      Part of the problem is that EA has been in negotiations for 2 years over the FIFA license and it looks like they'll loose it. Battlefield franchise was pivoted to be a battle royal for monetization to make up shortfalls. Then when they realized that wasn't going to work they back tracked 50%. We are part way between full skin monetization and a full battle royal, which no one but EA wants. Why they dont make a new IP and let battlefield be battlefield is lost on me.

      @birdbrid9391 Před 2 lety +25

      not even. this is a bad game for monetization, simply because you can't extract microtransactions out of a non-existing playerbase. the game needs to be good at a base level, so that people play at all, and so that people can get comfortable with the idea of spending even more money on it

    • @mcgmgc
      @mcgmgc Před 2 lety +14

      That doesn';t really work out in the end tho, that';s why BFV was scrapped. No playerbase long term (aka live service) = no money. Which means this game will be abandoned like BFV except it will be even worse because this game on Steam already has close to the same playercounts as BFV, pathetic. At least BFV has core Battlefield features in it, this game doesn't.

    • @Fabianthehunter

      @@mcgmgc Didn't say it would work ;). Just that it's all built and prepared for it. No long term playerbase? There is a easy fix for it.
      1. reduce content on release
      2. put in some new guns/maps every 3->4 months
      4.combine it with paid battlepass for new fancy skins and stickers for the tanks/jets etc.. Or more likely new sentences for the specialists for the start/end

    • @mcgmgc
      @mcgmgc Před 2 lety +22

      @@Fabianthehunter I honestly believe this game won't be saved. The core is terrible. The map design alone makes it so even if they magically fixed everything tomorrow, the maps would still keep the game at a very low rating.
      BF4 was atrociously bad at launch, pretty much unplayable but the core was good, it just needed fixing.
      This game tho? It has nothing. It's missing basic features things like ECM, tv missile, aps, reactive, thermal, sraw. It just has nothing enjoyable. I don't know of a single person who doesn't enjoy practicing tv missiles, as an example. There is no content.

When every single publisher is letting this stuff happen, you start to notice that lauching a game on that state means their putting less money on the game already knowing people will pre-order. They're making their money and getting out before the launch even happens, i don't know why people still pre-order games.

  • @linkkicksu
    @linkkicksu Před 2 lety +27

    "I have absolutely no idea what to do in this situation" is something I started feeling in BF4 and it never went away.
    BF3 was the last BF game with a real feeling of map flow and order, while BF4 and onwards has had this obsession with massive maps with no cover like Golmud Railway or Sinai Desert or Panzerstorm where infantry is a shitshow.
    BF3 had this feeling of lanes, where you could roughly estimate where enemies were coming from and that's why flanks and surprise flag takes were so effective.
    While there were still good maps in BF4, from that point onwards the games just feel like an ants nest where there are enemies at random places on the map at all times, running in all directions, firing at other random places on the map because there's no cover.

    • @konnigkratz
      @konnigkratz Před 2 lety +4

      This, this so much. So much of this discussion has people talking about BF4 in the same breath as 3, when actually some of the rot set in then as well - some of the maps as you say are just uncomfortable. What do you do? Oh, you didn't manage to get a vehicle? Be fodder. Die, and die a lot. You had people camping on rooftops in BF3, but nowhere near the level of 4 - so many of the buildings in 4 had flat roofs deliberately to allow for spawn beacons and sniping on them, which sure is fun for the snipers but in maps with little cover you are just fodder.
      Oh and the 25mm scout choppers like in this video where you have a nimble, hovering daemon that is easy to avoid return fire with, with splash damage? Good luck!

    • @timlolxP
      @timlolxP Před 2 lety +11

      As far as i know BF3 was the last game where maps were designed by the level designer first (layout, objectives, lanes etc.) and then the art team had to make it look good.
      In BF4 and onwoard it changed the other way around, the designers/art team would came up with a map wich looked cool as fuck and then the level designers had to make the map work.
      It is simple to see wich is working better and thats why you have the feeling in BF4 and onwoards wich you have described perfectly. Not to say that BF4 BF1 and BF5 hadnt good maps but so many no cover shit shows with bad flow.

    Enders, trust me Dice will listen to what you say but do the opposite! Because they don't want to increase the gap between good players and bad ones, rather simply make everyone equally bad. They probably don't want to create an SBMM system, but they also don't want pro players like you to dominate the game. They thought making vehicles so overly strong that noobs also will have a chance to have fun. However, they created another kind of domination (vehicles against infantry), and most noobs players get farmed even more. Vehicle play is a unique and fun part of this game and it is a delicious side dish, but they don't understand it can not be tolerated by most players when vehicle play became the main course. So don't expect this game to become what you pictured one day as the developers can fix bugs but they can not fix management's broken brains.

    Interesting what you say about decision making. I only started playing BF games with 5. I wanted to become a better infantry player, increase my KDR, etc. I felt like playing the game helped me become better. As well as watching better players. Sometimes if I was on a squad with a really good player I'd follow them around with medkids and learn the maps and flow much better than running around on my own. The game was kind of punishing, but you'd die, learn not to do that again and make a different decision the next time around. It was really gratifying to see my name move towards the top of the scoreboard on average over the time I played that game.
    In 2042, I don't feel like I'm getting better at games by playing it. Oftentimes it's the middle of a match and I don't know what to do or where to go, or I'm left feeling like I couldn't have prevented my death by making a different better decision. Sometimes as an infantry player you just have to run through an open area, and you're probably gonna get rocketed but there's just no alternative to getting back in the fight. In BF5 open areas had high grass or burnt out tanks or some way to push through safely.

    Hot take, 1 year extra wouldn't have been enough. BF needs a new engine, Unreal Tech is accomplishing everything Frostbite is on the player count front with higher graphic fidelity and more baked in features. Frostbite 3 isn't any different from Frostbite 2. It's frame work is from a time in which Core Extreme CPU's only had 6 cores. Now we've got Intel CPU's with 10 cores and AMD 12 cores and they're not being utilized to run the game. It's similar to the issues you see in Arma, but not as severe. Arma works fine with a few units and players, but as soon as you hit the 100+ mark, it completely shits the bed.
    DICE and EA need to take a serious look at an engine overhaul similarly as to what they did with BF3. BF4 onward has been an outright failure, and I would dare say that 2042 is in a better state than BF4 will ever be in terms of gameplay. Great video and you're a damn good player. I always find it funny when people talk about Battlefield 3 positively. I've been playing since BF Vietnam, and I've never been as excited for a game as I was for Battlefield 3. BF3 was a huge downgrade in ever single way except for the engine itself. All the teamplay elements were nerfed (commander, squad size, squad orders, Battlelog bs), the maps were mostly linear, no mod support (Understandable, but BF2 had a HUGE mod scene) and lastly, the game being designed for console brought the overall scope down (destruction nerf) . BF4 I think fixed a lot of the issues though.

    The devs liked BRs with lots of players and big maps but hate that they suck and die in the first 5 minutes so they thought they can make their own version of it. They didn't stop to think why the BRs work with big maps and 100+ players and why a game like BF won't.

    It’s also so weird how certain guns have recoil and feel like guns and others just feel like you’re out of ammo and not even shooting at all. Case and point, the M1 garand in portal. Use that and then switch to the 1911. You’ll feel the difference instantly.

    Talking specifically about making the movement of infantry more advanced and vehicles require a brain to use, I 100% agree. In BFV you could out move and circle around an entire objective and clear it with enough skill. In 2042 you’re shoehorned into played 1 of 2 “specialists” that have a monopoly on being able to get places quickly. But that monopoly doesn’t mean shit when everyone can call in vehicles that are downright unstoppable unless you happen to have 3-4 people running some kinda anti armor capabilities. BF 2042 is like Campbells chicken soup that got dumped through a strainer and then served as just room temp broth.

    I don’t feel the 128 player work really was that much work; the problem was that they didn’t seem to do any in depth testing with 128 players. The balance of the game is all off - as you said the vehicles are ridiculously overpowered

    based on every design decisions they've made, this game was first intended to be some sort of a battle royale game, but they suddenly remembered that this game was titled "BATTLEFIELD", so they implemented all those shits in the multiplayer to get the game ready for release on deadline, 128 players, maps size, specialists, unrestricted weapon/loadout options, plus system, down mechanic, end-of-round specialists screen, the lack of scoreboards, the lack of the ability to switch between squads, the lack of server browser or the ability to uncheck maps that you don't want to play... they all make sense in a battle royale's context
