  • We have had to manage our camera settings for as long as we have been strapping a GoPro to our FPV drones...but what does all of it even mean and why is it different with the DJI O3 digital FPV system? Why should you lock things like ISO, shutter speed, or white balance? Well, today I am going to break all of those things down for you and show you how to find the perfect settings for what you are doing with that shiny new O3 camera. Then again you might just want to leave it on auto, or will you?

    Fantastic PSA on settings! Next iteration of the O3 needs a optical device that can split the image and bend it to a 2nd sensor on the main block. Film cameras do this with a beam splitter and mirror from the ground glass for the viewfinder.

    I think maybe your recommendation of using a lens filter might be the best approach for my efforts of trying to get the most visible navigation in low lighting, I could just throw it on in the daytime. Even so, when I set the ISO to its highest it's not really a big enough improvement to see what I want. If I'm like riding around on dark pavement under streetlights then the moment I leave the light flood it looks like I'm coasting on abyss. I think I saw something about new firmware that allows 30fps settings.. which I suppose does sound ridiculously hard to navigate with.. but if that's true maybe us ground level guys can use it in the dark.

    Look, you not going to loose your motion blurre by letting auto shutter decide, instead it increase it! If it's getting darker it jumps from 120 to 60 or even lower and ruins your image as well! I noticed if you leave on full auto it sticks to your max available iso and constantly changing the shutter, but some times when you fly opposite the sun your image getting to blurred, so i checked and seen the shutter tooooo low, that's it comes to a hard decision what to lock you know....

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  Před rokem

      yeah, it is kind of a lot of info crammed into this one, lol. For flying with the lowest possible latency, you for sure want to be running your camera at 120fps. One thing to consider though is that at 120fps if you want to fly 4:3 aspect ratio in the goggles you will need to have the camera set to 2.7k since in 4k you will only be able to get 16:9. Everything else about how it is set up is really up to you as it won't impact the latency, just the light handling!

    Definitely leave the shutter on auto like you said but not with an O3. Not sure I will get an O3 until vistas/links aren’t possible to get although if I built another 3.5” the O3 would be a good option to keep the weight down without an external camera.

    Ok, your footage is crazy wicked good, love the whole video thank you. I'm brand spankin new to the 03 unit, I took it out a ripped 4 packs, so a couple questions I hope you can help me out with, 1. Out of the 4 packs only one flight of 5mins (in 2 separate files cause I can't do anything about that, if there is an option to get just 1 file please let me know.) I was trying different frame rates to see how they looked when I got home, well the only one I got to see was the 4k120fps none rocksteady. Is there a common reason files don't get recorded? I do see it says my sd card isn't fast enough (it should be) still 3 flights of missing footy. I had checked during each flight I was recording, I didn't land during any of the flights. I did change the settings to 4k120fps rocksteady, none-rocksteady 4k60fps rocksteady, and non-rocksteady. I didn't lock any settings like you advised in this video, so I wasn't too impressed. I also did a couple of the flights with nd 16 and a couple without, I only see my last video (new sd btw) The video isn't as clear as I thought it would be for 4k120fps....... however maybe with some of your settings, it'll be better. I like the 120fps 4k option as I like cinematic speed up and slowdowns, getting 120fps slow-mo is worth it, it's very choppy though, I hope with your settings advice this will be a working wicked cam. What do you recommend for the perfect SD card for the 03, and where do you think my footage when too? Maybe it's on my goggles2? I'll check, if it is, that won't be 4k120 fps footage right? just 1080 to the googles? Thanks for your help...... hoping tomorrow shows signs of better videography.... I do hope you see this soon and can let me know what you think. Or anypne else with the perfect list..... that would be amazing.
    List would look like - For 4k60fps use -
    For 4k120fps use - ect ect :)

    Great video Bacon. Hey man are you flying in 4:3 or 16x9? And do you think the extra resolution at 16x9 (great for stills from vid) is worth loosing the vertical we see as a pilot used to flying in 4:3? Ty again.

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  Před rokem +1

      Soooooo, from a pilot perspective I always prefer flying in 4:3 for the extra vertical height. I find myself using points at the top and bottom of the screen as anchors for a lot of moves, and that gets much harder to do in 16:9. I do fly in 16:9 mode though, but only when I know for sure I am going to use the footage in that format...even though it is a little limiting. I haven't found the experience of taking 4:3 footage and formatting it into 16:9 to yield very good results :( so if I am gong to actually use it, I chop off that top and bottom and live with it. For all other things though, 4:3 all day!

      the Go2 is a little weird about how it "locks" things, lol. It is a whooooole other animal and only lets you lock ISO or shutter, then sometimes decides it isn't going to save it between power cycles. I liked to shoot with mine in 30fps and lock the ISO down low but let the shutter do what it wanted. Sometimes I would throw an ND4 or ND8 on it to force the auto shutter to open a little longer and help with jello, but that one is really up to you.

    13:50 This bit is probably why barely anyone would use the FPV camera for their HD footage, even if it was even better than O3. Because they want the HD footage to be all motion blurry (and with harsh exposure) which makes it really hard to follow how the quad flew, making people think they're really great pilots for being able to fly it, when really, they just used an FPV camera with essentially no motion blur and a really flat exposure that makes it much easier...

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  Před rokem +1

      As I understand it, there isn't a way to focus the camera externally. If yours has gone wonky and isn't in focus anymore, I would imagine something internal has come loose and is now out of place in it. May be worth opening it up and double checking everything with the plan B of maybe buying a new camera module.

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  Před rokem +2

      unfortunately the sensor in the 03 unit just can't get that kind of low light performance :( it doesn't have the native ISO to go down that low and not be completely distorted, and the fixed aperture is kind of small so it doesn't let a ton of light in. Wish it did though, because that would be pretty awesome!

    have you tried 03 on DJI V2 goggles vs vista on 25 and 50mb. Trying to understand if its a worth it upgrade. My Vistas on 50mb is pretty darn clear. 25mb can get a little blocky.

    • @creationlabsinc.189
      @creationlabsinc.189 Před rokem +1

      The 03 wipes the floor with it on image quality and range and penetration. The only thing that it doesn’t do better is going from light to dark. Maybe a FW update could make it better? But it’s leaps better other than that.

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  Před rokem +1

      so...compared to a vista on 50mb mode, the O3 does have better image quality. Is it a night and day difference, maybe not. Is it a noticeable difference, yes absolutely it is! Now where it really shines is range and penetration since it handles compression better on the low end of signal quality. At the end of the day though, it has to be $100 worth of better for you to beat out a Link/wasp setup.

    • @MANDOXsquid
      @MANDOXsquid Před rokem

      @Bacon Ninja FPV I guess i've never had issues with range and penetration but that very well could be a selling point for me as i over all would feel more comfortable pushing it harder. I enjoy the vista on my Nebula Pro cams at 50mb visually. It's usually pretty good as long as it's not getting blocky. I will say the runcam link(vista) works great but I didn't like the wasp as a camera at all, the color is weird atleast on mine, and the fov my eyes dont notice the small gain. Maybe I got a bad one but every run cam I've owned I just wasn't feeling haha. How is the o3 with the ghost branches 😂 fast moving, and thin branches are they pretty clear from a distance?

    • @Markq666
      @Markq666 Před rokem +1

      Definitely worth the upgrade 🤷🏽‍♂️ you will notice the difference right away. I use my o3 quad for day time and my link wasp for night flying. You can’t really fly in dark places not good at low light but the vista definitely better for night. So maybe you can decide depending if you fly in darker places mostly and if you don’t plan on using the 03 to record your video . Dji is the best at Hd rn so either one’s good. Just depending on what your gonna use it for 👍🏼

      hey, nothing wrong with that! I like a white balance lock and an ISO limit just to keep the image noise down and the white colors stable for playing with the footage in post :)

    What's happening? This has nothing to do with this vid. Since I know you have both the speedybee f7 and f4 stacks. I was just curious about the actual difference between the two. If either actually flies better than the other. And if they are the same. Why would you even buy the f7 stack?
    PS.
    Stay greasey! 😁

      It is a good question!! As far as the F4 vs F7 thing...the only "real" difference which you will actually notice is the ability to invert a UART without hardware if you need it. That isn't a super big deal though. The real difference is the ESC and the fact that the F4 comes with an 8-bit while the F7 comes with a 32-bit. I prefer a 32-bit running BLHeli32 over an 8-bit running BlueJay just because it can do the variable byRPM PWM frequency. That feature makes a big difference when it comes to keeping oscillations out of your footage at certain throttle positions while also giving you the most battery life when it can. Again not a huge deal, but I like the full feature set when I can do it but the more budget F4 stack is perfectly fine.

    Cinematography🤣🤣 is a joke that folks need to stop tossing around. Honestly folks, just shoot automatic with some filter and add motion blur in post. Have fun and fly.

    This one feels a bit phoned in and lacking in substance.

      @@BaconNinjaFPV maybe a bit more flight footage showing how the settings affect things.

      @ yeah I intentionally avoided that one for this since you can't control the outdoor lighting. I went with indoor so that I could control the consistency of the studio lights. I will keep it in mind for next time though!

    Where in the greasy hell are you flying? It looks like the outback Australia. You can hide some dead bodies out there.

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  Před rokem

      lolol, it is just a local unused park here. They had a huge playground at one point but the ripped it out and just kind of left this whole chunk of property here with nobody using it. About as far from the outback as you can get, but I guess Texas is probably the "down under" of the US, lol.
