- We've just spent an amazing week on the beautiful Marella Explorer on the Iconic Islands Cruise and absolutely loved it.
Although our first time on the Marella Explorer, we've actually holidayed on it before when it was the Celebrity Galaxy - the ship made famous in TV's, The Cruise with Jane MacDonald.
The Marella Explorer is one of five cruise ships in the Marella Cruises Fleet, the others being, The Marella Explorer 2, The Marella Discovery, The Marella Discovery 2 and the Marella Voyager.
If you have been watching our channel for a while, you may know that Rach used to work on the cruise ships many years ago as a production dancer and then as a choreographer.
One of Rach's ships that she worked on for a good while was the Celebrity Century, the sister ship of the Celebrity Galaxy, which is what the Marella Explorer now is.
If you like cruise ship diaries, beautiful locations, Greece, the Mediterranean and anything cruise ship related, then this is the video for you. During this series, we will be sharing our cruise ship diaries for the week, focusing on 2 days at a time.
In this Marella Explorer Cruise Ship Diary, it's days 7 and 8, it's nearly time to head home, but first we visit Katakolon, where we head over to the amazing Ancient Site of Olympia, home of the original Olympic Games. The following day, we take a look at Corfu Town.
In this Katakolon / Olympia and Corfu vlog, we start by arriving in the port of Katakolon, before heading over to the ancient site of Olympia, where we take a look at the birth place of the Olympic Games.
Once we've finished in Olympia and it's museum, we head back into Katakolon. There's not a lot there, but it's very pretty and we enjoy some food and a well deserved drink.
The end of the day, we're back onboard the Marella Explorer where we take in the show, eat some lovely food and drink lots of fine wine and beer.
The next day sees us in the beautiful Corfu Town. We take a 30 minute or so walk into the town and take a look at what it has to offer. We look around the lovely streets of Corfu Town, visit the Old Fortress and find a gem of a hideaway that is Faliraki beach (not to be confused with Faliraki in Rhodes).
We then continue through the streets of Corfu Town before heading back to the ship to get ready for our journey home.
We weren't going to show any of our journey home, but Corfu Airport turned out to be a bit of an, 'adventure' to say the least.

Postcard & A Pint was thought up by my partner, Rachel & myself, Wills one day while taking our daily 1 hour exercise during the lockdown of 2020. All of a sudden, we were spending more time together, not working 6 or 7 days a week in the arts industry, and binge watching travel programs, and we were actually really enjoying it, and it made us re-evaluate what was important in life for us. Now back to working 6 or 7 days a week again, with very little time off, our happy time is getting out there on our brief times off together and making short travel videos that we are now sharing with you. So the airport snafu wouldn't have been because a couple of thousand poms descended on the place at the same time after their cruise would it? Who could've seen that coming? They must've been shocked. It probably hadn't happened in days? But otherwise everything else was fantastic. Corfu looked pretty authentic and less touristy than the other places. Olympia would've been fascinating. The smoke would've made me feel homesick. Enough cat puns to keep every one of Meodusa's snakes fed. Rach wearing the stars and stripes as the token American tourist was a nice touch. It has been a very entertaining series. Makes me want to go on holiday. It has been 4 years after all. It's a shame Wills won't be doing a joke next week. Hey Wills, you'll have to start telling a joke at some point. You've been teasing us for years. 😁

You need to go on holiday Shane! Or edit some more videos!!! Didn’t even realise I’d dressed as an American! Go me! You’re probably right about the airport, but apparently it’s like that every Friday! It reminded me of the Greek airports I went to back in the 90’s when they served 5 flights a day and you could only fly from the U.K. from London Manchester or Scotland!! Now it’s a really busy airport, but has the same tech in the terminal it had back then! Nightmare. Anyways all home now. Cheers for watching 🍻

I think they probably start each day fine and then as the day goes on they get further and further behind. Very impressive Wills! 🤣🤣 We see why you're running, Rachel! Loved seeing these impressive Olympic ruins. An absolutely beautiful area and we enjoyed seeing the old fortress. But, I have never seen a line like that in an airport! If we ever do visit Greece we'll be sure to avoid the island of Corfu unless we get there by ferry. Thanks for bringing us along.

We LOVED the series Durrells in Corfu!! Have you watched it? If not, I insist you do... SO fun! There are some otters and hedgehogs in it, but more importantly, lots of Corfu and hilarious British family hijinx and drama. Great writing and acting as well.

Oh no missing sunglasses! Bad times about the wild fires, becoming more and more commonplace. Very impressive Olympic grounds. Nude olympics, yikes! Your doing very well with the heat. We have a week of upper 20s ahead, way too warm for us. Well done Raja. Great captain interview! 😂 lovely xmas decorations on display. Corfu Town is stunning! Purrfect companion. I know bad times with both the sunglasses and wildfires. You could really smell the smoke in the air. Nudey olympics sounds painful to be honest! We’ll be keeping out of the Med in august from now on, I can’t wait until we can travel in may or October times. The captain was mental, a bit concerning he was head of the vessel, but a great guy. Loved this Rach and Wills, we were almost as sad as you guys that your Greek adventure was over 😢. Olympia was fascinating! 20m columns! That would have been a sight to behold 🤩. Loved the story about you all running around in your sheets and the tourists filming you😂. For some reason in our heads you were doing the egg and spoon race like a school sports day😂😂🙈. Corfu looked beautiful (airport aside!). That swim spot you found at falaraki beach was unreal, don't think we would have been able to resist that🥰. So many pussy cats , all with outstanding names, bravo Rach😻🙌. Wow, the airport experience looked absolutely horrendous!! You two did really well to hold it together, i think we would have lost our minds 🫣. As much as we have enjoyed your trip, we will be avoiding Corfu airport at all cost!

I was impressed myself by how much of the tour guides info I remembered! I’m not usually that bright! The captain had a very British sense of humour, everyone loved him. If anyone is panicking about Corfu airport- I got back on friday and two days before disembarking there was a letter in my cabin explaining how not fun the airport can be, and how they have arranged for extra staff- it only took just over an hour from disembarking the ship to getting through security, but then the queue for passport control after security went around the departure lounge nearly twice! So get in it as soon as you get through if you have to! It ended up being fine (the flight was delayed by half an hour and then more as the pilot got confused with greek traffic control and missed the slot) but you could easily miss your flight if you don't know to get in the queue! But deffo not as bad as middle of august at all :)

Great stuff! That captain is nuts 🤣 love it. I am heading to katakolon next month (well if the cruise doesn’t get cancelled) so this was useful, although seemed small. Wow that did not seem fun at airport!!

If you haven’t googled “cats that look like Hitler” well …… We’ve found that Marella excursions are always too short but Olympia does look amazing… Corfu town is lovely and the Alfa beer perfect for hot days. We need another go at Corfu so hoping that’s for 24…. But Corfu airport for us was a shocker on arrival and worked well on departure for us… The opposite of your experience… Maybe they draw lots ?? I have googled cats that look like hitler on numerous occasions!! Interesting you say all Marella excursions are short - it’s something to know for next time. We loved Corfu town, it was so pretty! Yup I think Corfu airport is pretty awful at any time! Weird you had the opposite experience! Man we were tired!!!! Cheers for watching 🍻
Love the videos and the info! I'm going on the Marella Aegean shores cruise in 3 weeks so this was so helpful and exciting! Also good to know about the airport especially as I'm going by myself, my flight is midday so hopefully it wont be too bad 😬 I also in theory get there at midday and plan to look round corfu after checking in!

We are going on the Marella Explorer on Friday and it looks great. Not looking forward to the return flight which is also TOM2519. Cant say its anything new though. I was last in Corfu in 1987 and the airport was just as chaotic back then.

Great videos of your cruise. 😃When did you fly back from Corfu because I have never seen a queue or delay like that in over 30 years and over 100 visits? Was it the weekend when the air traffic control system went down?
It was the weekend before. I think Fridays are particularly bad as it seems to be TUI change over day! Cheers 🍻

Yes; the airport was shocking and we travelled back to Newcastle the same day as yourselves, (but earlier) as we were on your cruise. We had the same queue in the searing heat and a 3 hour flight delay also. Mind, it could have been even worse when you see what happened 3 days later when the whole of European Air Traffic control almost ground to a halt. We said the same as yourselves, ie we will never fly into Corfu again.😂. Congrats on a very professional video, it was as good as any tv travel show. Loved your humour too.@@PostcardAndAPint

Ah thank you. Yes you can book on board, but as booking opens 2 weeks before, they may be sold out. We booked before, but there were lots of buses on our trip, so I'm sure you can.
