  • SENATE APPROVES PHP 2.5 BILLION INITIAL PAYMENT OF 3 BRAND NEW AUSTAL OPV-83 FOR PHIL. COAST GUARD
In a strategic move to enhance national defense capabilities, the Senate, under the leadership of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, has approved an increase in the defense budget for the fiscal year 2024. This not only reflects the government's commitment to bolstering security but also signifies a noteworthy allocation for the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), paving the way for a substantial leap in maritime protection.
The increased budget for the PCG, totaling Php2.8 billion, is a testament to the government's focus on maritime security and safeguarding the country's vast coastal areas. Out of this budget, a significant portion-Php2.5 billion-has been earmarked for the acquisition of three new offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) from the renowned Australian shipbuilder, Austal.

This is a good move as this will improve our maritime security and capability to meet challenges in the WPS. This acquisition will also help the Philippine economy as these ships will be built in the Philippines and will surely generate jobs. However, provisions should be made for the easy convertibility of these ships from coast guard to navy should hostility arise allowing for missiles to be installed and other modern armaments and equipment! Mabuhay Ang Pilipinas at Ibagsak Ang mayabang at gahamang komunistang intsikto!

    Ang gandang balita.
Ang ganda rin ng edit sa video. Mas na-visualize ko yung hitsura ng Austal OPV-83.
Malinaw rin yung total cost, down payment, delivery time period, saan gagawin, at ano yung general capabilities.
Sana may follow up video sa crewing requirement, helicopter/UAV flight deck (ano'ng klaseng helicopter ang mga pwedeng mag landing o pwede bang maglanding at paliparin dyan yung Elbit Hermes 900 o 450), speed versus CCG vessels, maximum days at sea (kung 30 days, may CR ba o may mga kama at kusina ba), and so on.
Salamat ng marami sa video na ito.

17 billion for three 83 meter ships? you can get 4 teresa magbanua class from that. they only cost 4 billion pesos each. even the navy opv with guns only cost 5 billion pesos each.

Sana mas malalaking Barko ang pinapagawa para sa PCG para Multipurpose ang mission

Actually separate project ito. Meron pang nilulutong deal with Japan to acquire additional 5 Magbanua-class MRRV (97meters). Let's see kung kasama ito sa agenda ni PBBM sa state visit nya sa Japan.

What is the use of this kung tatangalan nila ng heavy armament to protect it self against any danger. This will be just a sitting duck to any enemies and will destroy it in an instance. What a waste of resource and money. 😢

All PCG vessels have no weapons because they are designed for maritime law enforcement only, upon which the PCG mandate was established. But because of the recent tension in the WPS, PCG are now studying to armed their vessels with big guns.

The 2.5 billion pesos referred to in the video is only the partial payment for the Brahmos. But the entire project cost 17billion pesos for 3 batteries of Brahmos SBASM
