First boot, I don't have any issue waiting even 6 minutes if I know in advance thats what is to be expected. As for intel, they should stop talking about what their gpus can do and actually make and release GPUs. Let reviewers test it themselves because saying their gpu b is better than gpu c from another manufacturer is kind of ridiculous at this point. Everyone that I've seen test their gpus report them being buggy and unreliable.
no they say the SOFTWARE is buggy and unrealiable ... so if you dont want to overclock them you can pretty much plug and play ( at least with the drivers that came start of august or newer)
If you're overclocking memory this will be a complete headache as you'll have to wait forever any time you crash or reset CMOS
@@weasle2904 yessss, for the .00000000001% of pc users that are memory overclockers (xmp/docp I assume you're not talking about) out there
Waiting for DDR5 ram to come down in price before upgrading my 5900
Usually not a good sign by a company that has to sell this hard for their product with out releasing it.
Even the names for my master's thesis revisions and backups made more sense than the USB version numbering.
If it is a one time thing, so what? It is part of setting up the system. So, so what? I'm glad they've gone through the trouble to make this work correctly.
Except it's also every time you bork your overclock.
@@Saieden Power outage should be another Factor here. Or if you take the Power away from the PC for a longer Time it also will restart the whole System (sometimes).
Can we agree that Intel's Alchemist is DOA and get on with Battlemage? We can really use a 3rd GPU competitor, but Intel's rollout has been beyond pathetic. Intel needs to learn from this disaster and do better in the future.
it was maybe 15% worse than it needed to be -- to crack into the Market -- it will be big in places such as India
@@MrSatnavatron - I can agree with this, just as long as it is priced accordingly. The spotty drivers will make it difficult to sell in North America, Europe or Australia.
I have a couple ASRock B550 boards and they always take forever to boot up if I make any BIOS changes or clear the CMOS. I wonder if this is an ASRock specific issue.
I have an ASRock B550AC that takes its' sweet time booting up from cold, but also a B550M pro rig that is quite snappy, so idk.
If the wait is one time only and I know it will happen beforehand I would wait. If I didn't know that I had to wait I would RMAing that board for sure
What's the thing with resizable bar and needing a very modern system? Cause I just bought a used I7 8700K + Gigabyte Aorus Elite Z390 and they are pretty old by now and have resizable BAR + 4G decoding...
Depends....
For first train of memory im not afraid of those times. You still can do alot of things on the sídle while waiting. But it must be somehow told by mobo it doing this training test.
It says after clearing the CMOS _not_ every time
there should really be a "memory training in progress, please wait" screen on first boot. I don't even care about a progress bar, just a screen is enough.
I dont get it
So when you first time turn on pc with new motherboard there might be delay ?
Is it like that with every mobo ?
Im really curious 👀
Aside from cost, are there any disadvantages to running 2x32gb versus just 2x16gb RAM?
Depends on a few things, platform mainly. Can't speak to ryzen/ddr5 just yet obviously, even when it's released to the public it'll still be a while before people start aggregating findings. Ryzen/ddr4 seems to show better speeds in 4x(insert ram value) configurations, and Intel, whether ddr4 or 5, seems to prefer a couple of dimms stay unpopulated, especially for overclocking. There are some specific eccentricities but generally this is a good rule to go by. The amount of RAM generally isn't a big thing either way, it really only factors in with what the use case is.
Regarding the 1st boot delema --- a $1 internal buzzer is what you need. Super cheap audible notification during boot. ok...maybe i am old school, but hearing that beep. .... yup, an easy upgrade that actually helps.
Now the question is... do you upgrade to Zen 4 or take a performance hit and benefit in the bank balance and PSU budget as well?
i think the screen needs to come on and have a little counter that will tell folks the memory is training and they need to wait xx seconds, yeah that might be harder on the bios, but realistically all you need it to boot the memory just enough to get the screen on and you can display a static image then run the training sequence. my limit with out warning ahead of time is under 30 seconds, i recall multiple boot cycles being the norm until someone said, hey the boot time is gona take a few minutes, just walk away and wait.
I'm sure ASRock could have optimized the memory training better but it's only the first boot so not a huge issue.
It's not even new. When I first booted my AM4 boards (MSI, ASRock, Asus) the machine took nearly a minute to setup everything and whenever I changed the config it would do that all over again. Once it's done then the machine boots up its usual quick self.
@@NightMotorcyclist exactly. I remember my am4 (Asus) system took a minute or so to boot first. At no point, I was panicking as it was clear that something was being set up.
Edit: besides, most people aren't getting 256 GB of ram. Someone who needs that and building themselves should know a thing or two.
As long as that time duration is marked somewhere on the product I wouldn’t mind. If it isn’t marked then yeah absolutely I’d be pissed
I gotta ask Brett, we lose a little spit at the 3:54 mark?
Hot news is the highlight of every morning! It’s a must watch, either on CZcams or Spotify
love hot news only found it a couple of months ago but love the content
Literally, whenever there’s no upload I’m bummed for the day lol
I'd just like to know how that discussion from some tech guy at AMD informing the higher ups or the sales teams: "Uhhhh.... yeah... so there's this little detail the user might want to know. The first boot could take 7 minutes. See ya!"
I build more than one threadripper system. Memory training is something ik and expect. If uk beforehand it happens and time frame what's the big deal? Tho it should be then as cover on ram slots itself so more people have chance of seeing that as u need to take it out before even plugging sticks
I think the USB commission is just trolling the world
Just only the first boot? not all the time right?
TEE EYE! TEE EYE! TEE EYE! TEE EYE! TEE EYE!
i remember my very first build with ryzen 7, b350m bazooka
it boots up to bios for like freaking 10 mins iirc
1:50 What if i have 4x64GB sticks? 800 seconds? (64GB: the maximum supported by non-server DDR5)
For the long boots the longest I’ve ever put up with was around half an hour.
However that was to get into windows, for just bios I can tolerate about 10 minutes before I retry.
Honestly, after 3 minutes I’d start getting pretty worried and try again.
I get the feeling that they might start pushing GDDR7 some time soon for the GPU.
nah that’s like 2 years away
At least they tell you how much to wait, no big deal
The problem is the ddr5 memory jayz2cents complain about the same issue some time ago with an intel cpu with ddr5
6 minutes to train? What does DDR5 run a mile or something?
They should like put a big paper in the box on top with first boot takes 7 minutes. I do not really find that a problem. You do not have often a first boot
I am still exited to see what intel gpus have to offer. Will be getting one to test out av1 and streaming, its not going to be for everyone, and i think thats ok.
im excited too keep me informed
6 minutes is really just a drop in the bucket of the whole PC build, but I get how nerve wracking that can be. They just need to put huge red stickers all over that say "Memory training may take 10 minutes, don't freak out" My buddy rebuilt his work PC and I could see the anguish on his face when it didn't boot after a minute, which felt like forever, so he powered it down to try a different monitor. Right as I said "Maybe it's just training the new ram" everything lit up, and it looked like the weight of the world lifted off his shoulders. When I first booted my recent build, I had a smoke ready and immediately went outside after I pushed the button lol.
one time a long boot then sleepmode to boot instantly..., i could live with that..
OMG that ProZD bit killed me
Back in ancient PC history. There were memory modules made for main frames (servers) that tested test the RAM and locked out the failed areas.
Same thing?
I have thunderbolt 4 on my amd and everything is so expensive for it right now
what windows ver does asrock use for boot test?
What :o This happens before any OS of any kind is loaded.! This will happen with zero storage devices attached.!!! Please look up BIOS/UEFI, have a nice day.
Since when is October 3rd the middle to end of October?!?!?!? Gee, I didn't know just 3 days would take that long.
I'm used to 3rd gen threadripper taking at minimum 30 seconds to POST without memory training, so 6 minutes of memory training on 64GB sounds pretty normal to me, not like I don't run the system on a 12-24 hour memory test cycle anyway before installing the OS ( always worth doing ).
Taking over 6 minutes to come on is a long time. That's crazy
I mean servers spend a substantial amount of time training memory. Though a lot of server vendors (well, maybe not _x86_ servers) give you serial output to show it training. I know that was definitely the case for SPARC.
i just imagnine my self in front of a rack with my stuff ducked into and getting a heart attack for 6,5min straigth wating for SOMETHING to happen without video out......biiiig yikes xD
and yes servers usualy do give you SOMETHING even if its only a few dots and no text...
8:22 You should add credits to prozd for the small skit, that can be an entire video from him
The human eye cant' even see more than USB 3.2
I too eat spaghetti out of a zip lock bag 👌
It is version 2.0 of the USB 4 specification. That is not the same as the version of USB 4. Specs are evolving documents that are versioned by itself. Adding clarification or an optional feature means a bump in the spec document… two things that should not be confused. They added the option of active cables with up to 80GB/s if a controller supports it. Even 40GB/s is not guaranteed on a USB 4 port.
Should have named it “USB 4.1”
Or “USB 4.1 80Gb/s”
@@JAT985 Why? A USB 4 port must only support 20Gbit/s, even 40Gbit/s is optional. Now 80Gbit/s is optional too.
We don't need to argue that the USB standard is a mess, but this whole discussion around the spec bump is meaningless.
Intel GPUs do not look bad on paper and price. They need to work on their drivers and they might have a fighting chance even with the requirement of resizable bar.
Fun Fact In Cambodia they love the iphone... You can even buy one on teh edge of jungle... Don't believe me? Saw it myself when I was there two years ago.. Saw going from Phenom Phen to Siam Reap and the bus I was on pulled over by the side of the jungle and a Lady who had got on 3 or 4 miles down teh road pulled out a stack of a couple dozen Iphones got off and started handing them off to several dudes who were coming out of the jungle... Travel people you will see some cool stuff
Intel a380 sold out almost immediately when offered at 139.99 on Newegg
Paper launch.
we will not know for some time, how many they sold. I'm sure there are enough people wanting to look at AV1 hardware encode that a 140 price point is extremely attractive. The question will be if people want to buy them after the first wave, especially once we get NVidia and AMD next gen full announcements.
Intel GPU might be good for video encoding and streaming.
no no keep the long boot then i can get some coffee while the pc is booting XD
My laptop : I take 10 minutes every time
M4 still looks good for me, and M5 I will be check it out in a year or 2
im checking out M5 when ddr5 has become the norm and the cpu architecture has matured a bit. Surely going to be some kinks to iron out with the first-run hardware
Those boot times remind me of the xeon server I recently sold with 128GB of ECC RAM 🤣 if the performance is good enough I wouldn't care about the first boot up boot times 😂🤷
WEB BROWSERS...... need the RESIZABLE BAR enhancement.
If its first boot for memory training then i have no issue with it taking a while.
I will not have an issue if it helps stabilize the system. Intel is a dumpster fire.
im sure the fan off a 3090 would be enought to propel it
USB Version 4 Version 2. Next month, there'll be an upgrade, called USB Version 4 Version 2 Point 1. Simple, no? What? Thunderbolt? Same plug? Confused? Remember the 19 different plugs used for this "universal" serial bus? Why are you surprised?
At this point, I don't care how many new versions of USB we get as long as they stop retconning the current ones.
maybe i'm missing something but why is everyone freaking out about the 6 minutes thing? its only for the first boot after clearing CMOS, who is clearing their CMOS regularly?? i've cleared CMOS maybe twice across all 3 desktop mobos ive owned in the past decade
i just hope that intel stick with it, we could do with another player in town..
Intel can get a decent part of the GPU market if the price it correctly. If they can come up with a card like a 3060, but with a 1060 price. Then at least that would be a great start for them. They don't need to concentrate on High end GPUs.
Most people get iPhone for image
Server hardware takes forever to boot as well. If you have a bunch of RAM, HBA's, network cards, etc. you might as well start it and go get a cup of coffee 🙂
3:53 i won't wait for your spit to land that's for sure! JK!✌️
The X670E motherboards should advise the builder to go do a number two while the PC is trying to POST.
I don’t need a new PC, but these new motherboards have a huge amount of fast USB ports.
after clearing cmos
6-7 mins boot time is fine by me since I'm used to the 10 min boot time on my current laptop 😌😌
F*ck the naming convention.
I'm just calling it NyanB80/NyanB120 and NyanB5/10/20 respectively.
NyanB for "Nyan of that naming BS", and 80 for bitrate.
intel GPUs coming soon (TM)
it's just for the first boot......
I won't have 128GB of RAM so 6 minutes isn't an issue and I won't be clearing my CMOS with any frequency so I am not concerned about that.
USB 4 2.0 ..... Nice
usb 4.21 af (tybe b) mini..... trust me, it'll be there :p
NVidia RTX 4080 has 12 GB of vram?? Hmmm. So does the 3080 Ti.
okay, 7 minutes on first ever boot. ill just make a sandwich or watch a youtube video like this one. not a huge problem at all, long as it isnt recurring.
A big problem with Intel's GPUs is they can't even compete with the used market for AMD and Nvidia. And with the new generation GPUs around the corner, they would have to compete with a new influx of used GPUs that easily outclass Arc for not much more money. They needed to come out during the shortage, or come out swinging after the shortage. Instead, they showed up with a toothpick rather than a baseball bat.
They could call those 4090 ti GPUs the Linda Lovelace model. Because it deep throats your wallet.
@@warrenpuckett4203 A 4090 ti is for people who don't care about the price and want the 'best'.
USB thing is weird.... because there are two very differing and conflicting concerns. One concern is to communicate to the consumer about the capabilities, the other is to communicate on the engineering end what and HOW things are done. The reason why USB 4 version 2 is VERISON 2, its because its almost entirely a firmware, driver and software update in the implementation of the protocol. So if manufacturers are smart enough, they just will push an update, and it will work. Unlike the differences in the USB 3 end, which were ENTIRELY on the physical end (primarily due to manufacturers finding loopholes to cheat the system and upsell)
The bios time really needs to improve, the day and age of old load checks are over now they developed EPROM boots it should be as fast as tablet times part it’s not as if they are emc memory that’s way to long hopefully a day 1 bios update appear to load that up way to long
They hired a "bill gates wanna be" apparently to get these motherboards "up and running".
By the looks of it, this protégé is going to FAR EXCEED anything that bill has thus far done.
(Including the "bill wants us to eat bugs... and 'BEE HAPPY' ".)
I've seen weird shit so I tend to leave a PC on black for 30-45 minutes before I assume something is wrong these days. Of course my building experience goes back to the early 90's, a notorious era for everything being slow lol.
AM5 boards are just server grade, lol
watch out, that sounds like marketing speak.
in this day and age shoudlt nasa have the capabillity to launch shit from the iss????
If those numbers come from Apple I would take that with a grain of salt, they use all their devices sold, from day one to current in their marketing information.
Oh, nice to know that Intel's still making gpu's
Maybe if NASA hadn't built a rocket with bits from the used parts bin, it might have less issues.
Big Draw back of zen4 is it doesn't support DDR4 only people who know how to Tune PC can understand what I'm saying
i actually like this feature of mobo training, but there should be a bypass... think about all these overclockers that need to reset their mobo all the time...ouch....
not really a bios issue, servers been doing this for ages. you want fancy ddr5 shit, it needs to be pampered.
Thats just a first boot not really a big deal is it 🙄
Why is Ethereum rising... 🤬
The 3090 Super looks fake IMO.
No more Asrock for me anyway.
it would be really cool if that memory training happened as an option in the bios, take all the effort out of decent timings. much like auto OC could be great some day.
People who don't know how to overclock really shouldn't be doing it . Anytime I have ever tried using software to do it - something fried - usually a ram stick
The problem for intel is there bottom end is already out of touch with current gen let alone pending models from the leaders but now they can’t get it good enough to complete with 3070 the starting point for many gamers then intel have dropped the ball completely this is so far out of date even saying 18 months late due to covid it still would have been a just able to compete but now it’s s no sale the only people going to buy it are oems on entry level and nas supplier’s it’s no wonder why economists are calling for intel to stop making them. I’m willing to give intel a years but unless they meet 3080ti levels and 3090 on the industrial model on everything including dx11 dx10 support then it will be another year in thf red and the graphical division will be shut down
If you keep on calling it Tie, I might be forced to unsubscribe... I know nVidia call it that, but that's no excuse for you to do it Brett!
Current Gen Intel GPU are long dead, 2 years of delays killed it. It will be on the market to compete with GPUs with allegedly double performance. 🤷🏽♂️
How crazy would it be if Intel was going the “under promise, over deliver” route and they end up being RTX 3070 killers 😂
🤣😂
If A380 is any indication, it will be priced appropriately. A380 is the #1 cheapest GPU and the #1 worst GPU. See, appropriate! Since it will be priced appropriately, all that's left to decide is if you want the Intel or a non-Intel with similar price and performance.
I will not be able to participate in watching your live stream, sir. I hope your cannon ball goes well, your family is doing well, and you overlord Linus is lenient and good to you.
Man, I wanted to attempt to win that Ayaneo. Oh well, better luck next year. :)
