- After exploring Bandarawela town with the scooter, next, I moved to the town called Haputale. As part of the exploration, I did little shopping in the bazaar, talk to the locals, and even get invited to the lunch in the family.
After the shopping part, I realized how many locals chewing some plants, and I was really curious about it so I gave it a try. Did I like it? Did I feel anything? You need to see the video to find out :)

It's called eating betel nuts, it's like smoking some cigarettes, it's a habit, it's really not wise to eat too much, and it's not good for your teeth either. Some people get drunk when they eat betel nut, betel nut and lime should be chewed together and spit, only if the saliva is swallowed will they get drunk. It is better to make the mouth red and the teeth black.
Luckily they didn’t add dried tobacco leaves. Normally people chew betel quid adding betel leaves, areca nut, slaked lime (calcium hydroxide paste) and dried tobacco leaves.
Betel chewing now remains mainly a habit of the elderly in rural areas.
Extended use causes mouth cancer

@@alihazari7494 Extended use with too much Lime and Tobacco leaves may lead to mouth cancer. But no harm from Betel and Areca nut and small amount of Lime.
and if you keep it in your mouth about 10 minutes it will give you a lil buzz..
People are used to chew betel and areca nut like you chew gum.
You are a kind and nice man Davud. Now most of the Sri Lankans like myself have addicted to see the next video. What you ate is a traditional bite eaten after meals. When visiting people after a tea,breakfast lunch or dinner we offer them. It's mostly used in urban areas. Beatle leaves,arecanut,lime and dried and processed tobacco leaves are added. Don't eat this again as you are not used to it.It is just like smoking and using chewing gum.

You ate a betel leaf with a piece of arecanut. But some other foods that should be eaten with tea are cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, flakes, coriander, arecanut. These spices are also effective medicines for various ailments. The betel leaf created in this way can be identified as Saravita. In the past, eating this betel leaf minimized the oral diseases of the aborigines. Ginger slices and cardamom seeds grown in the garden, but today the traditional betel nut is gradually changing.

9:13 that aunty said “Poitu va pa” means go safely and do come back safely. Is very nice to see you and my Sri Lankan. And that thing u eat is very bad for your health and tooth (13:15). And the store owner try to cheat you and other guy said he has camera 🎥 and he will put it that u took 100 rupees for paaku. It was bad of them but u was very kind

The market you went that is a Haputale public fair. It’s held on two days of one week. Fully Crowded. Other days only usual shops like you sawed

Chew the betel quid (with other ingredients) for some time and spit red saliva. After sometime doing that, throw away the entire chew/ pulp and wash ur mouth. That areca nut ( betel nut) makes you high. Another ingredient is dry tobacco, luckily they didn't give it to you which makes you severely high.
Haha I remember the street and market in the beginning of the video from I believe it was one of Harold's videos. When he visited it was packed tho so it seems u went at a more calm n decent time of yr.

Hi Dave Haputale is my favorite town in Sri Lanka. There are few places you can visit around Haputale. Adisham bungalow. Lipton ceat view. If you take the train you can go to see beautiful World's end view.

I love all your videos. I have been binging them for weeks now starting with Uzbekistan. It’s so funny when he says certain English words like Veggies he says Wedgies. Or he pronounces fruit like Fru-it when it’s more like the word scoot or boot. But I also noticed all these shops he goes to they all pronounce Nike the same way as Davud as well. Must be an overseas thing cuz it’s pronounced Ny-key.

What you ate is called Arriconut with a Beetle leaf. It is a substitute for Cigarette Smoking and Tobacco Chewing. It is addictive.

Davud. What you ate was betel. It’s basically chewing tobacco that people use to chew periodically. What you had was just betel, Areca nut and some limestone powder. So there wasn’t any tobacco

Bro,when you eat bulath wita you dont swallow it .you just chew it for around 30 minutes and spit it out and other vise u can have litle bit of a hipe as well.

It is a kinda side drug if you eat with" Dunkola " dry tobacco leaf and chew it for sometime you get a bit high but if you eat and swollen that thing with dry tobacco leaf you will probably vomiting....
