and now... the rams and chiefs have the highest scoring MNF game
And 3rd highest scoring ever.
@@Bluebirdfalling not to mention the 2nd highest ever in terms of post afl-nfl merger
Chiefs fan?
Crazy that the 2018 Chiefs-Rams game BROKE this MNF record.... on the day you uploaded the video :D
HellScream Terrible timing
@@eliasddominguez I think it was perfect timing. Pretty cool to upload the highest scoring game on it's last day that it reigned as number one.
@@Wallyworld30 It was uploaded after the Rams-Chiefs game. The date is always the uploaders date. I got the notification after the Rams game.
bowlchamps37 Was it uploaded after the rams-chiefs? Well I'm disappointed I guess the uploader isn't clairvoyant after all.
@@bowlchamps37 I got the notification before the Rams-Chiefs game
the SECOND highest scoring Monday Night Football game now
take a shot every time an announcer says “oh yeah!!”
One of the best shootout in NFL history. Thanks for this amazing post.
Outdated in 4 hours. Poor NFL Throwback, you did your best.
This great, entertaining, under appreciated team now has nothing to be remembered by. Their only record has now been broken. But they can at least hold their heads high knowing it took 35 years to break it. For true Packer fans, this is a sad night.
Trace Chmielewski The Packers had a lot of talent on the offense in the early ‘80s- Lynn Dickey, Eddie Lee Ivery, James Lofton, John Jefferson, and Paul Coffman
Highest scoring game in NFL history still stands at 113 points (1966)
Redskins - 72
NY Giants - 41
Back when O linemen couldn't use their hands to block. D linemen could head slap O linemen to rush.
QBs could be hit, tackled and driven into the ground.
DBs could trip, hatchet, or otherwise wipe out wide receivers at the line of scrimmage, and use bump-and-run coverage down the field (until the ball was in the air)
Receivers were routinely "clothes lined" - head and neck tackling was legal. Spearing the ball carrier was also legal. And defenders were allowed one step in hitting ball carriers who were completely out-of-bounds, in, or past the endzone. No such thing as a "defenseless player" back then.
Yeah, I forgot they have 13 NFL titles.
Unforgettable game. Watched every minute of it at college that night.
I remember that game because I stayed up late and watch to the very end and I was late for school . Lol 😆
Funny thing. At 4:07, Mike Meade vaults over current Packers President Mark Murphy for the touchdown. This was a great team offensively. Lynn Dickey is really the forgotten Packers star QB due to the defense being terrible and GB would constantly lose games by a touchdown or less cause the defense couldn’t come up big in the clutch.
This offense was stacked. Dickey, Hall of Famer James Lofton, All-Pro and multiple time Pro Bowler TE Paul Coffman (still holds almost every GB TE record), former Air Coryell star John Jefferson and a good RB tandem of Eddie Lee Ivery and Gerry Lewis. Really good team. Then that idiot Forest Gregg ruined the team.
The Packers really only had to endure a small era of crap QB play, via the three headed crap QB monster made up of Dickey (post 1983), Randy Wright, and the one and only Don Majkowski... Too many 8-8 years, 4-12 years, and 7-9 years... Then the Atlanta Falcons entire front office had a collective stroke, shat their pants, and traded GB the amazing Brett Favre, hallowed be thy name, hossana in the highest.
No more shite QB play after that... Buh-bye Don Majkowski. Buh-bye mediocre Packers.
The QBs after Dickey were terrible. Majkowski could have been something special if he didn’t tear his rotator cuff. I’d honestly rather have Dickey over Favre cause if you look at Dickey’s stats, he turned the ball over a lot cause Bart Starr told him “Don’t worry about turnovers. If we don’t score 50 points, we’re gonna lose.” Dickey had to try and force the ball to win the game which cause his picks. Favre just aired it up and got picked. I love Favre. He was so fun. But I honestly think if Mike Holmgren had the choice between Favre at his best (1996) and Dickey at his best (1983), he’d choose Dickey. And so would I.
Meade looked so slow on that play but that hurtle was clutch.
Magic Man was supposed to be our future after he led us to 9-7 season almost to the playoffs which was a huge deal for GB in the late 80's. Amazing how fate had different plans.
Marty Moose actually it was a 10-6 record. But they didn’t win the division thanks to Minnesota winning their final game.
Highest MNF until now
That straight ahead kicking style on the last field goal brings back memories!
Monday Night Football used to be special because it was the only night game during the week, and one of the few Nationally televised games.
You could dedicate an entire channel to great Monday Night performances. Thank you for this one NFL Throwback!
Easy sub btw. Glad I found this channel!
Chiefs vs rams 2018
Forty years ago today and I still remember having watched this game!
GB was on fire on this MNF game.
The Redskins were the defending champions and the far superior team overall, but GB played to their maximum potential this night.
This post was anticipating tonight very well. BTW it's sad that the one time you guys have the MNF rights it's during one of the worst eras for them with Namath and OJ in the booth. I felt so bad for Frank.
Watched this game with my Dad (both Packer fans) and we were jumping around like mad men. My Mom was in the other room and thought somebody had died. LOL
One of my fondest memories. I was 20, and I'd be leaving for the service 11 months later. I'll always treasure this memory.
Nice throwback!
Lynn Dickey would have probably had a better career if he was in a better situation compared to what he had in Green Bay. He put up some numbers on some really lackluster Packers teams. Having Lofton and Coffman to throw to helped of course.
I love how you updated it to second highest scoring
Awesome game, glad I was there to see it!!!
LOVE IT. Sometimes it's fun to see two teams through caution to the wind and just engage in a back and forth wild offense slugfest. Under the bright lights of Monday Night Football there is nothing better. Back before social media this was the kind of game your buddies would be blowing up the kitchen phone..."Dude...where are you...ARE YOU WATCHING THIS!?"
He uploaded it after. It’s a great marketing technique. He knew pundits would come and comment on this one, therefore it would accumulate a lot of views and ad revenue. Smart.
I remember watching this on TV that night with astonishment of how free the receivers were getting and missed tackles there were. Great game for the record books.
I really hope this game’s record doesn’t fall. This game needs to be remembered.
bout to be by the rams and cheifs
Sadly. Now this underrated, fun Packers team has nothing to be remembered by. No one will remember it now that the only record they held has been broken. For true Packer fans, this is a sad night.
The Packers and terrible defense. Name a more iconic duo.
Love listening to the announcers just loving the action too. "Alright!" "OH YEA" It was just a fun night
Lol did they update the title after last night? Awesome love you guys
These players physique are DEFINITELY different from players in the NFL now.
Due to what,?..real workout players..is like generations are shrinking
I remember this like it was yesterday.
Commentators were having a blast
Best shootout I ever seen was broncos vs Dallas in 2013
kobe turner Bengals vs. browns back in like 06 or 07 was amazing 48-58
Lostin Thegarden I don't recall what game it was but I Remember seeing a few crazy shootouts with Favre. The game he played the day after his father died was pretty hype.
@@Wallyworld30 that game was a blowout
Lynn DIckey could have been one of the great quarterbacks. What an arm he had.
absolute cannon. Sort of like Jeff George
This is about to be broken by the Cheifs and Rams my dude
Man this game most have been crazy back then in the NFL this game happens almost every other week man I love defense
I hate defense
@@nikosuavesworldofsportsmusic everyone has their preference but defense is awesome
Fitting post given the MNF game tonight
That's the point
Good video
Love the nostalgia
I remember staying up and watching that game when I was in High School. Was thinking "why are we having so much trouble stopping the Packers" since they were no longer good. Oh well!
I was able to stay up until it was 45-40 Packers I think. I was in grade school. I was surprised to find how it ended.
And jeez louise, Riggins was a monster. Dwarfing linebackers out there.
Daryl Green sighting!!! Man he was a great player.
An all time classic… and the reason I didn’t get my Algebra homework done that night…😄
Alot of people forget this era for the packers and this was under former packers offensive line great head coach forrest Gregg
Bart Starr was the coach in 1983, Forrest Gregg was hired in 1984. You are right about this era--lots of people want to forget many of these games.
Chiefs and Rams said hold my beer 😂😂😂
Remember watching this as a kid and going to bed disappointed. That damn Moseley missed that f*cking fg!
NFL throwback called it! Tonight has broken the record for highest scoring Monday Night game!
Now that's how you play defense. Kudos to both teams. This was the blueprint for the 85 Bears 46 defense....
Blueprint? Is there a building
What's a kudo and how many are you giving them
@@chriskrausesmovie It's called sarcasm, big boy. Sorry the educational system in the USA failed you. However, there is always a chance to self improve. But you need to be willing to put forth some effort. I have faith in you. Best of luck....
Back when it actually meant something to score in the 40s.
Ok... Did no one else notice that he threw the ball out of bounds instead of spiking it to stop the clock
Classic game
Not any more!!!! RAMS vs Chiefs, great game!!!
Patrick And Goff: Hold my beer
Sounds like Dandy Don had a few Martinis in the booth calling this game with Frank Gifford. Dude was slurring & saying "Oh Yea" over & over.
Yea. So what he was having fun
This game officially the 2nd highest scoring MNF game
That '83 GB team was loaded offensively. The problem was the defense couldn't stop anyone. They were terrible. The only way GB could win was getting into a shoot-out with the opponent. So it was fitting that a last second FG loss to the Bears ended their season at 8-8 costing them a playoff spot.
Don Meredith sounded drunk the entire game LOL
How is there a blank Redskins helmet in the end zone when the Packers score at 2:35 when the game is being played in Green Bay?
damn. skins were tuff back then
Lol, I like how this was posted THE DAY the record was beaten for MNF
Perfect timing 😂
I like these commentators, they seem to enjoy watching football and aren't afraid of showing a little bias based on how the games going. Today, it's just robots who don't wanna offend a fan base and just say the same cliches over and over again.
At the end of the game, Theismann threw a pass out of bounds to stop the clock. When did spiking the ball into the ground for the same effect become routine?
Todd Biesel it wasn’t allowed back then.
Robert DeFrancesco I'm just asking when the rule was changed to allow it.
Todd Biesel I think mid 90’s
1987 was the first year spiking the ball became legal.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987_NFL_season#Major_rule_changes
1983-2007 rip ST
My thing is this if they was at lambeau why was the Redskins helmet in the end zone
Lynn Dickey was the MAN!
Packers offense said screw u defense, were gonna score some points
Captain Jack that GB offense was amazing. Really underrated and under appreciated. Lynn Dickey was a very accurate and powerful QB. He could duel the best and had a good shot of winning games. GB’s offense from 81-84 was one of the best in the league. The only teams ahead of them was the 49ers, Redskins and Chargers. Problem was GB had the worst defense in the league.
Not after tonight! Rams and Chiefs game! KC 51 Rams 54! Wow what a game!
Crazy and great game. I was sure Redskins will win it.
Rams and Chiefs just broke this record
this is no longer the highest scoring MNF game. Chiefs Rams, November 19th 2018 51-54 Rams win
Yes, they acknowledged that.
Were qbs not allowed to spike the ball back then? That last throw I thought was a bit unusual in a game- clinching situation
Did the Packers have the Redskins logo on one of their end zones?
That very first Packers td should not have been. That guy for the Deadskins was definitely down by contact.
This isn’t in the Packers Classic Games Playlist
Wow, a lot has changed since 1983. Redskins still had a throwback Kicker that did front toe kicking. No 2 point conversions. No spiking the ball to kill the clock. What else has changed? Edit: Someone else mentioned no replay challenges which could have changed the outcome of this game.
It was one of those games where you didn't want to see a loser, but one needs to step up.
Imagine playing on of these defenses
The Redskins only lost 2 games that year during the season and the playoffs by 1 point a piece. 31-30 loss to the Cowboys on opening day on Monday Night Football and this game until the Superbowl where they got slaughtered by 29 points.
And no defense was played on this night.
Riggins was a tank
Ironic that this video was posted the day the record was broken
I miss the halcyon days of... last year... when shootouts weren't a multi-weekly appearance... Even the Bucs-Giants game ended up 35-38!
Is the screen pass intercepyed at 0:03 the same idiotic play they ran later that year in the super bowl?
amlnet49 Essentially
The weird thing is that he was clearly down with the knee way before he lost the ball. Nowadays it wouldn't be a touchdown. The replay system has come a long way since the awkward game-halting beginning days. I couldn't imagine not having it now, because games used to be won or lost on officials missing something much more often back then.
Yep. Rocket screen
Troy S there was no replay in 1983 though. So only someone else on the crew could overturn it
Yup
It was
That title is now changed to Chiefs-Rams.
Texas a&m beat LSU 74-72 yesterday!
Until tonight. Rams-Chiefs with 105 Points on Monday Night Football tonight.
Chiefs and Rams 2018 (I Seent It 👀)
Time to change the title of this video lol
This is a Madden score today
I wonder why one end zone was packers and the other looked like redskins?
Odd
Out of country maybe?
@@focusreaper4685 I was thinking maybe Milwaukee but it was Lambeau.
www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/198310170gnb.htm
Back in the day the packers would paint on end zone the visiting team’s colors. Kind of a “welcome” I think?
I just checked myself… that WAS the same Mark Murphy. Apologies.
Theres a new record ram vs chiefs 54-51
5:52 was spiking the ball not invented yet
It would have been intentional grounding back then, you had to at least pretend you were throwing to someone.
Was that Aaron Rodgers after he mastered time-travel? Er Before? :)
the very next day...
That is not a lateral at all
soon it be it was
Not anymore
How ironic
