- The 3-1, #13 Alabama Crimson Tide traveled to Athens, GA to face the 4-0, #8 Georgia Bulldogs. Following a surprise home loss to the Ole Miss Rebels, there were many prognosticators alleging that the Alabama dynasty was dead. Thus, Georgia was favored to win this game, ending Alabama's streak of 72 consecutive games as the favored team.

My favorite bama season. The first game I ever attended at Bryant Denny was the ole miss game we lost this year my Freshman year at UA. Was great going on to win it all this year
