- In this video, I will show you how to build the MOST EFFICIENT Kelp Farm in Minecraft 1.21! (Tutorial)
~ Smelting Kelp gets turned into dried kelp which is a food source & It's a great fuel source too!
~ When smelted and crafted into dried kelp blocks, kelp can be used to smelt items. One kelp block can smelt 20 items, so a single undried kelp ends up smelting 1.22 items. This makes kelp useful as a renewable fuel source
~ Smelting kelp also grants 0.1 experience. To put this into perspective, it would take about 3,060 smelted kelp to go from level 27 to level 30.
~ This Kelp Farm works on Java edition 1.21 and below. I haven't tested it on the Bedrock Edition yet.

Don’t forget to like, comment and subscribe :) ❤
I did
hm. I'm on the current snapshot and this will require some serious expansion for it to power my self sufficient dried kelp block crafter. Good tutorial tho :)
Wither skeleton farm, coal into a auto crafter, coal blocks into furnaces..
I’ve just built this farm, honest to god everyone! It is by far the most efficient losses farm I’ve ever built. Highly recommend it!
Thank you for the kind words!!
On god huh?
Great I just got kelp on my superflat will definitely build
easy, simple, cheap, but what I loved the most about this tutorial is how straightforward and clear you are with the instructions! It was so simple to understand, and so easy to expand upon. Will definitely use this again!
Thank you very much! You should see what video is dropping on Saturday you’ll be mind blown 🤯
Compact, infinitely scalable / stackable and does the job perfectly. Nice work!
Thank you very much!!
This seems pretty simple compared to previous designs I have used, so should be a quick build. Thank you
You’re so welcome! :)
Very good farm design, thank you!
Thank you! :)
Very Good farm thanks for Tutorial!
Thank you! I appreciate it 🙏🏻
Great video, ty for it
You’re so welcome!!
love this design my dude
Thank you!!!
Nice farm mate. I tested it on a creative world and was swearing at you to begin with as the water was all being turned into source blocks.... But I had the tick speed up to 3000 so that was growing the kelp faster than the observers could detect it so the kelp was growing to that level above before being chopped turning it into a source block so no waterflow. I turned the tick speed down to normal and it works great. Much better than those massive eyesores you normally see tutorials for. I dug it into the side of a hill with only one end poking out a bit.
😂😂 That’s awesome! I did the same thing testing it. Floating kelp on a 100k randomtickspeed lmao
🤣
Its working! Tysm i sub you 😊
Thank you. I appreciate it :)
Built your farm but made it 16 blocks instead of 8. then built on it with a whole farm on top which works well so your build is stackable.
Brilliant stuff! Glad you’re loving it!
This is easily the best Kelp farm for Java. I made mine 24 bays in length, for a total of 48 Kelp growing.. If you do add a Smoker, rather than using a lever to collect XP, break the Smoker after letting it run overnight. It'll award you all the accumulated XP in one go. Is definitely lossless. Substitute the Smoker with a Composter for a Bone Meal farm.
Because it's renewable and processes 20 items, a Dried Kelp Block is the best fuel in the game. For maximum returns, use Lava to smoke the Kelp instead of Dried Kelp Blocks.
Thank you very much, breaking the smoker is probably more easier lol
@@UForced You're most welcome. Thanks for such a great build.
@brett9308 thank you! Also I appreciate you going through the comments helping! 🙏🏻
@@UForced Oh, not a problem, dude, no worries at all. Always glad to help people out, sometimes small details shared can make all the difference. 😊
@brett9308 100% 🙏🏻🙌🏻
Thank you for this awesome build!
You’re so welcome. It’s expandable and scalable. Just in case you need more kelp! :)
You are so helpful and friendly. You just got yourself a follower.@@UForced
Thank you very much! Got a quick question for you.. what tutorial/farm would you like to see next??
@@UForced Did you already made a mob/XP Farm?
@@UForcedI just built the farm an it works splendidly!
Thank you for this, now i have a kelp farm, for my bone meal farm, for my wood farm, for my charcoal farm.
Nice one!
You're better off making Dried Kelp Blocks and letting go of Charcoal. Kelp is slow at Bone Meal and a Dried Kelp Block = 20 items vs Charcoal = 8 items.
works great thanks
Amazing stuff! Got any ideas what tutorial you’d like to see next?
i like the farm design and made mine 25 block long so its pretty nice
Thank you very much!🙏🏻
thankyou for the video
You’re so welcome!!
Had a question, realized the answer immediately, now here to just say I love this design because of how compact it is in comparison to another kelp farm I make. 10/10.
Im gonna use glass panes instead of fence gates because fence gates are more expensive on the server I play on. Should not harm the results.
You can water log glass panes cant you??
@@UForced Yup, just realizing this and the issues that come with it! 😬
Back to fence gates!
Something else I'm learning, apparently the only panes that got waterlogged were the middle two rows, the top and bottom were not at all.. strange, but fencegates all the way. XD
Yeah if they get water logged at the bottom 2 the hoppers won’t pick it up :/
@@DragonstoneWolfe That'd probably be because you placed the kelp at the bottom at the start before filling the water so it didn't grow into the water but the water flowed in there. The top it will never reach because of the observer catching it everytime it gets to layer 3. That leaves layers 2 and layer 3 as the only layers that have actively growing kelp in them so those will waterlog.
Thank you! Great tutorial!
I appreciate it! Thank you!
Thanks bro
You’re welcome!!
Thanks for the updated video, the old design had a bit of finicky item dropping back down. Just a thought experiment here, if the farm is too small with the smoker part, wouldn't it waste kelp blocks because each time a kelp drops in it wants to activate the smoker, but if it's just 1 kelp every minute then all that time the kelp block is wasted. I wonder if some sort of SR latch could be put on it to only let kelp flow in chunks of 20 so each kelp block is 100% utilized. (I haven't used an SR latch in minecraft but I have in factorio but not sure how to put on here)
I don’t even know what a SR latch is lol
@@UForced lmao
@@UForced When signal happens keep output turned on, until reset signal happens.
Awesome tutorial! What shaders and resource pack are you using?
Thank you! It’s complimentary
nice
Thank you!!
I just finished building this farm and it's amazing! Just wanted to know if this farm is self-sufficient, after producing some dried kelp?
All you gotta do is make it longer and scale it. Then you’re absolutely rolling in free XP, fuel, kelp and food :)
@@UForced hey, im not sure what you mean when you say "scale it"
can you explain please :)
@@HazyVll Add more Kelp, Pistons and Observers.
Hey. Great tutorial. Thanks! It’s producing kelp well! Only issue is I’m not sure how to “get” XP overtime. I use the lever and it stops the hopper from moving it to the chest below it. It maxes out at 64 which when I go and grab the xp from the chest (leaving the lever on) it gives me minimal XP. Any solutions? Thanks!
You need the furnace/smoker to build up the xp. So leave it running for a while (almost a full chest full. Activate the lever on the furnace/smoker. Wait till there’s 64 dried kelp inside. Remove it and you’ll get an insane amount of xp
Don't use a lever. Let it run for a while then break the Smoker before putting it back. All accumulated XP will be rewarded.
Ok... Imma build your design, but only maybe 5 long and cut in half. And I'll add in automatic off while chest is full.
Cuz if I need kelp fast, it's ALL over right out my door to the point my base has no faucet. But I like mini auto filling chests in my home base.
5 long won’t be enough. Unless you don’t need need a lot of it. 5 long is manageable
Can we start going over what we need? Even if it’s just you hovering your cursor over the item for a second because i made like 7 different things that I didn’t need because I can’t see the tiny inventory
Could have checked the description for the material list 🤷♂️
@@UForcedcoulda said that at the start of the vid 🤷🏽♂️ still a cool farm tho
What 7 different items did you make?
He has it in the description and in the video. Chill with the clapback, bro@@xayvionasherman
I am also curious what random 7 different items he made. I used chicken eggs and ender portals at first but I found your item list.@@UForced
I built this at the same size as displayed in the video. Unfortunately, kelp doesn’t grow fast enough. So when I try to autosmelt with dried kelp blocks, only a few pieces of kelp end up being cooked, but an entire dried kelp block is used for it, resulting in more losses than gains. I extended its length by 3x and it’s still too slow. Do I just keep extending until I get so much kelp that it’s no longer using more dried kelp blocks than I’m gaining?
Watch the mega automatic kelp farm tutorial. When I make a tutorial I make it 8 long. You can stack it, expand it all you want :)
Do i specifically have to use iron blocks?
No. Kelp can pretty much grow on any solid block
Why is my redstone in a straight line rather than crosses??? Can someone help me please?
Texture pack??
Does this function as an XP farm? If not is there a way to make it an XP farm?
Yeah yeah, let the items in the smoker get cooked. After a while if you click the lever, the Items will stay in the smoker. Once removed. You get tons of xp :)
How much does it produce in 30 mins? Well the design is better than the rest, especially using the fence gates!
Thank you very much! The rates are all depending on how long you build it. Since it can be scaled upwards. The rates can be multiplied.
How do you scale it up without using more hoppers or do you have to
@@thatisaspy2123 To scale it up, you need an extra Hopper, 2 additional Observers and 2 Pistons. That gives you another 2 Kelp growing.
I have 24 Kelp on each side of mine and production rate is approximately 4 stacks per hour. It doesn't seem like a lot, but it's the only way to do it in Java Edition.
Bugrock Edition lets you make a zero-tick farm using Sticky Pistons and Sand that puts out hundreds of Kelp per minute.
Sykkuno was here
Nice video bro! Can you give me your resource pack?
Complimentary shaders bud
Instead of those iron blocks can we use cobblestone
Yesssss
can you use this for bamboo/sugarcane?
Not too sure
I have clearly done something wrong as this farm is running at a loss for me, if I put in Dried kelp blocks they run out quicker than it takes to make a new one. I am getting about 5 kelp a minute at the moment. Any help would be appreciated.
Did you build it the exact same way I did, same length?
Yep, I did. I have since made it longer though. I used stone for the floor though and cobble where you had wool. Dont know if that is a problem.
@d
@callumbuecher that’s not a problem. I’d suggest doubling the farm. This tutorial is small. Making it much bigger gets you more output
Do not smoke with Kelp Blocks, use Lava if you can.
bro really getting bots to glaze him
Huh
@@UForced don't huh me
…
Can i stack it for like 10 layers?
Yeah
Can I use that block detection system which they do with comparator and repeater and redstone instead of observer
The server I am in is very hard to get redstone and quartz
hey xp always stores in the furnaces and its variants, redstone is not involved
😃👍🏻
Is one smoker enough?
Could always have a massive automatic smoker array if you have a big enough farm
Can i place sugarcane in it as well?
You can’t water log sugarcane can you?
to the people who built this and tested it, whats the rate per hour?
It’s entirely up to you on the rates per hour. Build it as long as you want and since it’s scalable. As tall as you want. The output is subjective
I just built this, and it works, but it seems very slow. How fast is this supposed to be producing?
Expand if and scale it
@@UForced I probably should have looked into that before building. My seed is pretty iron deficient, I can't just make a huge one of these. Probably need to convert to a zero tick
@@FireHobbit Not sure what you mean iron deficient. Is it mean lacking of iron? Is that even possible?
Even with a seed with no iron at all you still can build an iron golem farm that product unlimited iron right?
@@badplayboy295 probably, but that would be a different pain in the butt. I've done it in survival but it's not super easy.
You can literally make an iron farm with 3 villagers. You don’t need a hostile mob. It’s not as efficient but it’s cool to have in your spawn chunks
for me it doesnt go from dropper to chest how to fix?
What dropper?
Anyone know what the rates are for this farm?
All depends on how wide and tall you’re wanting to go, the rates for how much a kelp goes per tick is on Google
How fast does it produce kelp? Can you leave a specific growth rate per hour
No clue. Dunno how long it takes to grow a piece of kelp. But if you build a giant farm. You’ll get a lot of kelp very fast
Thank you
Roughly 4 stacks per hour in a farm that has 24 Kelp on each side.
Works on bedrock too guys
Awesomeeee
There's a zero-tick farm for Bedrock that produces 100's of Kelp per minute.
I built it but why is my observer not woking?
Wrong way? Redstone connected properly?
Yeah bro......
But when the kelp grows it dosen't detect😞
Join my discord. Links in bio. Send screenshots
can i stack them up?
You can. They’ll fall directly into the hoppers. The fence gates create a gap
@@UForced thanks for the info, now i can build it in our server and make a fortune selling dried kelp blocks for fuel:)
@LunaticNeon very soon all the tutorials I have made will be re made but in the largest form
@@UForced ohh I'll definitely watch that.
the kelp is not growing / being produced, is there a fix for this?
It should. Even if one of the kelp doesn’t grow. Once it reaches the observer all the ages get randomly changed
@@UForced is there any way I can increase the rate, because in the start of the video it’s growing rapidly but mine is producing very slowly. I have copied your exact setup, and I understand that I may need to expand it slightly to get more kelp. But is there any way else I can increase the rates?
@@blood9259 The only way to increase the rate is to extend the farm and have more Kelp growing. I have 24 on each side and get around 4 stacks per hour.
This thing is super slow?
All depends on how big you’ve built it
@@UForced i did the one in the video and i have 47 kelp in around an hour and a half
Expand it, scale it. It doesn’t have to be the same size that’s in the video.
schematic?
I don’t have one
레드스톤 16, 옵저버 16, 피스톤 16, 양털 16, 호퍼 8, 상자 1, 유리 64, 모래 2세트, 훈연기 1, 상자 1, 통 1
Where is the flying machine?
What flying machine?
@@UForced I thought a kelp farm wth a flying machine would have the best efficiency like sugar cane and bamboo farms
can u build it for me?
Unfortunately I stopped building them for players years ago, sorry
te me cuelgas
Huh?
this dont work
When kelp placed in downward-flowing water, the flowing water transforms into a water source block,
so the last 2 Lines of Water are not flowing....
Join my discord. Send me a photo of it. Pretty sure something went wrong somewhere
Now you can make it fully automatic with the crafter. No more searching for coal
Exactly. I’ll create a video using it this week ;)
Is it okay to replace the hoppers with rails and minecart hopper?
Not too sure if that’ll work well but give it a try on a creative world first
