    What was amazing too was the Butch Soper, who usually bowled best on tougher conditions, qualified #2 with a 232 average that week on a high scoring condition. Walter Ray set a record that week with a 238 average. Among the others it shocks me to this day that Hromek only won 3 titles.

    Did it take place during Christmas? WOW! "Both" tried to give the championship away "twice"! In the end WRW succeeded, lol! Entertaining. Thanks for posting!

      John McDevitt
      I remember seeing that live, and being absolutely stunned. Not only did he miss - he wasn't even close.
      Then again, Butch missed a spare by about an arrow a few frames later - and he's a pretty accurate guy. So it was a pretty wild match all around.

    • @vanni9283
      @vanni9283 Před 10 lety +1

      Butch missed that spare because the ball slipped out of his hand. So I'll give Butch a pass on that one. But a COMPLETE whiff by WRW on a multi-pin spare is something you'll only see like once every 1,000 years...LOL!

      @danielschrafel3158 Před 10 lety

      John McDevitt Agreed. He was having a very hard time hanging onto that spare ball. But imagine that - the deadly-accurate, down-and-in guy won the title by covering up the wild shots with a big string of strikes.
