I backed up in my garbage bin last Friday. I broke the exact same piece and needed to replace it. Thanks to your video, I had a better picture of what was ahead of me in terms of work and process. I just wanted to express a sincere thank you for taking the time and effort to put up this really helpful video. Really appreciated brother. Take care.
Thanks for your instructive video. Not my wife , but I knew SOMEDAY, I'd probably forget to close the hatch after unloading and drive into the garage....sure enough, self fulfilling prophesy. Still have to heat /re-set emblem and letters , but you showed how to on that also. THANKS AGAIN!
Thanks a bunch, we were a victim of the garage as well, your video was perfect and helped me out a bunch! Fortunately I was able to superglue the brackets back to the piece and fixed it good as new. Thanks a gain!
I did the same thing today. Drove into the garage with the tailgate up. Ordered the parts today but dreading it cause it looks like a pain in the @$$ to work on.
At 11:00 you demonstrate how to remove the logo. But what about the "4Runner" letters? Do you take the letters off the same way? More importantly, how do you ensure the letters are attached to the new handle panel so that they remain symmetrical and look nice/neat (with evenly-spaced letters?) I can't imaging eyeballing it. (Is there a template?) Thanks for sharing.
you remove the letters the same way, as for putting them on the new one, you make a template out of tape! preferrably blue painters tape as it sticks and un-sticks easier... you put it all around on 4 sides where it was on the old one, use a marker to mark spots on each letter and its alignment and you just follow that with the 3m press in place glue to reattach the letters. hope that helps!
First thanks @CTP1111 for the video. I just changed ours out to a nightshade version. As for the letters. After pealing them off the old garnish. I put them back in place over the same spots (the old adhesive kept them in place). Then laid painters tape over the front and carefully lifted everything off. Apply new adhesive on the back of the letters and apply to the new garnish. The painters tape held the letters in place and alignment while applying the new adhesive.
Do you happen to know if it's possible to add an OEM backup camera to a 2010 SR5 that doesn't have a navigation head unit and no backup camera? I want to upgrade my head unit to an aftermarket one that will work with a backup camera, and I'd like to do it as if it was all factory installed. Thanks!
First thing is lower the glass so the panel comes off easier, then the pull strap, then the panel. Obviously the glass needs to go back up to access the garnish panel.
I just bought a 2010 4 Runner the back lifegate handle melted yes melted which was a common problem I couldn't figure what the slime was until others showed the same problem on 2010 's give me a break melted plastic, your video will help me do a repair thanks
Hey thanks...looks like a real pain in the backside. I too did the garage door maneuver. Its good to know I'm not the only one, but perhaps the only guy to pull it off. If you'd known then what you know now would you pay local Toyota dealer $150 for part and $120 for install to do it for you? I'm considering getting part online and attempting myself, although I am mechanically challenged in auto repair. Prob. in my best interest to fork over $270 and save myself from ensuing chaos.
I enjoy working on the car so its not that big of a deal for me, but if you aren't handy at all and don't have the tools $270 doesn't seem like its too costly to be honest
I just finished replacing mine using this video and, even though I am very handy, I thought it was pretty difficult. The hardest part is not shown in this video. In the video his top fastener was broken, with mine, it was not and it was extremely difficult to get that one to come out. I was about to give up until I found where someone else had that same problem and said you have to pull that one out with all your might. That worked but I was afraid that I was going to break something or scratch my paint. If I had it to do over, I would probably have paid Toyota the $120.

Anyone know how to seal a leak around this rear window? I replaced the seals but water still enters.

Just replaced my camera using this method basically but noticed some plastic clips on the inside of the garnish broke up.... so I bought aftermarket ones that don’t hold as well so may need to repurchase the entire garnish. By any chance, is there a rubber gasket or seal of some sort that prevents water from running into the garnish area (where all those cords are?) I didn’t see one on mine (or in your video.) on OEM parts online I did see that a seal is made for it... so wondering if I can have the dealer fix mine if they never included it to begin with (botched custom parts job probably)
@@djfx2008 How did you make your template? I'm considering trying this, but am specifically hesitating because I'm not sure I can put the letters back on nicely.
@@DarrickBLee I measured the space on the old one, and then made sure I centered the whole logo on the valance. (Flat surface not edge to edge.) when I purchased the black logo template it was a peal and stick. This made it easy to measure out the correct space and distance between each letter. I purchased both on eBay. Hope this help.
Just replaced this part and now my door won’t latch. I’m completely confused as to why? All wires are plugged in as they should be and I just don’t understand why replacing this would affect the latch. It work completely fine before I worked on it…. Any thoughts?
part number?

Big big help! Thanks for posting. Thought it would be an easy fix but a a pain.
Mine has a big scratched down the handle, paint on my 2014 and I thought it was an easy replacement. This seems like a fair amount of work!
Really, really appreciate this video CTP. Thanks for taking the time to help out your 4Runner brothers!

There's an overlay on Amazon. Haven't bought it yet, but doesnt look too bad.
@@mjay6567 Do you happen to have a link? I've only been able to find overlays that go over the lettering, not the rest of it.

These come prepainted?
not sure, maybe check around, mine was black so I replaced it with the black plastic part it came with
thank you!

How did you fold just the middle seat down??
I didn't, the rear seats are 2 part fold downs
I’m really confused. The left seat is upright, the right seat is upright the middle is folded down
I’m waiting on this middle seat explanation….. 😂
Are you able to reuse the old gasket? Is it needed?
I would say its needed if you live in a wet climate, and I wouldn't reuse the old gasket
Do the letters come off the same way?
yes they do!
does yours come with a partial seal around the top edges? the emblem and the two straight edges on both side, maybe down a little more?
no you have to buy the seal separately
