- Whistling Jack Smith was the pseudonym of the British singer Billy Moeller (* February 2nd 1946 in Liverpool). He had with the One-Hit-Wonder I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman 1967 a top five hit in Great Britain and Germany.
OMG! I haven't heard this in a half century! I whistled along (tried to do both parts at the same time) all around the apartment we lived in. How can you not whistle along. (assuming you can whistle). I couldn't whistle for the longest time. My father tried to teach me what to do. As usual with me, I found my own way, astounded my parents, and they loved to hear me whistle songs after that. I was living in West Berlin in 1965-1966 and enjoyed Beat Club so much. @@peterkawe6451 John O'Neill was born in 1926, and he recorded the hit single as part of the Mike Sammes Singers. The person in this video was Billy Moeller, who became the public face of Whistling Jack Smith. He was obviously much younger than O'Neill, and preferred by the record company for public appearances to promote the single, which rose to number 5 on the UK charts.

Used to hear this tune as a baby/toddler when my mom put on an easy-listening radio station for my nap time, but never knew what it was called until I stumbled upon a 2-CD anthology, "Instrumental gems of the 60's" on the Collector's Choice Music label in a catalog 25 years ago which CD is now in a box in the garage somewhere. Thanks for making it available again.

Always liked this 'song' but never understood the title. What did DC comic's Batman have to do with Kaiser Bill? Today, some 56 years later, I discovered the term 'batman' in the military (mostly British and only intermittently) refers to an officer's personal servant (from enlisted ranks) - having nothing to do with the DC comics Dark Knight character. Now the title makes sense.
I have always had an inquisitive mind, so when I got in the same dilemma as you, I looked it up. Hehe
