As an animator, it's already hard syncing sound, but music? We don't have that muscle memory, let alone knowing how to play.
Agreed
Exactly its a pretty dumb critique imo.
On the flip side you could ask musicians to help you out.
@@CS_Mango why go through all that effort of hiring someone else which will cost the company more money for something that the vast majority of people won’t care about.
Coco is animated correctly. I mean, it's a movie about music, but the added realism makes me love the movie more.
1. Syncing lips to sounds is already complicated process never mind instruments.
2. Animators seldom get reference footage of the music and the sound is done in post.
3. If it's done on a TV schedule you can throw out any chance of it being accurate due to the breakneck speed of Production.
4. Few animators have played instruments after elementary school, if at all.
Nobody is actually upset that an instrument isn’t animated correctly. They’re just made for fun to see how ridiculous it would actually sound; they’re not made to complain.

Asking an animator to animate instruments correctly is like asking a minimum wage fast food worker to make truffle pasta.
There's the off chance that the restaurant specifically picked someone who can make truffle pasta, but should you expect it from every fast food worker you meet?
Bruh
This needs to be on top
One solution would be to hire someone else to review the animation and make sure it's correct, like a quality control musician, or just bring one of your musicians from the soundtrack to review the animation
@@budling5921 or you know, record footage of someone playing the instrument so animators can use it as reference?
Asking an animator who is underpaid who spent probably 3 or 4 weeks animating someone playing an instrument for a retake on the animation just because they drew the placement of the fingers wrong on the neck of the guitar is asking that animator to curse you and the pro musician you hired to review their animation instead of just sending them video footage they can reference
(This is more for high effort animation like movies and some anime)
@@Rarururu__ that's a much smarter and simpler solution than what I suggested for sure

Sadly for studios such as Illumination, paying animators more money to make more accurate piano notes isn't going to return on invesment. Animators in general are known to be underpaid and have their art swept under the rug. Just take a look at the most recent Oscars, just shows how some people see the worth of animation little more than kids content. (disgraceful)

I still don't get why people lose their minds when an instrument isn't animated correctly in a cartoon, because not only would that be extremely difficult to do, the animators also aren't even getting paid that much anyway.
Yeah most “western” animation is outsourced for cheap in places like China and Korean. Probably some 10 year old being whipped for 10 cents an hour. Very similar to iPhones or even t shirts, if it’s mass produced it probably comes from some shady source.
Some animations don't even have other things animated walking to lip movement ...true most don't get paid much any way.
I mean, the first time someone made them sync they won an Oscar. It's hard.
@@hexogramd8430 yeah "western animation" like animes don't do the exact same thing. Most Japanese cartoons are animated in places like Korea or China too ya know
It's kinda a pet peeve musicians have
How dare these overworked and underpaid animators who have probably never animated, yet alone played a majority of instruments animate those instruments wrong.
It's interesting to see which ones are animated correctly, because those are usually musician lead scenes or gags, so they do have the experience to get the notes
That being said, not every show NEEDS their instruments to be perfect and this is like, ULTRA nitpicky if you use it to criticize animators
Just keep it fun, guys lol
Thank you.
Nevermind animating an instrument correctly, I can't even instrument correctly _or_ animate correctly
Me Too
I can't believe you're even dignifying this with a response.
Moral of the story: No one cares how well you know how to play an instrument. You try making an 879 frame per second animation
I’m both an animator and music producer. I can understand why it’s very wasteful to animate instruments correctly. Nobody honestly cares so it’s better to animate instruments incorrectly but spending WAY WAY WAY less time
I'd agree honestly, its getting annoying from me because people are crying over just some small details like I get it sometimes the entire movie is about instruments and music but it takes hours, days, even weeks because of those small details and if you disagree because some show uploads like 1 - 2 days just take note it takes a long time for these to work and the animators aren't to lazy, I mean they have to work like hours of low paid jobs and trying to perfect it. So please who ever shits on animators that don't animate correct Please respect them and do not just cry about, and one last thing to end this comment off deez nuts.
@@poostinky594 agree with what you say. People think it’s a lot easier than It really is sometimes. Also deez nuts 🗿
@@Sthangimations firstly this meme never insulted anyone.its a learning experiance.as an animator your should know more than anyone else animators themselves are more aware of their mistakes.many times because of restraints and circumstances they are not satisfied with their final work.but sometimes they go the extra mile with details mainly for themselves.not everyone in the audience will notice or appreciate but those who will will find a connection with animator.the respect for the work increases.sometimes without even understanding music you just know its animated correctly.its a magical feeling.that's why sometimes these kinds of works are important.

It’s amazing to me that one of the few examples of accurate instrument animation in Tom and Jerry’s Cat Concerto. A short from 1947. It was this, along with just being a stellar cartoon, that made it win so many awards.
Kind of amazing that something that old has that amazing of animation, while many cartoons nowadays can’t even be bothered to keep characters at consistent heights.
thing is the animation industry was different back then, nowadays animators are overworked, underpaid, and usually have to work at break neck speeds to accomodate for their near nonexistent schedule
And it around 6 minutes
It’s not actually, it’s only the first part and then it’s no longer animated correctly, and the left hand is incorrect, but it doesn’t matter anyways.
Its mostly budget, Tom and Jerry’s Cat Concerto was not originally intended for TV because people didn't have those back then, so they had to go out and spend their money, so they had to get a worthwhile product, so having correct instruments was something they could afford because the returns on those profits would be huge. But today, they are aired on tv, or on streaming, which has way less income, so they can't get all big and bold like that, because they wouldn't get returns of those profits, its not a matter of good or bad, its just a matter of budget, both require effort and have love and care behind them.

I love how decades ago Animusic perfectly animated instruments being played based on midi input, and nowadays 3d animators are manually placing characters' fingers on the wrong keys.
As Patrick said once, “Do people animate instruments correctly?”
I’m pretty sure a lot of the people who don’t like how instruments are animated would really like Animusic. That’s some real accurate shit right there.
Honestly I watch animated movies or series for the plot. So if they play music, I don't really care if they play it correctly. And the generalization that instruments are NEVER animated correctly just boils my blood. Maybe instead of just pointing it out, how about you go ahead and animate them correctly yourself. Then you would see why animators choose to simplify their work.
because they make the videos for fun and content
I watched animated movies or series just for fun, but I didn't noticed the inaccuracies of playing the music when the characters play the piano just until some random Internet musicians started to point out. I thought it's entertaining and interesting at first, but now, I feel like the kind of content is everywhere now. I'm not angry, just slightly annoyed but it's worth it. To everyone in here saying it's too difficult/time consuming/unnecessary to animate instruments correctly, I disagree. It's so awesome seeing EMC get some attention in meme culture - I've watching his videos for a super long time now!
But it's not like an animator gets paid extra for doing that. Why waste your time on a tiny detail like that when you could spend your time on other more important things. I understand why it's a big deal for movies like sing, where the whole premise revolves around music. But I don't think its worth it for other cartoons and animations.

Well in some shows, usually dramas, they can be boring as sin but get huge acclaim from critics and audiences simply because they put in the effort to animate an instrument correctly.
This is one of the thing that us animators can let it slide.
But if they are animated correctly, can bring so much life to an animation.
This is probably gonna start a war between animators and musicians
This should be in Lessons in the Internet Culture, I don't think this is a meme
