Family of man who died in Akron mass shooting grieves his loss: 'We should not be burying him'

- Akron Mayor Shammas Malik, Police Chief Brian Harding and acting Fire Chief Steven Kaut held a press conference on Sunday evening to provide updates on the mass shooting where 25 people were shot, including one confirmed death in the area of Kelly Avenue and 8th Avenue.
In an update Monday morning, the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office identified the 27-year-old man who died in the mass shooting as Lateris Cook of Akron. 3News' Lydia Esparra later spoke to his brother and stepmother: www.wkyc.com/article/news/loc... --

I have personal ties to this family. My prayers to the McDowell and cook family. This is truly a horrible day in history and the city of Akron. My prayer's and heartfelt condolences to all the families of the victim and for the 1st responders and attendees at the party. We have to get control of this gun problem in this country. I reside here in a large Metropolitan city it's even worse here as well. It's time for us to hold our country responsible for the lack of compassion and lackadaisical response to gun control, it has been out of control for quite some time now. I lost my brother to gun violence and this mass shooting has hit home again. I have to go there, to Akron to comfort my best friend and family for the loss of her babyboy. This is heart wrenching and unacceptable. I haven't wrapped my heart around the death of Lateris. RIP son God's got you now, rest well until we meet again. BeBe😢😢❤
