What is Supersymmetry?

  • In this video, Fermilab's Dr. Don Lincoln describes the principle of supersymmetry in an easy-to-understand way. A theory is supersymmetric if it treats forces and matter on an equal footing. While supersymmetry is an unproven idea, it is popular with particle physics researchers as a possible next step in particle physics.

It seems like years ago I read something about either symmetry or supersymmetry that proposed that sub-atomic particles were all actually one one particle that just appeared different depending on what energy it had. Is this indeed a characteristic to some degree of supersymmetry?

Yes. Force carrying particles can interact with each other. For example, one of the particles that mediates the weak force is the W+ boson. Because the W+ boson has a charge of +1, it is affected by the electromagnetic force (the photon), even though it is a force particle itself. There are also many more examples like this.

Mass does not play by normal mathematical rules. We might use 2*2=4, but Mass has the ability to double in effect when multiplied . 2*2=8.A chain reaction seen by a run away gravitational well. But by symmetric rule, is weakened when divided. 8/2=2. Because of this, the amount of energy needed to satisfy the effect of mass is gigantic in nature.
Or in this case squared. E=MC^2

Do we necesarily need the existence of the super simmetric particles? Is it possible that they are the same particles that behaves different under different conditions? i.e. I am thinking on electron pairs behaving as bosons in superconducting materials. Or may be they somehow convert into its suppersimetric particle. And may be that is the reason why they don't appear in accelerator collisions. That may not be the right condition for them to appear. High energy itself may be the condition that breaks the simmetry.

Is there a chance to the detect the gravitonino being heavier and then have some certainty super symmetric particles may exist? Can an estimated mass of the gravitonino be calculated? It creates so much confusion for the scientifically illiterate/uninformed (not an insult, just an observation/my opinion).
Anyway, I just had to vent that. I appreciate the videos y'all make and the education they help me attain/round off.

Perhaps early in the universe during inflation the broken symmetry DID produce a positron, but it when through a phase transition and converted back into an energy field INSIDE of spacetime causing what we call dark matter. Like Hawking Radiation once energy converted to electrons and positrons the matched pairs instead of inhalating, the positron somehow was transferred into spacetime causing it to hit its elasticity yield point. So the electrons went on to make matter and the positrons went on to make potential energy in the form of an "empty" gravitation field-dark matter...

are you assuming the gravitational force has a DC offset? :P

In particular, a supersymmetric partner of a fermion is a boson, and vice versa.

can you have force without matter?

Antimater is something different. The way antimatter interacts with matter dictates more the behavior of subatomic particles rather than gravitational force. Antimatter is easily destroyed by matter and creates more matter, plus energy. Tha supercolliders essentially smash atomic/subatomic particles together at a high speed (thinking in terms of energy and mass, more energy will generate a different/larger mass) to create different matter (antimatter). They try to hold it in an electromagnetic field then discharge it, measuring what subatomic particles/charges are generated.

The ancient Greeks were familiar with this theory, as were Kabbalists, hence; In Plato's cosmology he declares three simple components, Same, Different and Existence. In Kabbalah, the Tree of Life declares the Cosmos to be composed of Form, equilibrium and Force. In other words Matter, equilibrium, Energy, which is super symmetry. Now - how did they come up with this so far in our history??
Equilibrium is the 'Operator' and Force and form are the 'Products'; the only two possible states of matter and energy which are always in relative equilibrium; whether in the state of nucleosynthesis or Decay (Fusion or Fission). My mathematical terminology may not be quite correct but the theorem is.
