Hi Luke. Loving the videos and your ideas for cutting the cost of terrain building. Regarding what you say about the bubbles in resin, I have a set of vacuum kitchen containers that come with a little vac pump. I bought the set from Betterware for about 8 quid in their sale a couple of years ago. The containers are relatively small so no good for big pieces but they are really effective at getting rid of those pesky bubbles.
I use fibre glass resin and the hardener on it's own fiver for big tub it it does turn pinky with the red hardener but adding a bit dark blue green paint works perfect it last ages iv had mine couple year it's a yellow tin get it in halfords or auto save any car auto parts works great kn silicone moulds too iv mad resin engine blocks and bucket seats etc the detailing it picks up everything
I've heard of people using a blowtorch for larger scale resin, to help get the bubbles out. Wonder what it is like using those little blowtorch lighters for such a smaller scale to help those bubbles release.
You need a leaf shaker! Grab yourself a plastic jar of crushed red chili peppers when you are at the store. The kind of pepper seeds pizza shops have. The jar will have 5 to 7 holes in it that are just right for sprinkling those leave you make. :) EDIT: Use a hair dryer, or heat gun paint stripper to work the bubbles out. Or even your creme brulee gun.
I have a 1/350 scale model of the German Battleship Bismarck. I would like to find out about what to use and how tho paint an ocean scene showing it underway?
Hello. Do you think the pound resin will be good for the secret wood type project? And do you think it will go well with colouring and maybe some glow powder in as well?
I see in the store several versions of the pound shop stuff. There are some that are slower curing and can give more play time. Is this useful to get rid of the bubbles? Or should I just extend the time by adding more acetone? I would get the trade stuff but I only need to do a little bit and don't see getting a huge tin. I also want to ask if you wanted to tinted it a little so it looks like a natural lake water that is not muddy/murky but still darker than clear, what would you use?
Nice iv bin looking for a cheap water effect for my armies on parade swamp board. The cheap stuff should look great for the stagnant pools of filth that my nurglings will be sat on.
The Poundland resin is really a bonding resin and not a casting resin. For bonding that matters I use Gorilla Epoxy. For sealing the ends of boards that will be used outside and not seen, the Poundland stuff is a must at a quid.
HI Luke, just a thought - you can get 100% acetone from a chemists (I've picked some up from Asda pharmacy before) which might work better for thinning down the pound shop resin.
Hi Luke, do you know if you can mix paint with the poundshop resin to colour it? Just an aside, you do know that 2 part clear casting resin is super-ninja toxic, don't you! Please read the safety sheet and wear a mask / ventilate the room whilst using it!! My favourite problem from repeated inhalation is hearing damage!! Never heard of that before [sic]....
Hi Luke, just started my first project which will have a swamp in the centre. I've used expanded polystyrene for the build and was wondering if epoxy resin will dissolve it . If so what would be the best way to seal it before I pour it on ? I wouldn't want all my hard work to be destroyed. Cheers mate - keep up the good work !!
It's the poundland Tommy Walsh one. Haven't got one near me to check mate. Do you know which type it is ? Cheers for the quick response, much appreciated !!
May I please also ask you. If you mix in more acetone, after it cures, does the volume shrink? Like does the acetone evaporate and you are left with less than you poured? Also, how do you know at what point you have added the right amount of acetone? Let's say I do not make enough and underestimate how much I needed. If I mix up another batch and pour it on to the already hardened part (perhaps even deliberately because I wanted to add some fish mid water), will it look right or will the two parts look separate? Thank you.
Just thought I'd let you guys know I tried this today and yesterday and had massive yellowing with the pound land stuff, think they have changed it 😥, just getting some clear resin instead, but the video helped a lot 😊
Hey Luke love your content, great channel keep up the good work! I follow @blackforrestwoodco on insta. They do a lot of resin work and are quite informative. One of the things they do is chill their pieces once they're poured so that it cures slower giving the bubbles more time to escape hope this is of help. Also, regarding the homemade flock video, not sure if it would be cost effective but you can make your own fine saw dust with a palm sander which also captures it in a bag. I use one fairly regularly working as a carpenter and set the dust aside and mix with pva as a wood filler but am going to make some flock with it today! Cheers
Just a note. When using polyester resin with mekp hardener please use gloves and a mask. The hardener is an extreme skin irritant and has other health risks associated. Follow the manufacturers instructions. And do not use any flame heat source as it IS flammable. Nice effect though.
Great video I recently poured a lake an river and I want to use some effects to bring the river alive like white water breaking of the rocks and want to do ripples in the water I would appreciate if you would take a look at my video on my channel and give any suggestions you might have. Thanks, Mike.
My Dude - I know its old, and your retired and youll probably not see this, but Thanks man. Im using your tuts EVERY day.
Man - must have spent an hour in B&Ms trying to find that resin - only to come and check the video and it's Poundland! Need to listen more.
Thanks for this, after watching your demo, I successfully did my first water/river effects.
Nice vid Luke. Glad its here for me when I get that advanced to try rivers and ponds. Thanx. :-)
Great video, Luke! This was a really great test to show us viewers! :)

Thanks for the tip on the nail polish. Never thought of that.
RoseKindred I’m a chemist and me neither 😂

Great stuff, thanks for sharing
Hi Luke, great video. Can you colour these with paint or pigments?
+Lukes Aps Have you tried taking a heat gun (lightly) to the pound shop resin to evacuate the bubbles? Not sure how it would effect the plastic...
does pound shop equate to dollar store in the states?
Great video! Thanks very much!
Just found your Chanel. Loving your videos. Question: will any brand of polyester resin work? I'm in the US. Thank you for your videos.

Not into arts and crafts but you got a like for the acetone tip. Should help to waterproof the rivets on my old tin boat. : )
Loved this.
you can use a vacuum bath/chamber to take out the bubbles
how long does it take for the trade clear casting resin to set? thanks alot, really helpful tutorial
Great comparison bro' let, me know how the experiment turns out!!! Your Buddy Ol' Pal Mr Notorious B.I.L.L.

cfs clearcast resin does not yellow, ive used it many times for quite a few years....I dont use anything else now...

Where did you get that leaf cutter? What is the brand/model? Thank you.
Hi Luke can the pound shop epoxy resin be painted once dry cheers Lee
if u whip loads of air into it would it give an ice effect?
HI Luke, just a thought - you can get 100% acetone from a chemists (I've picked some up from Asda pharmacy before) which might work better for thinning down the pound shop resin.
@@GeekGamingScenics So was your nail polish remover not real acetone, but "substitute"?
@@MB-st7be most removers are only
@@drinkik Dunno where you live but in the UK most removers are 0% acetone, they use some kind of (less good) substitute
@@MB-st7be I also live in the UK and even the really cheap stuff has acetone in
Is it possible to put coloured dye into it?
Would white spirit's work to thin epoxy or is that a disaster waiting to happen?

Nice Vid Dude.
If you get air bubbles try a hair dryer should get them out if it's like the stuff here in the states
cool video
Nice comparison video Luke, is it just me or does the pound stuff stink to high heaven?
If you use some of the crackle paste on areas of a pond, could it look like cracked ice on thawing water?
The paste you suggested as a cheaper basing paint alternative, is white. Will that come out poorly?

Nice one mate !!
Can you pull this stuff around like the pound land stuff to create waves etc?
either way it looks like good stuff, they are local to me too so I can avoid the postage fees :-D
Hey man, just recently found your channel, you have any templates for those fountains?
Cheers man
Any yellowing yet?

Lukes Aps yeah I found that and was confused haha, I'm a complete novice with resin but it was a learning experience

Pound shop=dollar store here in America???
Yes.
could you use it to make ice
Lukes Aps good that means my space puppies will be on ice
"It's a pound. You get 24 grams." As an American drug dealer, I think you are living dangerously.
haha.
