- All of us have grown up watching bizarre 90s cartoons. Most of us have been Power Rangers addicts since we were little. Chances are you’re familiar with Big Bad Beetleborgs as well. Coming from the same production houses as Saban and Toei, who produced Power Rangers, Beetleborgs was a regular show dominating the Fox Kids block on TV. Despite having similarities to its cousin show, Big Bad Beetleborgs had a unique concept itself. But sometimes, it was kind of weird too. I mean, three children having powers to change into robot beetle soldiers is kind of whack. Why beetles? To answer this, we have to get into the details of this 90’s favorite show, so let’s roll.

I remember this series as a kid, alongside Power Rangers. It had a catchy theme song and the ghost guy reminded me of Jay Leno. lol
I saw this show way before I saw Power Rangers and Kamen Rider it will always have a special place in my heart.
LOL THANK YOU!!!! I thought that I was the only one who thought that. I thought that it was Jay Leno for the longest time. I kinda wish that they had kept it going but with Power Rangers and some of the other shows it got lost.

This and VR troopers were the shit. A lot of people slept on Bettleborg I always felt it was a scaled down version of power rangers.
That’s what’s the actor that played Roland the green beetleborg and later silver beetleborg said something similar like that in a interview
Big bad beetleborgs and beetleborgs metallics were actually one of my favorites alongside Power Rangers. The concept of a comic book given kids that pause by a ghost was way out there. This series also made me realize and inspire me to start drawing and think of how comic books are made.
On a side note one thing they forgot to mention is in the shadowborg ark, they added a white blasted beetleborg. The suit was more or less from a comedic character from the original B-Fighters.
One series that actually had other beetle theme superheroes was some Kamen Rider series. In fact Kamen Rider was being tried to be adapted for American audience not once but twice. People might know it as Masked rider and Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. Would like to see you guys do a video on these if you haven't already.

I used to watch this every day when I got out of school! This was my favorite show! It used to air on Fox Kids.
Fox Kids was great.
Another fun show that was around at the same time was Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad.
Also, Flabber feels more inspired by Jay Leno.

Kind of ironic how of all the american tokusatsu it was only Superhuman Samurai who had an actual positive impact in japan, it's title being referenced in the gridman anime

he lost his powers pretty quickly after they beat the Shadow Borg
He said Josh instead of Jo, when he didn't come in till later (mostly to capitalize on the White Ranger popularity probably).
I thought this show was a fever dream until a couple of years ago. I lovethe designs and really envisioned myself being a beetleborg lol. I think it's because they were my age and superheroes

Beetleborgs will forever be one of the best series out there.
There was a 4th beetleborg introduced with the ability to go invisible but yet never went beyond a few episodes
From what I heard, it was because the Japanese counterpart used an actual firearm as his sidearm.
That was called the White Blaster Beetleborg. It was powers given to a kid who came to the town that didn't stay around very long many weeks later. Drew/Blue Stinger Beetleborg was jealous of him at times, but they settled their differences. Eventually, the White Blaster Beetleborg powers faded after finally defeating the Evil Shadowborg since it was the whole reason White Blaster Beetleborg even existed.
I love big bad beetleborgs it was tons of fun growing up with this show.

Wrong. Beetleborgs was a clever show, but not underrated. The theme song totally sucked. Saban wasted great Japanese footage by casting kids. Beettleborgs would have been cool if it was adult actors and a mature storyline.

I remember renting the VHS tapes at blockbuster and Hollywood video, in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. This was after the show ended.
Just listening to you. Describe all of the Hurst house monsters makes me want to break out my DVDs and watch through this series again.

Big Bad Beetleborgs was my family's favorite! We thought it was cool that kids were becoming the heroes instead of a regular cartoon.

It was the most bizarre show. Combining Sentai with cheesy classic horror and a ghost who I always thought was supposed to be the ghost of Elvis
I remember this cheesy show, I honestly think this should have been a sequel to VR Troopers instead of new series altogether.

You are wrong in one place. When you named actress which played Jo, you show Shanon Chandler. She played in first 40 episodes and only after was changed to Brittany Konarzewski, don't know why( Want to find Shanon, but there are very little info in google
My son was curious about the show so did some digging and found this video. I noticed the same thing. I'm not in the video anywhere and Shannon wasn't in the Metallic series at all.
The show was so dumb...but, my best friend and I would watch it every day. The House Monsters are what made the show.
The best part was when the Monsters were chasing around that Jo, so they could eat her. But, she used her super-strength to throw random objects at them. And, she picks up a big 'ol anvil out of nowhere, and the Mummy says, "Hey! Where'd you get the anvil?"
Another time, when the Count comes out and says, "Would anyone like a...Blood Lite?" And, Flabber says, "I love you, man!"
Both of those instances had me and my best friend laughing for a good five minutes.

I have a very close friend of mine that was not me. That worked as an extra when filming the show with the kids in Santa Paula, CA. the end of 1995 and 1996 for second season.. I got smacked in back of the head by the Frankenstein character. Um again not me but a friend.. yeah a friend. But he cryed alot . Said cuz of looking in camera

Now this is my good nostalgia right here, made me love the metallic RGB theme, the Thunder Stinger is still my favorite Battlelizer. I remember a Fox Kids event/convention? (Idk I was 5) they had people in the actual suits standing for meet and greets. Basically a more awesome version of Mall Santas

What do you think a crossover would be like? I was thinking of a crossover between Power Rangers Zeo and Big Bad Bettle Borgs and two crossovers during Power Rangers Turbo. One during Tommy's Team and the and one with T. J's Team .
@@Zakaria3400 Those are good ideas, well theyd have to be close seasons, if you want both the OG and Metallix Beetleborgs. They could do a teamup right near the end with the OG beetles and Zeo rangers, that could be how the Machine Empire had them in Forever Red. Empire just analyzed combat data or whatever lol. I'd be fine if the Metallix beetles were in Turbo, and itd be nice for Justin to see other kid ranger/heroes his age. A potential rivalry with Andrew as Blue "rangers". But with their theming I think an In Space teamup would be cooler and fit a lot better. So you could do a Turbo->In Space. We'd see them fighting during Countdown to Destruction like Phantom Ranger and etc.

@@Zakaria3400 Thatd be cool, itd be a proper sendoff for the Beetleborgs and end to the Zordon (classic Saban) era. Hoping Boom comics will do something with them, we've seen the TMNT teamup and VS Godzilla mini series do well. I wouldn't mind if it was just with the MMPR crew teaming up with the Borgs either
