My favourite comment I ever say on Nyango was
"The drummer is on drugs! look at his eyes!!"
This shit is hilarious! I seen this about a year ago and went in a Nyango Star binge! He is a cat who died and was reincarnated as an apple. In order to become a cat again he needs to become famous and make it to the United States. Or at least that's the story I read. There's also a video of him at an expo doing a song with the guitarist for the death metal band Sinsaenum. That guitarist is also the bass player for the band Dragonforce.

Many might think Nyango Star is a sort of joke, but it's very serious.
This is from a Reddit comment: "Please know that Nyango star is a yuru-chara mascot from Japan representing Aomori prefecture that's part of the Tohoku-region which was devastated by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in March 11th, 2011. So, anytime Nyango star makes public appearances it is to promote the region and help it recover from the tragedy. It isn't drumming for its personal gain but for its beloved home."
yura-chara mascot means unofficial mascot I believe, basically amateur/volunteer.
The region Nyango Star plays for is an apples producing region. Nyango's name is actually a reference to 3 things: Ringo Star, 'ringo' which means apple and 'nyan' which in Japan is the "sound a cat makes", like meow in English. From the Nayngo home page we know: Nyango Star is a cat reborn as an apple. Nynago Star when it was a cat after death was burried in an apple orchard and Nango's spirit ended up in an apple. The scar on the face is actually from falling down from the tree.
Ohh and Vice made a video on him as well which confirms it.
Nyango is known the children songs overplaying/metal covers and doing regular covers of famous metal/rock bands.
Nyango also does collaborations with other artists and other things for promotions. These days also pretty famous in Japan. A band of metal playing mascots exists which Nyango Star is the drummer: charamel (character metal)

@@autohmae Hello. I agree, Nyango Star and his drumming are not a joke. He is obviously a serious professional. Indeed, all yuru-chara deserve respect for their activities.
I think that reddit post quote may be wrong about the meaning of "yuru-chara". From what I read yuru-chara means "laid-back", or "chill", or "background" character. This is why all yuru-chara who officially represent and promote any entity are not allowed to speak themselves and are always accompanied by a "handler", a sort of assistant, who speaks for them.
On the other hand, for example, Funassyi is free to speak and sing and scream unrestricted because Funassyi is independent and does not officially represent any entity (even through Funassyi really wanted to be the official yuru-chara of its home city of Funabashi).
I guess the rules of conduct for official yuru-chara are supposed to keep them on their best behavior, but that doesn't stop unofficial, independent mascots, like Chiitan, from going off the rails in international infamy.
And I've recently seen some new talking mascots which means either the rules are being loosened or more independent mascots are following in Funassyi's trail.
The mascot character is male and in a band of other mascots, but the person inside is a woman and also in her own metal band.
Fun fact, in his concerts, this song is his play time, he always improvises the craziness, it's always different. So... he's a virtuoso. In a red suit. Anonymous, toiling for a greater good than personal fame. Isn't that inspiring?

Akatsuki is kind of like a tribute to an X-Japan song called Kurenai. Nyango Star has obviously also performed that.
Nyango Star even got to perform the song in front of the Yoshiki, the drummer, pianist and song writer of X-Japan.
Obviously you need to react to the originals first before watching (probably reacting) the Nyango Star videos.

If I may, I'd like to offer some context. This is not technically a "childrens concert", although, everyone is welcome at Nyango Star shows. Nyango Star is a beloved and quite famous entertainer of people of all ages in Japan. And this is not a random outburst. This is all meticulously planned and rehearsed. Nyango Star takes drumming very seriously. This is why the person in the background in the video is not freaked out when Nyango Star goes off.
Nyango Star is also a member of a Character Metal band called CHARAMEL, with lead singer Funassyi, and Akkuma on guitar and Kapal on bass. All band members are mascots. Funassyi is a 1,881 year old genderless pear fairy who loves to sing metal music. Akkuma is a lazy evil alien boy bear, and Kapal is a kappa water goblin.
I highly recommend you check out Charamel the band. They are very entertaining. It's like, imagine if there was such a thing as Disney-metal. Or Chuck-e-cheese-metal (or whatever kids are into now... I don't know... Barney, Sesame Street, ?). Like if those loveable, cute, beloved characters played serious but fun metal music. There really is no equivalent to CHARAMEL that I can think of, they are a uniquely Japanese thing.
