The fact is THIS WAS THE MOMENT for Kris to show range and he just sang it as everyone does. Adam sang it like Freddie would have live.

This was honestly embarrassing for him. I actually really liked him when he was on idol. I mean Adam was by far my favorite but kris was still charming, had a nice voice, etc.
But this wasn’t even fair, to make him sing a Queen song, alongside Adam with that unreal voice of his. Every time they switched from one to the other, the power of Adam was so jarring and overpowering it felt like two different songs. Really showed the differences in the two of them. I would not ever want to ever perform alongside Adam haha and ESP not a Queen song…. And with Queen. Yikes.
The producers clearly knew this, which is why they gave kris the easier calmer parts to sing. Imagine him singing the parts Adam did.
@@_birdie So very true. Kris was a nice guy, and an ok talent, but he was totally out of his league with Adam, and to his credit, Kris knew it. It was unfair, but I think Queen had been contacted by so many about Adam, and they wanted to meet with him and sing with him, and of course, they had to have kris on too as one of the last two finalists. Everytime you see this vid, you think, Poor Kris, how in the world did he win that Season of Idol? It is embarrassing for him to be up against Adam in that way, and of course Adam got all the hard parts, because Kris doesn't have that range.
@@barbararobbins5309 Not only was Queen contacted by "so many" the main one to reach out to Brian and Roger was a guy who now lives in Arizona named Spike Edney....Queen's keyboard player since Freddie!!! (Most underrated man in the Queen Universe). I think that is what got them on the plane! And poor Adam....you can see/hear how much he is holding back, as to not totally blow Kris off the stage. Wonder if he got a chance in rehearsal to really let it rip with them?!?!

Brian pretty much confirmed my suspicions: he said a few times that he tried not to favor Adam over Kris, but he just couldn't help it. They had chemistry from the very start.
I know haha I couldn’t stop watching Brian watching Adam. He was floored by him. His+Roger’s whole energy changed every time it was adam’s turn to sing.
LOL my favorite is a couple times when Brian is asked about this performance and he says "Adam, and the other guy" LOLOL Now we all know Sir Bri is the kindest man who always gives credit, but to him Kris will always be that "other guy" singing with Queens new Frontman!!!
In the middle of this performance, Brian looked over at Adam and you could tell that he knew it...at long last he finally found the front man that had the charisma of Freddie Mercury. If this tour is as successful as everyone thinks it will be, Queen is going to return to the top as one of the greatest bands ever. No one can ever replace Freddie Mercury but Lambert is quite comfortable in that role.
I know what you mean, when i first saw this i noticed that too, and especially hearing Queen talk about how them and Adam just 'clicked' i think i get it: Kris sang the song like he was trying to preserve it, and directly after it Adam got up and just made it his own like he does, pushing it further without permission and I think Queen sees that as something Freddie would do, to "keep the music alive" as they said rather than letting it die as Freddie left it. Adam, while obviously not Freddie, is the perfect guy to keep it evolving...
cindyandron I know this is a year latter than you, but if you watch Brian's face, he looks much happier near Adam than around Kris.

All you have to do is watch Brian work the guitar when Adam kicks his voice up about halfway through.
5 years later just saw their concert adam killed it they definitely have a great connection on stage. Best concert I've been to!

The mistake is saying Adam lost. Adam was the winner out of the two, last year Brian May said the band felt a connection to Adam in this performance - now they're Queen + Adam Lambert. To be "adopted" by Queen, is definitely to come out winning.

Plus he wasn’t stuck w the contract w them after the show. If you win, they kinda own you. Ur Forced to sing their crappy music. Listen to their decisions. Like the ridiculous songs they always release immediately after a person wins Idol, and Kris Allen’s gem was the painfully horrible “there are no boundaries”. Haha. Aside from kelly Clarkson and Carrie underwood- can u name a single Idol winner who is actually successful? Or heard their names mentioned at all?? Idol is great for getting exposure, but winners end up losers in the end.

I support your statement, Hell! i love gay people, and i LOVE ADAM LAMBERT but .... just but............ he only announced about his sexuality the next day after they announced the winnner of american Idol. Cz adam did not want to risk it during the competition as he knew that it wud affect his performance and audience decision. So you can look it up :D i just wanted to provide you with a fact.

I love how Brian kept looking at Adam, as if thinking: "Where the hell did this kid come from?!" I think he was simply amazed. Knowing that Adam's been performing with Queen lately, those looks Brian was giving him here have a whole new meaning. ;-)
Actually, Brian May requested to be on AI and to meet Adam, with the thought that he could very well be their new front man. Adam was not aware that this was the reason Queen was there.

No comparison. Adam is on a different level, hence him being Much more successful in their careers. It was obvious that Queen was impressed with Adam. Adam has not only a powerful voice but also versatile with a lot of depth, which is important and separates the two.

Lambert has an incredible voice and range. Kris is a vocal rice cake. You can find singers like Kris in any pub on a Saturday night. Plus he keeps writing the same kind of song over and over.

So I'm a huge fan of Adam Lambert, but I didn't watch him on Idol (more of an AGT fan than an Idol fan) so I didn't even know that Adam performed with Queen prior to now! This has to be the biggest plot twist I've seen. Adam started his Idol journey with a Queen song, ended his idol journey with a Queen song and is now FRONTING QUEEN. If that ain't an act of fate, I don't know what is.
How is it possible that Adam lost this competition..the look on Bryan May’s face when Adam starts singing says it all...lesson...he lost this fight but won the war!!!! Adam and Queen are magic together! 💜💜💜

Brian from Queen requested to be on American Idol with Adam because he wanted to get to know Adam. He had seen him on the show and was sure he had found their new front man. Adam was not aware of this at that time.

He won by losing. Lambert was free to pursue what he wanted to do instead of being locked up in a contract.
I found out last year before I got to watch Queen + Adam, lol. I am just like you, never watch Idol but knew Adam because he is very famous. Never heard of Kris.

Anyone that doubts that Adam can front Queen go see Queen w Adam live and you will change your mind. I saw them twice in London last summer and Adam's voice was phenomenal with Queen.

The only people who are nay sayers are pitiful narrow-minded unimaginative grumps stick in the past and being trolls when they should stick to the recorded music. Adam’s style may not be to their liking but there is no denying that superior talent.
Who needs to win American Idol when you have the voice Adam does? This right here gave him all he needed.
No one can replace anyone in this world. But one's legacy can be continued. Singing this song doesn't mean someone is trying to compete with Freddie. It reminds us of the great legacy that he's passed on even though he's not with us any more.

Adam had the much cleaner and crisper voice. That Queen held off, well, now Adam is there, and thank goodness. He's so much better live, and I saw him in August, with Queen. Fantastic. Queen fan for life..

I can't help but watch this video several times a day, I mean Queen + Adam on the same stage... I really liked Kris in Idol, but Adam was so above everybody else. I was at his concert in Paris and it was by far the best concert I've ever seen. He is an amazing singer and performer but he also is a really nice, down to earth guy. Can't wait for his second album.

Freddie Mercury's death was one of the most shocking and heartbreaking things in rock music's history. Seeing Brian May's face light up at 3:14, when Adam starts to sing, brought tears in my eyes. Not too many singers have the voice and the charisma to perform Queen's songs the way they shoud be. Of course no one can replace Freddie, but Adam Lambert is one of the few I can listen w/out missing Freddie all the time.

For me Adam Lambert always won this American Idol finale! His voice and stage presence overshadowed Kris by far. I was so disappointed about Kris Allen's "win" that I didn't watch American Idol no more for a long time. No Offence Kris, you were not singing bad but sadly you were used. Adam was and is the winner and a fantastic, admirable, brave artist!
I remember I was visiting my cousin in Virginia, I saw the finale with him and his partner. They said, Watch Kriss win over Adam... I said why? He's a much better singer than Kriss....and then, I got it. Adam had openly came out he is gay. I look at things now and people are more accepting than back in 2009. I believe that's what happened. Totally unfair! Yet, if you take a look back and see...where is Kriss now? And where is Adam and all the things he has accomplished as an artist. He is extremely talented and the emotion he gives In his voice and range is mind blowing! A true showman and gifted singer who has done justice being the front man of Queen after Mercury. Who ended up actually winning for the long run?! - Keep ripping it Adam! The best is yet to come!! 💙

I'm watching this video of Adam, Kris and Queen in April 2022. I have never been a fan of American Idol so did not see the shows. Also never payed any attention to Queen in their Hey day. So not familiar with the group. I recently, during the pandemic, became a Queen and an Adam fan. Looking back at this particular performance my opinion is that Adam was robbed. Absolutely no comparison, how could he not have won????
Some people claim that it's because Adam came out as gay. I've heard that even Kris himself said that Adam deserved the win. This was AFTER the votes had been tallied by the way and the winner was declared.

Didnt follow this back in 2009 - but until today I do not understand how Adam didn't win. Not that it matters, because Queen saw his talent and the rest ist history. Saw them live three times now and there is nobody better suited to celebrate Freddie on stage with Brian and Roger. Adam rocks with them as well as Freddie would have...
I didn’t follow this season of AI (I only really followed the Clay/Reuben season and then pretty much stopped watching because I was mad about what they did to Frenchie) but I’m guessing middle America went for Kris for whatever reason, so he was mainstream enough to win but then too mainstream that he didn’t stand out. That and I guess Kris never had a big single because I can’t think of one, whereas I never followed Adam at all til he joined up with Queen but I heard Whaddya Want From Me and Ghost Town a lot on the radio.
Poor Kris, to have to sing with Adam! He was so outsung!

ive watched this time and time again, Adam WOW!!! OMG!!! also noticed that when it comes to the solo's in this song, Kris has what I call the quiet lines and Adam has the more powerful one's which my god he blasts out of the park, but I felt they were protecting this Kris because if he would have done one of the powerful solo's it would have shown us that his voice was really not that good so the public would not go off him, saying that I think they had already chosen their winner before this no way were they ever going to let Adam win at any cost, there loss is QUEENS gain who's the biggest star now who is playing to millions at concerts? one clue its not that guy Kris
Was Kris a good singer? Absolutely. But undoubtedly, this performance proved Adam was leagues beyond. They gave Kris all the easy bits and Adam all the truly iconic bits because they were effortless for him to pull off. He'd been doing it all Season; transforming old classics into rock ballads and completely changing the way this show would continue to operate. Not only that, but in this, Kris is clearly performing at his best. Adam is clearly holding back. And it was glaringly obvious even then. They held Adam back so it would be a nice team performance, and yes, it was enjoyable. But the very clear sound of Adam NOT going for it is what resonates most in this.
I was always glad Kris won, because at the time winning this show was more or less a death sentence for your career and I wanted Adam to be where he belonged. And honestly, when all's said and done, really who's career is still strong?
