- Honda brought their demo team to my local dealer and I was able to see the Pioneer 1000 in person and drive it. All I can say is that is a great machine with tons of potential, very refined. But I won't be selling my Commander anytime soon. This new Honda needs to prove itself

I just bought a 2020 Honda Pioneer 1000-5 it is a incredible machine. Way better than belts.
I have owned a Polaris RZR 800, Can-Am commander 800 and many Honda atvs in the past. I still have two king quads (500 & 750) and just picked up a new 1000 Pioneer 5 this week. So far it has gone through everything central FL has to offer without a hiccup. Hands down the most impressive machine I ever owned. I'll never buy a POS Canadian bike again. The Can-am was fun, but too much trouble with the belt system and breaking axles, and I have been stranded on the Poo-Laris wayyyyyy to many times to ever give them another chance. Hopefully this Honda will keep running like it does now, and it rides like a dream!
+turboyoda Only time will tell. Thanks for the comment!
can am is a US company not canadian
Time has already told. Can am is unreliable like polaris.
Can am is made by BRP from Valcort Quebec CANADA. Unfortunately, they assemble the ATV and SXS in Mexico.
@@digitalfuk yes but the new can am x3’s are sooo fast.
my buddies have commander 1000. 800. commander polaris 800 6x6 utv n they do ok in the mountains here in alaska every moose hunting season they are fixing belts axles. my 700 pioneer get me to hunting grounds n back getting tired pulling my buds back to moose camp so they can fix there machine's I pull out a full moose through swamp n skeg w a little winching a moose adds 900 lbs of meat n so do my buddies in there machines the 1000 w more power would be awsome people saying the weigt to much is crap u get in a deep hole no matter what u weigh u gonna get stuck. but when u crossing big rivers lighter veichles drift down river more I am gonna get me a 1000 n keep on hunting
As far I know right now I will buy a 1000 can am utvodes, but let me tell everyone honda is and always the best for a utv,a tv out there!
+robert blankenship When somebody wants a bulletproof machine that won't leave them stranded in the bush, Honda is usually the choice.
This is what I've been exactly looking for. After owning a slew of Polarises including the RZR and Ranger and riding with my buddies Commander ever since new I'm going to make the jump to Honda. My buddy has over 10,000 miles on his Can Am and it's been a real good machine but it does need alot of refinements like the motor needs to be moved to the back. It's a PITA to work on. Only major problems he has had with it is belt problems and he just had to replace the complete clutch system on it for $1200. He's replaced the rack and pinion , axles and shifter linkages. I've owned my last polaris. The bearings, bushings are already shot again at 3500 miles. Rack and pinion shot. Replaced the ECU but have never had any belt problems. Honda reliability has already proven itself. No need to wait.
I just posted a very controversial video called 5 Reasons not to buy the Pioneer 1000 you may want to see.
I disagree Honda has proven itself, give this machine a good year, let other people find the faults if any, then buy. Remember Honda hasn't had this much power in any ATV previously and power causes problems.
+Trail Rider I'll watch it
+Sask Trail Rider dude you're so bias it's painful
I no this video is old but now that the 1000 has been here for 6 years. Its a Honda it will last look at the Honda sxs club and their are plenty 1000's with over 25k miles on them and 700's with 30k plus miles. Its your money get what you want but I only want to buy once not every 2 or 3 years. Its been proven time and time again stick with Japanese made brands and you will be fine.
Interesting. Did you take the Rubicon for a ride and will you be doing a video on that?
(FYI: Honda doesn't "have" to prove itself, it did a long time ago)
New models still need to, lots of computer controls in that new 1000. Yes I got a ride on a 2016 Rubicon, nice machine and I will post a video eventually. Thanks for watching and commenting Jerry
Honda dont need to prove shit i got a foot shift p1000 no electronics
After what I've been through I wouldn't touch another Can-Am side by side...
This is the direction I've been looking.
+Darien Seminoff Or Polaris, Thats why I have a Kawasaki Teryx 4 and a John Deere RSX 850I.
+Darien Seminoff Everybody seems to have different experiences with different brands. Of the 8 or so I have owned I have only had one bad experience, and that was due to the previous owners lack of maintenance and nothing to do with the machine. If I were purchasing a machine to work around my farm or plant trees in the middle of no where, I would be buying Honda or Yamaha. But for pure fun, nothing beats Can Am in my opinion, Polaris a close second.
Trail Rider Vary true.
right on the money. can am junk
Sask Trail Riders honda p1000 bored out to 2000cc is better i have one
Lack of parking brake is my only complaint about mine. Added a Hillbilly Brake, solved the problem!
Thanks for sharing..I'm considering. But If you were comparing with your Commander, you should have been testing the 3 seater version, and your course is not a real world test.
honestly suzuki had this 40 years ago it was called the lj80
a light bare bone jeep of roughly the same size.
raccoon681 nope u idiot
You have that Honda technology in there...sold
Love the manual paddle shifting.
The Honda is a far superior machine, Honda do not need to prove itself. There are still 1982 BiG REDS working with miles and miles on them, Sure the UTV is different but Honda would not put out junk. I own a 1000-5. I can say this. The LE is the top and recommend it for storage and shocks. The biggest downfall of Honda is its cabs are drafty and do not seal well for the $$$$$$ they charge.
So, i'm thinking of trading my 2012 XMR 800 off on a side by side. i bought it new and it has been looked after very well. never underwater. BUT i'm disappointed in the quality of the electronics on the Can-Am and i can't say i really trust it alone in "the bush" if you know what i mean. I've ahd to remove the battery and take the ignition apart on rides before because i couldn't get ignition power. found out the problem was that DESS key not making connection. very frustrating.
what do you recommend as an all around side by side? nothing crazy just reliable and dependable? thanks
+yako0000 Sorry to hear about your problems with the Can Am. Not typical in my opinion, I currently have a Can Am Commander and it has been great. Only issue I've had was blowing a belt but I was pretty hard on it. I have owned many other Can Am's and all have been solid reliable machines as well.
If your turned right off on Can Am and looking for a sxs I would be looking at either Yamaha or Honda if I were you. The Viking and Wolverine look like great machines and I have heard many good things about them from satisfied owners. And for Honda this new Pioneer 1000 looks awesome but I think the 700 is a little too under powered.
"HONDA NEEDS TO PROVE ITSELF" ROFLMAO, IT'S A HONDA!!!!
Long live honda. Roll them down a hill but them in a ditch and they will still get you home.
Amazing, no one shows how to access the engine compartment on these Hondas.
just take the seat off like a older ranger
I was just in the market for a new utv. It was between this the viking and the polaris ranger. I couldn't deal with all the qwirks of this honda espessialy the rear seat interference with the bed having to fold shit down everytime and no seal whatever goes in the bed flops allover the back seat after you re fold everything . No room for people in the rear. Anyway I ended up getting a odes dominator 800 twin it's a kawasaki teryx mixed with yamaha rhino body and has the canam rotax 800 twin 60hp engine. Has the yamaha gauges and the diff lock is sweet. Came with full cab 6 led light pods on the roof front and rear winches. Stereo hookups glove box underseat storage really nice seats that adjust front rear and lean back , electric dump bed 14 inch rims with bighorns . All the goodies you usually have to pay extra for was stock. I like it 60hp is enough for me even tho I think it's more like 65 70hp. Love having a touch screen flip out stereo for gps and kids can watch movies. Heater. Ect
You dont need tools with the Honda because they dont break down
I need something sportier than that, but it would look good on the ranch.
Honda Talon
cool review 86/87 cr 80 ? nice cbr . I hope they put that motor in the Rubicon
+MrSappo01 That was an 86. Fun little bike, my first machine with a clutch. They will put it in a Rubicon, Honda is loving the attention that the 1000 is getting, how could they not want to continue that.
Yeah it is hope Kawasaki comes out with sport 1000 to
dustin rudder it's finally coming in 2020...we will hopefully have Kawa, Honda and a good Yamaha sport utility with actual power coming too or a 4 seat yxz
Just a quick question to 1000 owners...Does anyone else have a thump sound while shifting from gear to gear in automatic drive mode? Mine is a 2016 with very low hours...
LoneWolf78 8,
Got a 2018 2300km. Always did it, too.
My 2020 has 30 miles on it and it does the same thing it’s normal.
The back seats are terrible to sit in especially when your 6 foot 1 I can't stand sitting in the back
if like me you dont care about plastic fenders and paper performance but care about what's UNDER the fenders Buy Honda....10 Polarisk/Canned Ham lifes inside 1 Honda
1750lbs? good god! No thank you.
+Buck Chain She's a big heavy girl. Call her Big Red
Get the 3 seat 1500 lbs idiot
Hell of alot quieter than my Can Am Commander
Polaris generals are way more comfortable and smoother
I would wait to see if Honda got this auto right. They sure screwed up there first exempt with the Forman ATV. And repair cost of that auto was extream just like repairing a car auto trans. I hate the snowmobile belt drive system. Bring back the shifter like Yamaha did.
+Rob Mcginley That's why when I bought my 2006 Foreman TRX500FM. I got the true and tried Manual. I have 4800 KM on it and it hasn't ley me down once since owning it. I am really thinking on buying the Pioneer 1000-5. Or the Polaris General.
ive got a 02 rubicon with over 5000klm and no issues at all with the transmission .... most people who do have issues don't do the maintenance and just ride them into the ground.. there not even known for tranny issues lol
Over 14000 klm on my foreman and it has NEVER broken down. I don’t know your driving style but The more aggressive drivers the more Maintaince.
Can am way faster with more wheel travel and power with better sitting
+dustin rudder I like my Commander, it's a lot sportier than the Pioneer. Even though it's not quite what most people were hoping for it's moving in the right direction
This is not a "sport" machine. It's a work/play machine that's reliable unlike Can am.
No Polaris no Can-Am no thank you!
Kill the music
Honda>>>Can-Junk
Ugly styling and seats that are worthless for all-day trail riding. This thing is a farm buggy, but even then you have to spend even more money (on top of the new car price tag) for a liner for the bed so you can actually use it without messing up the rear seat mechanisms!! The only thing it's got going for it is the Honda reputation for durability.
bigbluegpr the only thing ?? It's everything you keep waiting your money on garbage and being stuck I'll take the ugly seats
yes, those tarps keep getting more and more expensive.3 years later,it's proved itself.only major issue was the cabin heat issue that was fixed, along with a fix for free for older models. suck it polaris/can am.
So nice for property maintenance. Once you have one you think how did I do this crap with out it. Beats that hell out of a riding mower with a trailer.
Way too big. Only good for a farm, and for the money you'd be better of with a ford ranger to lug stuff around in...
Eric B honestly i dont get it. i work at a polaris dealership and we sell polaris, canam, honda, and kawi. dude come in and spend thousands and thousands of dollars on these golf carts for farm/ranch work or crawling/trails. like damn. buy a damn f350 or a jeep wrangle. something with doors and ac.
clearly never driven one.
Maybe if we could just hear a word your saying!! AUDIO sucks
You thinks that’s good, look into polaris
can am junk
1750lbs? good god! No thank you.
+Buck Chain Too light?
