PORTRAIT OF A LONG BARROW: Belas Knap Severn-Cotswold Tomb (no talking)

  • A short meditational portrait of Belas Knap set to music with no voice over or narrative.
This is a 4K remaster of an earlier version originally published in October 2018.
Belas Knap Long Barrow, is near Winchcombe in Gloucestershire. The barrow was probably constructed around 3000 BC and was used for successive burials over a period of years until eventually the burial chambers were deliberately blocked.
Opinion differs as to the reason for the false portal. It may have been to deter robbers, although little in the way of value has been found in undisturbed tomb chambers. Alternatively, it could be that the false entrance functioned as a ‘spirit door’, intended to allow the dead to come and go and partake of offerings brought to the tomb by their descendants.
    Production: MICHAEL BOTT
Music: "Prelude" by This Patch of Sky from the Artlist music library.

So beautiful! Watching the flowers and waving grasses, the crescendo as the stone walls framed the horizon, I felt a strange bond with the monument which I can't explain! An elegiac and sensitive film, and a brave one without words.Thank you for making this.

And here I go thinking this is some of that stock footage you said you were going to go out and gather on last weeks Q&A. But alas I read the description.
Kidding, very beautiful and I hope to one day to get some of my own footage here in the States of some Pre-Colombian monuments and henges most people aren't aware North America even had. Sad 😞

Kinda looks like a certain part of the female body, maybe they saw putting a body in there for burial as returning the person to Mother Earth's womb.

Pardon my ancient German/Nordic, but *FUCK* that was brilliant! And I don't mean brilliant in the way the Brits use the word, much like Americans overuse *_awesome_* and such. No, this was inspired, evocative, and ineffably poignant, delivered to the viewer without comment as none was necessary. And in 4k no less. Outstanding! If this is any hint at all of what Standing With Stones 2 will be like...oh my...

So that’s a barrow! My only other experience of this word is in Lord of the Rings when hobbits get trapped in a barrow and I never had a clue what was being discussed. That and wheelbarrow. This word and structure doesn’t exist in the heartland of North America
