    Offensively and physically I see alot of young Klay Thompson, at their very best scoring purely off the ball especially with movement looks, the main difference between the two is that Klay Thompson was a plus defender because he was a better lateral athlete with more intense mentality on that end of the court.

    "Doesn't have the foot speed and agility". Appreciate the breakdown and the film is the film, so I tend to trust that much more. But with Knecht being the fastest player at the Combine really killing it in the agility drills, I wonder if there's any rethinking about what kind of growth he may be capable of.

    • @FloorandCeiling
      @FloorandCeiling  Před měsícem +3

      Very valid question. He did well in the combine drills but, like you said, I just lean towards trusting a whole season of tape a lot more.
      Reed Sheppard jumped out of the gym at the combine for example, and I think that athleticism shows with his contests or deflections at times, but he's not really using it to finish at the rim on offense.

    In this lackluster draft even if Dalton is just a role player I think he’d end up being one of the better players in this draft class - being a high end role player. As a Bulls fan I’d love for us to draft him. We need shooters and you talked about teams that would allow him to post up? Demar would love to mentor Dalton has he has all our young bucks(See P-Will’s middy and post game). I think Dalton could slide in nicely on the Bulls and develop nicely without a lot of pressure as Coby White and Demar would be primary ball handlers and he’d most likely be that spark off the bench anyway. Thoughts?

    • @FloorandCeiling
      @FloorandCeiling  Před 2 měsíci +4

      What you're saying makes sense, but I think it's about time that the Bulls pivot into more of a total rebuild. I know that's unlikely with the current regime, but it really feels like this current team (as has been the case for many seasons) has reached its final destination.
      If the reports are true and Isaiah Collier falls in the draft, the Bulls should immediately snatch him up and look to the future with him and Coby White as their backcourt for now.

      @@FloorandCeiling I agree honestly, they should have blown it up this year and last year too, hopefully get blown up this offseason. Mediocrity is the worst position to be in. A Coby and Collier pairing would be nice for the future. Thanks for replying!
      Also I think Lavine is the one who goes first. I would doubt me too, as I’m a random person on the net, but my friend does indeed work within the bulls and informed me back at the deadline Lavine was well on his way to Detroit before Rich Paul shut it down and told Zach to get that “season ending surgery” lol.

    I just wouldn't overthink it with him. He can shoot off of the catch, he can shoot off movement, he can even shoot off the dribble a bit. He can drive and finish against a bent defense, he probably won't be the star bending it himself but thats ok. He can handle the ball enough. He's got enough size. He's got enough athleticism. I see an NBA player. One that probably helps a team in his rookie year.

    • @FloorandCeiling
      @FloorandCeiling  Před 4 měsíci +5

      Yeah, he's a surefire NBA player. I like him right outside the lottery. Looking at recent drafts, there probably aren't going to be 20 players who return more value than Knecht. Ultimately, I just prefer some higher upside bets, but that's more of a personal draft philosophy sort of thing.
      Like you're saying and as I pointed out in the video, he's going to be 23 as a rookie and there's a high chance he's an immediate offensive contributor with his shooting versatility and athleticism (though in a more narrow role than at Tennessee, which is fine).

    I agree with your takes on finishing and driving, but I think instead of JUST open court handling, I think he could potentially use it to attack closeouts at the NBA level, his elite shooting allows him to get a step on defenders who are closing out to him, and with that space he has a lot more success finishing than when guarded.
    I do think your take on his defense is a little harsh. Most of the clips you're showing are from early in the season, and he's improved a lot since then on that end. I don't think he's a positive NBA defender by any means, but I don't think he's completely incompetent on that side either. I think he can develop to the point where he's hideable on that side and not a significant liability.

    • @FloorandCeiling
      @FloorandCeiling  Před 4 měsíci +3

      These are all fair points. I appreciate you taking the time to talk through them as well.
      On your first one about his finishing, yeah, I think he'll be able to attack closeouts. He's going to have the gravity from three and he should be able to both take a dribble in and take a middy or, even more ideally, sidestep or stepback into a three. His shooting will in turn open up those driving lanes, so I agree that the space will be there for him (maybe more so than in college). I just wanna see how he'll do against NBA-caliber length, both when the help arrives, but also if he's being guarded by someone who (for example) might be 6-8 or 6-9 in the league, rather than a similar 6-5 or 6-6 in college.
      Defensively, sure. I expect him to eventually be passable. At least not a total minus. It's just that I really wish he was more of a playmaker on that end with his pop and length. Knecht has pretty long arms, but he barely uses them imo. That's already the case in college, so I'm also taking into account the 2-3 seasons it usually takes for a prospect to learn NBA defense. At the end of the day, though, his money in the league will come more so from his offense, so it's just about getting his defense to a point that is alright.

      Sure, but the role can be more or less important/replaceable. Knecht is irreplaceable in this current Tennessee team, but I'd be shocked if he turned out to be that in the NBA. He'll still be a good player (especially offensively) who returns top 20 value, though.

    Dalton Knecht will have a decent NBA career similar to the likes of a Bogdan Bogdanovic........ a 10+ year career, 15-20 ppg, smart HIGH END role player.
    He could fool people if he ends up on a bad NBA team, because with opportunity he could easily average 25 ppg in the NBA if he has the green light, but I don't see him being a viable first or 2nd option for a contending team in the league.

    • @FloorandCeiling
      @FloorandCeiling  Před 4 měsíci +4

      Yeah, I think he’ll definitely be much more of a role player in the league and he won’t do-it-all, as is the case at Tennessee.
      Still, he’s a smart and athletic scorer who’s proven his production over many years now. Similar to what you’re saying, I fully buy into him returning top 20 value in this draft class.

    • @FloorandCeiling
      @FloorandCeiling  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Thanks for watching! To his credit, I think Strus has improved as a defender every year since he's gotten into the NBA. It also helps that he's insulated with some really good defensive bigs, be it Bam Adebayo, Jarrett Allen, or Evan Mobley.
      Offensively, Strus was pretty good in college before honing in on a more specialized role in the NBA (more so in Miami than with the Cavs, where he does a bit more). As a senior at DePaul, Strus made 67% of his close twos out of 110 attempts, 37.5% of his jumpers on 120 attempts, and 36% of his threes on 311 attempts (about 13 threes per 100 possessions).
      Knecht is at 58.6% of his close twos on 152 attempts (with more dunks than Strus a senior, so he gets to the rim a bit more but also isn't as accurate), 40% of his 82 midrange jumpers (pretty similar), and 40% of his 140 attempted threes (10.4 triples per 100 possessions).
      These advanced stats never tell the full story, but in terms of numbers, positional size, trajectory (Strus started at a D2 school, Knecht at the JUCO level), and projectable NBA role, I feel like Strus and Knecht are comparable prospects.

    Dalton Knecht is a more stronger physical version of Klay Thompson. Both have unlimited range, but Dalton is not afraid to slash through the lane for a layup or dunk no matter who is guarding the rim.

    You sum him up as a bucket, but other than his shot, you basically ripped him to shreds. That’s fine, and I appreciate brutal honesty when it comes scouting players. However, I’m confused as to how you can call him a bucket after the critique you lathered him with just moments before.
    When you got to his defense, I was wondering if you were ever going to get to the good stuff. With the issues you laid out, college is terrible if he’s the best offensive player in the country. Going by how you see him, this guy projects as pretty useless other than jacking up 3s, which is nice, but not top 20 value. There are many players in this draft that can shoot and not much else.
    I’m not impressed. As a 5th year senior, I wouldn’t touch him in the top 35 based on your evaluation.I ’m disappointed my favorite team gave him a private workout. I mean, really?

      Like I mention in the video, I think he’s a legit athlete and he can use that to get to the basket but I think he’s much better at doing so in the open court or, at bare minimum, getting a screen.
      I think his handle limits him 1v1, versus longer defenders which he will come up against in the NBA more, and against a set half-court defense. Knecht will most likely be able to push off misses, but I don’t think an NBA team will task him with self-creating as much as he’s encouraged to do at Tennessee.
