS gets the missiles.
Is there a link to this mod?
THat is not the "Aegis", that is just his Rolling Airframe Missle launcher, but ye, he could have used that too
When I was in the Navy I was a FC2 and worked on the CIWS. The thing I hate about video games, and movies, is that the weapon is always represented horribly. It's not a scatter gun, it's a very accurate weapon that even tracks its own bullets to correct the aim.
And yet I still fear the day I'd ever have to hope CWIS works #hardkillisalie 😜
@HVAC Quality Assurance My AK has a really loud muzzle brake and I shoot it at an indoor range sometimes. Is it kinda like that?
@@CrookedSmirk Try an MG42 with a really really loud muzzle brake. Might be closer.
@@CrookedSmirkyou can hear the C-RAM from about 3 miles away, standing right next to it is louder than a fighter jet taking off.

Wolfy, you haven't seen anything until you've seen a Tico or a Sprucan in real life. I had the privilege of serving on both a Spruance and a Ticonderoga, well 2 Ticos, and was qualified OOD underway on CG55. (DD970, CG55, and CG61). While the guns are fun, they should be a second to last resort. Harpoons are your friend, kind of. If the ones in game are like their real life counterpart don't fire them anywhere in the direction of a friendly or neutral. You also have TASMs (Tomahawk Anti Ship Missile), use them. While the SM2 is capable of destroying ships, it's primarily a SAM use them as such. If you're engaging with CWIS, the incoming contact is TOO CLOSE and you're doing something wrong and will likely die soon.
MOSKVA BE LIKE, WHAT IS ENGAGED CWIS?
Great response.
My feelings exactly.
Hopefully the Ticos were nicer back then, I keep having to cover down for your sister ship lol
CG-57 Lake Champlain, DD-964, 965, & 966. GSM1(PJ/SW) lol ya, fun times were had by all. :-)
Imagine being the Soviet Naval Command and finding out that an entire landing fleet got sunk within minutes by a single Missile Cruiser... and then finding out that the only damage that cruiser sustained was from a Poti's dual cannon fire as it tried to flee.
Wolfpack doesn't want the Ukranians to have all the fun. Must be the Black Sea Fleet he's engaging ;P
The poti was the hero of the battle afterall
Imagine living in a video game....
@@kashmirgoat didnt know losing was fun
You would have to imagine being the "soviet Naval Command in a VIDEO GAME" to find out that your video game AI fleet was defeated by a video game Tico in easy mode!
never thought id see the day you'd play above the waves
"What is that glowy thing up above?"
You clearly need to watch Wolfpack's playlist of War on the Sea from both the US & IJN side.

I think he just meant Cold Waters. I came about it the opposite direction. Started with WotS and moved to Cold Waters.
You know those 57mm guns they spammed you with can go straight through a Tico's hull and potentially into the missile cells, right? That'd have been a rather undignified way to get sunk...:P
Given the number of AK-725s those Ugras carry, I would not risk a gun engagement with them.
In vanilla Cold Waters, I once surfaced a Skipjack a few thousand yards away from one, and suddenly noticed a bright orange spot on the horizon. "Hmm, I wonder what that is"
>Press F2 to focus on the Ugra
>BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM
>Press F1
>My submarine has disappeared under a shower of shell splashes.
>Immediately crash dive. I somehow only get away with a few percentage points of damage.
I would have loved that.
that ship should never have been allowed within range…the 5” guns should have taken it out or at least a missile, there’s no excuse for that small ship getting so close at all
You sure about that? Im pretty sure the cells are armored to some extent, and it shouldnt take that much to stop a 57mm gun.
That little patrol boat charging you down and attacking with his hedgehog depth charge launcher was badass. I guess you damaged the launchers with shellfire and he had to repair them before he could fire, which is pretty cool.
If the other escorts had attacked you with the same ferocity (instead of running) they might have overwhelmed you.

Awesome book, Amazon has it in a graphic novel ( Hardback ) if you want a copy 👍🇺🇲
When I was going through my navy "A" school in Dam Neck, Virginia, there was a 5" gun set up. As far as I know, it was the only live fire range on the Atlantic. I remember seeing it being fired one day. I could see the shells leaving the barrel and streaking towards the horizon. I could not see any splashes. They were probably inert to begin with or they were just landing too far away to make out. IIRC, the horizon is 12 miles away.
I know the 76mm on the Perry frigates was anti-air only. In the Med there was a gigantic bullseye on the side of a slanted mountain we were shooting at, testing its surface capabilities. That thing fired fast for as big as it was.
Yes the horizon is approximately 12 miles. My 'A' school was in Pensacola lol.
i too went to a school in dam neck.... os
Distance to horizon depends on the observers height above see level, and for a 6ft person stood on a beach that's only about 3miles/4 km.
From the deck of a ship that distance is going to be higher and even more so if you're looking out from a tower.
Dam Neck Either IS or OS?
I just LOVE how you are getting your ass reamed by that small, half-dead torpedo boat. Talk about a david and goliath situation. Lesson in humility, delivered.
I really miss friendly ships or friendly subs in the missions. The player is always alone...
And the "enemy" is always dumb, because fuck satellite recon and a US ship entering Bosporus unnoticed. 😂
13:50 -- a 5" shell kill-steals from the missile, which bounces the debris (i.e. blows off the top half of the ship as debris) muttering "destroy them as they die".
Nice to see you try those surface ships out. They are a lot of fun. A few things I noticed tho:
-You fired a lot of missiles in „anti missile“ mode which is the standard mode when you reload them. So to ripple fire the sm 2s against ships use r to reload and then 1 twice to switch to anti ship mode and only then fire.
-you only used CIWIS against missiles. This does work if there are only a few coming in but it is very dangerous. You should probably (since you have a lot of them and you can fire them without cool-down due to the VLS) use the sm2s against incoming missiles and only use ciwis for any that the missiles fail to intercept (you also have a secondary SAM system which you can enable by clicking on that small missile symbol in your hud - this will intercept some enemy missiles automatically)
Also don’t forget about the Harpoons 😉
Great video I have to say tho - just wanted to give those tips which I learned playing around with the ships. Using all this you can even win against multiple Kirovs in the Late Ticonderoga with VLS (because the AI is not that good at using the missiles).
How do you deal with the lack of warhead in the RIM-66 missiles against enemy ships? That is without editing their warhead in the config.
@@DerLoladin The RIM-66s aren't meant to be used against ships, that's a secondary function so of course they have limited effectiveness in that role.
If you want to destroy enemy ships with NATO ships then your best bet is to use your guns, Ticonderoga especially as its twin 5" guns are very effective.
@@DerLoladin honestly you dont but you do have the 8 harpoons which can deal with a lot. focus on combatants first. and then just spam the sm2s(rim66) missiles after that. its not good to close within gun range.
@@DerLoladin like the others said harpoons are the main anti shipping weapons - might be a good idea to send a few sm-2s with them so they get intercepted instead of the harpoons. Generally a lot of sm-2s will also do the trick (you do get a lot of them with the Ticonderoga after all). Wouldn’t use guns tho unless you are really low on missiles.
@@billmuller6133 Its unfortunate that the SM-2s are so much faster than the Harpoons and you get so few of the Harpoons as well. I've tried playing an Oliver-Hazard Perry class in the 2000 Campaign and fighting surface vessels feels utterly impossible with the lack of Anti-Ship capabilties, except for the 8 Harpoons.
Maybe Surface ships just aren't for me or I need to play Soviets.
Awesome!
Love this new style.
Thanks very much, Wolfpack.
Glad you like it!
Definitely keep some backup saves at various parts or avoid literally cold waters entirely. Cold Waters isn't exactly meant for surface ships and I know I've lost a Kirov campaign because I ended up in a fight in the Barents Sea. Tried reloading five times or so but every single time it'd try starting me out on ice.
That was pretty awesome, I had no idea dotmod/Cold Waters could do surface combat at all. Thanks for showcasing this, definitely want more!
Disregarding small boats is done at your peril. Everything Soviet had a nasty bite seeing as their raison d'etre was missile and gun overkill. It's a shame you couldn't take along a couple of Arleigh Burke's with you. I shall be looking forward to more of this most definitely.
Wolfpack just for future reference when you fire the RIM 2 missiles you have to set each middle to anti ship every missile. It does not stay on the same mode you had it on with the last missile. It is always anti missile mode when you reload and won’t go for ships. It’s annoying but it has to be changed with every missile you fire.
This makes a change from below the waves, but I like it
Please continue this surface ship series! I love this type of combat!
14:06 is how playing Battleship feels like, when your opponent keeps missing your boats by 1 block.
Having served on a Ticonderoga class cruiser, I love this video. I was one of the guys who ran the 5 inch guns. Best time of my life.
I'm so fascinated on your realistic Naval content especially the tactics of the old but Gold Iowa class battleship vs the Soviet battle group thank you for making these videos
FYI:
RIM-66 = Ramp launched Intercept Missile, are anti-air, anti-missile weapons primarly and anti-ship second. Too tiny warhead.
Main anti-ship weapons of a TICO are :
RGM-84 harpoon (Ramp Guided Missile) not UGM (Underwater = launched from a submarine)
TASM = Tomahawk Anti Ship Missile (Inertial with radar terminal guidance)
TLAM = Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (inertial/GPS or TERCOM with TV, laser or IR terminal guidance)
Mk 46 torps.
RUM-139 = Ramp Underwater Missile, an ASW weapon aka to kill a submarine.
Hey so actual VLS tech here, the “R” in RIM, RGM,etc stands for “surface launched” not Ramp. So RIM would be “Surface launched, Intercept type, Missile”. And RGM would “Surface launched, Guidance type, missile”
@@NitroxNcrocz Actually "R" means ship launch, i looked it up in the 1963 tri-service designation system.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1963_United_States_Tri-Service_rocket_and_guided_missile_designation_system
But because "R" is used instead of "S" for ship, i assumed it refered to the use of twin arm launcher and inclined canisters launcher early on, before the widespread use of VLS.
A bit of an artistic licence i agree.
Don't know if they have two meanings, but missile designations (AGM, UGM, RGM) indicate their launch platform, target, and guidance, AGM means air-ground guided missile, UGM means universal/multi-platform-ground guided missile, and AIM means Air-Intercept-aerial guided missile, per the 1963 Tri-Service Rocket and Guided Missile Designation System.
Whoa! Wolfpack surface combat!? You never disappoint.
Found this highly entertaining and enjoyed the sound effects. That lil patrol went down fighting 😂
it's pretty cool to see. Awesome job like always Wolfpack

12:50 Wolfpack learns why you mind your distance at all times in surface warfare
Love this definitely would love to see more naval surface series, battle of Leyte Gulf ( if Halsey doesn't chase the Japanese carrier deception to the north maybe the U.S. Navy wins WWII in that battle) or Iowa/ Montana vs yamato, Iowa vs Bismarck etc.
Sweet video! I'm a bit of a bigger fan of watching from the surface vessel's POV than submarines, so I hope you continue to play with surface ships.
Best mod showcase yet! Looks amazing!
Thanks Wolfpack! Do enjoy the surface combat (as well as subs) also like the ASW as well.
Great video!!! Gotta have more of this surface content!
German Trawler: MOM! DAD! PLEASE STOP FIGHTING 😅
Harpoon is an anti-ship missile and is the primary anti-ship weapon available on the AEGIS platform. SM-2's are primarily anti-air and a backup for anti-surface. The VLS has the capability (don't know about your game) to fit a quad pack of ESSM missile in a VLS Cell which are primarily used for close in anti-air targets (incoming missile). This could become interesting if the game gives you the ability to load out your VLS with some ESSM's and you used the missiles as they were intended.
I don't know if this Dotmod variant has Tomahawk, but that would do some serious damage to a surface ship too.
I cant wait to see more of these surface warfare videos. This is dope
Loving these surface battles! Thanks!!
Thanks for watching!
Man, it's a shame there aren't enough games that allow you to play a modern warship like the Ticonderoga or the Kirov-class BCs. You should totally do a Ticonderoga/Arleigh Burke fleet against a Kirov BC or a Kiev BC and escorts.
How fun is this! Loved it wolf!!!
Love this video. Maybe start a new series on this mod using the ship like this video
Really love this! Please keep more coming
Great video. Looking forward to more surface combat episodes on the channel.
Don't forget to yell, "Vampire!" when your radar picks up incoming missiles. 👀
Thoroughly enjoyed that ,more please !

Great stuff! Do more surface stuff! At least with this you are in real danger of being hit unlike the sub play. Is there a surface campaign?
love channel content!
I'm interested in seeing the Cruiser vs submarines.
Will you also be trying out the Sea Wolf in a few scenarios?
Hey Wolfpack, yes do more of these. This is pretty cool! You planning on doing anymore U-boat campaign anytime in the future?
Looks good. Nice!
Thanks!
Loved this! Can’t wait for sea power!
GOD DAMN this mod is amazing!! would love a fully fledged game like this!
I've always loved the Ticonderoga class cruisers. There isn't a lot of media or content in other games that involve them ether.
This is awesome. Let's see what some Oliver Hazard Perry can do with their backs to the wall against insurmountable odds
Dude, if this had player v player muliplayer, it would be so fun, 3v3 ships or subs
I absolutely love this. I hope Dot Mod continues to update and improve this section of the game because it's incredible and I wish there was more modern ship warfare games
Dot is currently working on sea power, a full-fleet modern naval warfare game by the devs of CW
Gotta watch out for that cavitation, the enemy fleet might realize you're there
Jeez! That Ugra was banging away at you like he bought the game!
Nice! Very impressive mod too

im super excited for sea power! hope we get a date soon
16:50 This is that point in any Hollywood bar fight scene where the bad guys are all over the floor, and that one guy comes into the room "I can take him!"
Great show ☺️
My good man, what are your thoughts on doing a mission featuring an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate? I would love to see that!
This was fun! looking forward to more
Thanks!
Wow!! Bunker hill. I served on board her in the mid 90’s when she was home ported in Yokosuka Japan.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
Since Cold Waters wasn't optimized for surface combat, you have to fire your SM-2 to go active BEFORE the actually reach the target. This is difficult for enemy missile intercept since you have to guess where the enemy missile will be relative to your own weapon prior to it going active (or in missile speak, pitbull).
Yup surface looks fun more please
Cool series!!!!
Would love to see a series!
I’d heard of this game before, this guarantees that I’ll be getting it!!
I was stationed on the USS Hue City CG 66. It was the same platform.

"What the heck, why not". Captain, I do believe when you will be relieved. Because what the heck, why not.
Hope you like the surface ships! Good practice for Sea Power
They are fun! Will be doing more for sure
@@Wolfpack345 make sure to try the Arleigh Burke class
The crew on the germen trawler were absolutely sitting back and eating popcorn.
Reminds me of one of my most favorite games, Harpoon by Three-Sixty Pacific Software from 1989, just not on such a 3D visual level.
Every soviet cold war era ship was armed to the teeth with guns to the max if we had a 5 in gun they had multiple barreled equal or usually higher caliber. Surface gun battles were last thing you wanted to do against them. Harpoon was best antiship weapon against a ship unless your platform had tomahawks & as several have noted sm2 had no where the same punch vs a ship. Love this series Keep em coming Wolfpack345!!!
Wolfpack style, so entertaining
I would like to see you do an entire Ticonderoga campaign.
Hey I've played the epic mod and the interface is basically the same. Here's some tips:
1. you can use the number keys (1-3) to change the respective settings on the selected tube. Some missiles, like the SAM2, are unfortunately not in ship mode by default so many were launched in anti-missile mode. That said I have no idea what the second setting is (1 or 2 hmmm).
2. There is a keybind for chaff, delete I think, as to save you the time to click the button.
3. You have an automatic anti-missile system you can enable via the missile button under 'RIM-66M-5', with that said the CIWS is pretty reliable, especially when broadsiding.
One thing I might suggest is that you give your missiles a little more homing time as they CAN (miss or) circle back after you (its an awkward way to go :p).
Oh, definitely try the Kirov, most fun I've had with the mod. Very versatile and terrifying ship.
Awesome looking game! I've been looking for a decent replacement for Jane's FC for a long time now and this looks like it.
But I've never heard of anyone blowing an airborne helo out of the water though.
The ship I'm stationed on is a Tico. Thr Navy is now getting rid of these ships mine was one that survived the cut, so far at least.
