    Love the outfit and hair. Love the accent. You are proof that women can remain feminine while living a physically & mentally challenging life. Nothing like the love and loyalty of a dog.

      Well thank you kindly Tanya! I do love my dresses so much more than pants!! It's the pioneer life I am longing for! But with electricity! The love and pure loyalty of a dog is unlike any relationship anyone can have! I would risk my life easily for Kenai! Thank you so much Tanya!

    That far north, I’m not surprised that strange lights could be pretty normal. On my recent cruise to Iceland, there were lights up near the Arctic Circle of a kind I’d never seen before.

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  Před 2 lety +1

      The orbs I see in the trees look like fireflies only much slower. Since fireflies do not live in Alaska (not the kind that light up) and the orbs I see are in winter only (so far) they are actually soothing to watch. Also they seem to be very far away. The orbs do not scare me though.

    And oh my goodness! Kenai at 19:25 - I loved it! Animals really are the most incredible companions. I am glad you have Kenai!

      Sometimes I feel bad about it because its just human nature to want to know someone's name. But then again, everyone calls Dwayne Johnson "The Rock". So a few nicknames have emerged for me! At that point in the video, Kenai was not aware that I was recording him! I have to trick him to get a recording! He is such a great companion! I will be bringing up your channel Nance! I listen to all your videos when I am cleaning or just sitting back after the day. LOVE your channel! I am just waiting to get a good cleaning in after all the construction is done so I can film it! I think I will be diving into the backlog of your videos for sure! Thank you so much Nance!

    Hello Alone in remote Alaska. Yes,traveling to Alaska is tiring and lengthy.some family members enjoyed a float fishing trip out of a lodge and they were worn out traveling that far,from Pa.their fishing was great though,as they usually caught near 100 sockeye per day.if you are near enough to the fall fish runs that will be satisfying. Enjoy

      The other day I was relaxing outside in the shade. Kenai was laying in the grassy area and a ground squirrel came running around the corner of the cabin (on the ground) and they both scared each other and ran the opposite way. Kenai came running to me and almost climbed up on my lap! What a great watch dog!! LOL! Thank you so much!

    I feel animals live in a parallel universe, Kenai is a good example . Although non verbal, they do have a sense to protect, know when to intervene, and is camera shy (he knows)
    Thanks for sharing more of yourself . Looking forward to parts 2 & 3

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska

      Sometimes I can just be thinking to give Kenai a treat. Just typing away on my computer and say to myself, time for a break. Kenai will know. Within 15 seconds of me getting up, he has run back and forth to the treat container. He is such a great protector though. Even in Colorado when my kids and I would get rowdy and laugh and joke, Kenai would always press up against me and sometimes block me from my kids who were just laughing loudly. The non verbal communication is real! Thank you so much Doctorjoey3!

    The part where you 'revealed' your name was funny! 😂
    4 months snowed in is a really long time! I probably would have went bonkers! 😆
    My Dad was always a fan of John Deere tractors, he has/had several. (Dad has since passed) There has been an issue with John Deere and right to repair lawsuits in recent years. I really don't know much about it and maybe it is an issue with other manufacturers besides John Deere but may be something to research before buying. I know a lot of farmers in my area were really upset about it but I don't know many details beyond the obvious limitations and cost of being not able to make your own repairs.
    Looking forward to your next video.
    Tiff

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  Před 2 lety

      You know I cant figure what happened with that part of the video! 4 months snowed in was awesome actually. I could have done another 4! It really was something I had prepared for. I know what you are talking about on the "right to repair" thing with JD. I was not concerned (but probably should be) because I cant do my own repairs on a tractor anyway. But I do have a problem with it being the only way! That just doesn't seem very American. Same with the issue with the software on the ECU's but that's like a computer that cant run without an operating system. Who really owns the computer then! I wonder if Kubota does that? 🤨 Thank you so much Tiff! Fantastic info!

    ❤ Loving Part 1 of 3, Especially about Kenai and his hilarity. It struck a cord with me. My Coonhound Mylo was quite a character as well, not to mention - an awesome protector and guard dog. He lived to be 14+ years, but sadly, he passed away in March 2020. He also had a ton of nicknames, pretty much to satisfy his ever changing and hilarious dog personify. I love to watch you with Kenai, as it brings back live, fond memories for me of my goofy baby dog.
    We got him at 8 weeks old from a Feed & Grain Company in Northern Ontario after seeing his profile on the internet. I miss him every day, so seeing you with Kenai let's me know that Mylo IS alive in my heart forever. Thanks Alone for those memories. ✌️❤️🙂. 🐾🐾😇🐾🐾

    Glad you are ok...
    I don't know if I am an introvert or not...I know I can not deal with groups of people not even family, I can spend long periods of time by myself, and I prefer animals over people anytime 😊.
    Have you thought about a small solar panel combined with a small wind turbine for the cabin? Nothing major just enough to charge a few batteries Incase you loose the grid for several days... It would be able to power your freezers and keep your food supply safe...
    Also sense you have the basement and the new entry for it inside the cabin have you thought about a small water tank and a haul water in with a trailer then you would not have to drive for water as much in the spring, summer, fall...
    Lol... I know..shut up...
    Ok... I will just have to wait.... 😭
    Be safe..
    Have fun..
    Enjoy..

      Hey Charles! Dewey was definitely a strange encounter! I'm thinking by what you said that you are definitely an introvert! Many levels of introvert so welcome to the club! We don't have jackets because the introvert club doesn't have any get togethers for some reason?? Solar and wind will definitely happen on the property but I don't think it will be my main source of power. More of a backup. I have much research to do on the subject first. And the root cellar will store water for sure in winter. The less amount of snow melting I have to do the better! It's not stealing recipes Charles! It's all meant to be shared! I think. If not, I steal recipes too then! Thank you so much Charles!

Every comment to me is like a conversation. I noticed that I do not see the orbs in summer. Only winter so far but I have to have time to look too. Lately I have gone to bed so exhausted that I literally think I am sleeping on my way down to my pillow! And I definitely feel blessed living here. @@AloneinRemoteAlaska Good Evening,
      I agree with you on the service. I wouldn't recommend LS for you as I was shopping price and am able to work on it tho you wouldn't want to be in ear shot lol.
      Ok for your tractor I would look at your Deere and maybe Kubota. ESI (Kubota) has a service dept also. Now about what to look for.
      A cab tractor if you can afford it. Heat and ac is mighty nice as well as an escape from the bugs.
      Do you want a backhoe? If so make dang sure it is frame mounted and NOT mounted to you 3 pt. Dig depth is important too get one that digs at least 96". I would not recommend a belly mower rather a brush cutter mounts to your 3 pt. Also a box blade that help move dirt and level ground.
      Lastly get the biggest tractor you can afford. I personally for your application would recommend 40hp+. Also when you get ready let me know and I will advise you on heaters and fuel so it will run/start at -40.

      @@AloneinRemoteAlaska oh yeah a couple of other things. I assume you will want a hydrostatic trans ( push Togo forward or reverse) clutch type has more pulling power because of gear choice but cold is hard on the clutch and you leg. Also on the hydrostat look for 2 levers side by side to push as opposed to the heal&toe type ( motorcycle type shifter) your leg and calf will get sore in plowing snow from all the forward and reverse. Also make sure your rear brakes are split so you can break each rear wheel independent of one another. There will also be a bar that will allow both break pedals to be locked together.

    Although a tractor would have many uses, another option for snowplow is buying a 1990ish F250 gas engine PU and throw a plow in it. My HOA bought such a pickup w/plow for a few thousand and keep it as a single use vehicle, going on 10 years now. The F250 diesel are the PU that sell for high dollar, so the gas F250 360 V-8 are there for the picking…just an idea…

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  Před 2 lety

      Ahhhh thank you kindly Michael! I have tossed around the idea of purchasing a "beater with a heater" and a snow plow. When I have looked (recently) everyone was asking 1/2 the cost of a new tractor! Maybe not a top of the line John Deere but still. At least with a tractor I can also do some of the heavy gardening work too. Heck in my neck of the woods it wouldn't even be strange to drive a tractor to town! I am keeping my options open since a tractor is really expensive. I have seen many trucks with plows on them abandoned. I think they get to a point where they are beyond repair or rescue! Thank you so much Michael!

    This is really great that you did a Q&A I’ve been questioning and thinking certain things about your life for a bit here. I think you’ve been reading my comments because you’re still a new channel and reading a lot of our comments. And I did what you did three years ago I’m coming up on my third year in September however I did not go as far remote as you did by a long shot. But I’m in a remote part of Oregon on the coast. I was surprise you didn’t mention Oregon because Oregon is actually one of the more rural states to live in and it’s much more country than people realize. There’s just a few bigger cities but other than that most of it is farm and country people.
    So a couple quick questions cause I’m gonna watch all your q&a today which are so great!!
    I was wondering where you take your trash we take ours down to a dump
    a lot of people here of course burn. It’s difficult now with climate change now they have a certain time of the year they’re allowed to burn but I’m not a fan of it because you know a fire can start but that’s what they do out here in the country.
    Also I was wondering if you’re worried about getting to the closest veterinarian if anything happened to your dog. I have two dogs now. Like you I came here with my black pitbull who was 12 at the time and then he developed lymphoma which was so devastating I watched him die out here it was very painful I did not know what I was going to do and it was really hard to find another dog especially what I was looking for because of the pandemic. In the end I ended up getting my black pitbull who is in the picture and a month ago I got a second gorgeous orange and white red nose female pitbull that’s going to be about 85 pounds which is crazy. So now I have two female Pitbulls I feel a lot safer I have to work on my guns I’m not where you’re at but I grew up with them and my father was a gun designer.
    I know this is really long so I’m going to exit I think it’s great you read all these. But I have the same thing as you I’m out here with no one around and my social life is my job that I still do over the phone I’m a business owner it’s a little different but I’m talking to workers all day at least three or four days a week. And then going to doctors or going into town or town is only 30 minutes so it’s not like I said like yours and there’s still people sort of around me but basically empty cabins especially in the winter but again not as isolated because when a town is 30 minutes that’s a whole different story you can always go into town so I find the isolation and solitude just fine. And it is true isolation because in the winter when it’s cold and you’re burning a fire all night and you don’t have a TV you just have books and CZcams it is definitely isolation. My hat is off to you I will ask more questions in the next one I think I’ve written a book here. 😊

      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello Violet! Did I not mention Oregon? Really. Washington and Oregon were my first two states I looked at besides Alaska. Then was Montana and Idaho. I mean I did try to look in Utah, Wyoming too but that was short lived. I wanted to live somewhere in the Northwest. Ok let me see about answering your questions!
      Trash: I burn all my trash except glass, plastic and tin. Those three items I can drop off at a recycle station in town. I can also only burn trash on certain days when burning is allowed. Big items I can take to a transfer station which is just a big enclosed dumpster. We also have a dump. It's not close to me but I can go there. My contractor dumped most of my old roof there.
      Veterinarian: I am so sorry to hear about you losing your dog to lymphoma. And very happy you found more pitties! They get such a bad rap but are just big teddy bears! Great protectors too! There are two veterinarians I can get to if needed. I would assume if there was something more complicated needed for Kenai that the closer I get to Anchorage the more veterinarians there would be. Guns are only ok if you get the training and put in the practice! I know you know this obviously but I cannot stress the practice enough. I took a concealed carry class in Colorado. At least now, I can practice in my back yard!
      And you are correct! No matter how secluded you are, technically you always are talking to someone still. I find that when I am in towns, I perk up and just talk to everyone. Not because I am lonely but because its just nice to talk to some people face to face. Although I still run into the "power trip" people sometimes. I stop at the local markets and people start to know me by name. And you cant beat the sound of a crackling fire as entertainment. I could listen to that all night! And I have! I have a TV coming with my stuff from Colorado but for me, I will plug a DVD player into it and watch movies someday. If I have the time.
      You feel free to ask all the questions you like Violet! Don't worry about the length of your comments! Thank you so much!

      That was so sweet of you to answer!
      I really appreciate that it was funny somebody almost talked me out a living here the other day when talking about emergency stuff because we are on the Cascadia subjunction zone which means a big earthquake one day and we’re also in slide areas in Oregon most of Oregon is a slide area and there is a tsunami below me but it doesn’t get my spot it would wipe out part of the town and then there’s fires. But I have a husband who lives in another state and we talk all the time it’s a complicated situation he’s military and he said look you’re a tough woman you’re out there you’d be just fine you just need to have your three month supply of everything and it’s not like the government isn’t going to do drops if you guys are stuck out there they’re not gonna let you starve and die. It’s so funny how people are just so scared to live their lives and they’re afraid of everything I’m just so proud of you and thanks for answering all the wonderful questions I will be a big fan on here for a while. ❤❤

Also, did you buy your cabin sight-unseen or did you make several trips to see houses prior to buying? Are you able to have some sort of a small, indoor greenhouse to grow fresh veg in the winter?

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello Mimi! When I started my search in Alaska I had no real areas I "had to live in". I more or less looked on Zillow, found the property I was interested in and then researched the area. And sometimes the area just wasn't what I was looking for. When I found this place it was more mapping out how far the basic services where. I made one trip to Alaska to look at my final 3 choices. Two of the three where automatic "NO GO" just driving up to it. TRASH/TRAFFIC and TERRAIN. This cabin I had scheduled a walk though because it was the only property that had a cabin. Watch Episode 22. I basically walk through everything in more detail. As for a greenhouse, I plan to have a heated greenhouse so I can grow year round or at least get a huge head start of seed starts. Thank you so much Mimi!

    Well shoot your hooked to a powerline..that's surprising but a good thing for you.. that must have cost a fortune to have put in.

      One of the nicknames I was given was Annie (Oakley). Considering my location, I was shocked that the property had electricity too. It was never mentioned in the listing. Like most people who want electricity, solar is always the cheaper option over having a power line brought in. Since I have electricity, I can worry about solar later. For now, some sort of battery back up makes more sense! And I may have found Kenai but ain't nobody claiming him now! He's mine! LOL! And I will catch up to you other comments later twobears! DSL, I feel your pain. I’m in the same boat and understand how frustrating it can be.
    About your comment about being brave and skill sets. Reminds me of a comment my Mom made when I first moved in here. She said “0h my, I hate to think I raised my daughter to be a pioneer women”! Lol. She was a bit dismayed at my choice for sure. Granted this place had been empty for awhile, was party central for some local kids and in bad condition, not live in ready at first so it was a bit rough in the beginning but I could see past all the needed work. I fell in love with the property truthfully.
    Wishing you a relaxing July 4th weekend. Take care. Hugs to you and Kenai who sounds like an awesome boy! You are lucky you found each other. 💖

      Maybe I am a bit old fashioned. There were just some things you didn't discuss with others. Nowadays some of these things are bragged about. Weird! But I also wont mention some things to keep my exact location secret. But the pioneer lifestyle is what I am reaching for. Pioneer lifestyle with electricity!! I know that feeling though! Some people have a hard time seeing past the mess and repair and all you can see is the potential. And especially if you just fall in love with the property, all the work and money is worth it! I had a great 4th and I hope you did as well Deborah! Hugs given to Kenai 🤗Thank you so much Deborah!

    Hi, it's great that you're armed and willing to take care of yourself but I have to ask. Are you practicing in your targeting and stress situations. I don't know your experience but not training and being prepared for the unexpected and for high stress situations is usually disastrous when a situation does arise. Be well.

      Must agree that practicing and being comfortable with handling and discharging your weapons is very important.

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  Před 2 lety

      When I got my concealed carry permit in Colorado, I was practicing often. Could have practiced a lot more but this "Alaska thing" came up! LOL! I have a set up in the back to practice shooting but I have to be careful with ammo. Once prices go down more, I will get more target ammo. The 357 Magnum has a lot more kick than my 380 (obviously). I do practice "the scenarios" as often as I can. Just the draw. I don't worry about the two legged threats as I know I can draw on them. Its the charging bears or moose that no one can ever practice for but I do try to get that muscle memory down best I can so when the adrenaline is rushing, hopefully I can still draw. But trust me, I don't just wear the holster for looks. I had to figure the best placement and the hip draw worked best for me. Especially wearing dresses. Thank you so much!

    Glad your construction projects are comming along, I'm sure that you have a lot more things on your to do list but like everything else time and money can hold things up. If you had it to do over again would you build a cabin the way you want it instead of buying one and fixing it up?

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  Před 2 lety

      Hey Chip! the list of "to do" projects just keeps growing. I get one finished and immediately say "you know what would be good with that is ..." so the list will probably never end! There are two answers to your question though. Building something from the ground up does have its perks. I have never done that but having something just built the way you like has got to be exciting. Everything is just new. But for me, I like the fixing up. Especially a cabin this old. Love to keep as much of the rustic charm it has but upgrade some things. Like a balcony. Something this cabin has never had. I think my creativity comes more from fixing or improving more than coming up with something from the ground up. Although I did build a cardboard cabin once. It had all the rooms I wanted, balconies and a big kitchen. Luckily I was able to find this cabin though. When I first saw it, I was like hey this is almost what I built with carboard! Thank you so much Chip!

    Your strange encounter sounds kinda like a Sun Dog phenomena. Also called Parhelion. The sun dog is a member of the family of halos caused by the refraction of sunlight by ice crystals in the atmosphere.

      I looked that up just now and a sun dog is so beautiful. That sun dog is way grander than what I saw. The orbs I saw where at night in the trees. 3-4 of them but only two moving very slowly. Some changing color. They were moving lava lamp slow. Looked like slow motion. If Alaska had fireflies, that's what I would have assumed it was. Thank you so much!
