  • Dragon fruit is actually a cousin of the cactus pear. However, the dragon fruit's seeds are completely soft and edible (much like a kiwifruit), as compared to cactus pear seeds, which are crunchy like those in passion fruit! Also, unlike the cactus pear, the dragon fruit does not have spines on its skin

The green or greenish-yellow cactus pears are the sweetest, and are very simple and easy to peel. The fruiting cactus shown in the 2nd half of this video are a thornless variety that was developed many years ago by a brilliant horticulturist named Luther Burbank. The cactus pads are edible too. In Spanish this cactus is called Nopal, and the fruit are called Tunas.

My ex-sister-in-law used to make some of the best prickly pear (cactus pear) jelly and jam you've ever eaten. She lived in Texas, here in the US, and would go out into the desert with her tongs, a knife, and some gloves and get her pears for free then bring them home and make really sweet, flavorful jelly out of them.

damn pitaya and Tunas just grow wild in Mexico... same with guava trees and Huamichil. At least where I used to live.. I've seen Mango trees, papaya trees, avocado trees and lemon trees just growing without no1 taking care of them. Mexico could do so much exporting of fruits and vegetables.. the land is perfect for pretty much anything.. idk why they don't work their farming more.

Although it doesn't taste all that sweet, but cut cubes mix with other good fruits (orange meat, strawberry, green/red seedless grapes, kiwi, mangoes, deseeded red cherries), it is delicious to eat. Must put pepples ice cube to make it cold. Aloe Vera is also another great plant for cold Desserts. Aloe Vera meat cubes boil till cook. Boil rock sugar with pandan leaves (cold & put bottle with cab). Cut black grass jelly cubes. Mix black grass jelly with Aloe Vera meat and rock sugar (to taste). Put in freezer 4 hours and drink or immediately put ice with more sugar to taste, serve
