Jamie love to hear your voice. Looking forward to the rest of the electrical! OH, ONE TIP... those of you doing new fan install you should test the fan before the installation. I had a friend go through all the work of installing and some of the components on the fan didn’t work shocking dicovery once it’s all ready screwed n glued.. wish everyone the best conversions!

Amazing videos Jamie. I wish I already knew about the electtical. Just bought a bare, used 2015 Ford Transit. The owner did the most bizarre installation of a fantastic fan that I have to remove and replace with a MaxAir fan. I'm going to try to do it myself with your video. Thank you for posting all your videos. Been following you for 2 years. You're amazing!😇

As always Jamie I appreciate your straightforward format. No BS. I don't always agree with your methods but then I can take what I learned from you and do it however I like in the comfort of my own driveway with all my lifetime collection of tools. It's interesting that you are doing it seemingly in front of someone's apartment so that might explain some things. The lady who came by to chat was funny..."Are we filming?" LOL...you were very nice, and she did then leave you alone. Poor lady had no idea...

Grinder: $12 at Harbor Freight with their 20% off coupon. I'd suggest the roof cleaning before the corner holes! :)
Dangerous setting self tapping screws like that on such thin flexible sheeting as vans have, would predrill with an undersize drill bit so amateurs aren't over driving the screws and risking cracking the flange...
Also, since minimum roof thickness is 1.125" for the MAXXfan, many will want to frame out the freshly cut hole with something like 2x2 lumber before screwing down the roof flange, and that way the screws will just go through into the wood. This gives you a little more solid of a mounting, as opposed to just screwing the interior trim piece into whatever ceiling material you use (plywood, tongue and groove, etc.).
Also, carefully wash the roof after the Dycor dries: all the metal shavings will rust from the cutout that blew across the roof and create a heck of a rusty stain.
Oftentimes easier to do the wiring before setting the fan in place.
I'd also recommend cable wrap on all wires in the van. Just not worth the few bucks of savings versus the chance of a shortout later that will be a huge thing to deal with:
    www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?dir=asc&order=EAScore%2Cf%2CEAFeatured+Weight%2Cf%2CSale+Rank%2Cf&q=cable+wrap
    A great fan. I'm a fan. :)

B Miller wonderfull now I dont need to write all those suggestions out.. just takes a few YT views to learn all the pieces to the puzzle and get it done right. I always learn a lot from reading the comment section. Thx! BTW when one does screw the fan through the metal roof into the inside wood frame you will probably need longer screws i know.. but what kind would be best for that application? Thx again.

    • @stevenjoseph8134

I am doubting they are self tapping screws to begin with. I have just received and about to install my Maxx Fan Deluxe and they most certainly are 'not' self tapping screws. Maybe his were, but odd that mine aren't I guess. Will be using a small drill bit for install.

Diyvan.com makes an excellent flange for the ProMaster corrugation, and offers good advice and installation tips too. Recommend pilot holes even with self-tapping screws, and painting the bare metal with a rust-resistant paint like Rustoleum. Not related to the fan, but I also found a handy organizer for the rear driver side door in the Professional's Choice equestrian trailer caddy. Nice job, safe travels!

The city found appropriate space & funded a library technician position that works with a slug of volunteers for check-out and workshop instructors. Two union apprenticeship programs donated a couple of complete tool kits, plus others in community have been donating needed tools off the "want list". That grinder is a great example, yup only $30 bucks, but what am I going to do with it after cutting a hole in the roof of van. Might give to the library if they don't already have one for checkout.

Thanks for an excellent video. I used it to guide me through my own installation. Only question is, where does the van wire come from? Is it the back up camera? The puck light? A stand-alone wire you hooked into those fixtures? This is the last step in my install and any clarification will be greatly appreciated...

I connected to a fuse block. As long as you have continuous 12v power running to the fan, your good!

Thanks for the walk-through! I’m going to cut the hole in my Promaster this morning. A question...I see how you connect the power but I didn’t see where you got the power. Are you tapping in to existing power in the back (brake lights?) or are you running power from the source?

Hey Joe! We connected to after market deep cycle batteries through a ground block I installed. We want to avoid using the car battery because it is not deep cycle, thus the fan drawing juice from it on a regular basis will shorten it's life. Good luck on your install!

I like 14 gauge stranded wire for this. Actually I didn’t show the wiring into the fuse block. My bad! We just wanna run the black wire from the fan to the positive post and the white wire from the fan to the negative post. But I prefer to put it through a fuse block at about 7.5 A fuse. Hope that helps!

One question- I saw video where the maker said we should prime and paint the bare metal exposed after cutting. Do you think folding the tape over the metal makes this unnecessary? Thanks.
