I remember once Yuqi and Shuhua talking about Soyeon's lyricism. Yuqi was translating HWAA into Chinese, and she was having a time of it because Soyeon had so much double meanings and word play mixed within the lyrics. Yuqi wanted her translation to be just a complex and not just a standard meaning, so she (and a team I assume) worked hard on trying to keep all those subtleties in the Chinese version. Shuhua added on that she didn't fully appreciate HWAA until she read the Chinese version and realized just as complex and like poetry Soyeon's writing was. Now, HWAA was Soyeon going all out on the artsy front, but given what we know about her I'm sure all her songs have that element to them, just not to the extreme.
HWAA is a special case because it's LITERALLY written like a traditional korean poem, but yes, all of her songs have this wit (as you can see in the few breakdowns I've done in my channel!).
Hwaa is a masterpiece. I feel it was (G)i-dle’s peak in artistry. It was such a big masterpiece that all the other songs had to be terrible. Superlady and Tomboy are still decent tho. However Queencard and Wife is just an insult to (G)i-dle’s older songs.

This is why Soyeon is the "go to" girl when it comes to collaborations involving a rap part. All of the "real" rappers want to work with her because she really knows what she is doing. It's unfortunate that she brings actual rapping skills to kpop, but kpop listeners are (generally) not knowledgeable enough about the art to appreciate it.
It's also because real hip hop fans don't go to kpop to listen to rap, it's always subpar compared to real rapping. Kpop fans who enjoy the rap in kpop don't know what real rapping sounds like, or why it sounds the way it does. That's why most kpoppies trying to promote their fave idol rapper only talk about words per minutes and other completely pointless things, and why these aspects are almost completely ignored by real rap fans.
I think most people don’t know how good Soyeon actually is. They probably think her Tomboy rap is how she usually raps. Luckily Soyeon had a good rap part in Superlady, but it was a bit too short.

Wow it's the first time I see a video that covers EVERY aspect of Soyeon's rap! I already knew that the flows she writes are insane (thank you Carkpop) and that she can rap fast as hell, but I had no idea about how poetic her wordplay could be. Really makes you wish you could understand korean and fully take it in
i used to be the biggest anti of kpop raps until I heard soyeon. i'm not an expert by any means but i could tell she was doing something different. always happy to come across videos like this one that allow better understanding of her work, she's really brilliant 💜
I feel like there is a real lack of content that goes in depth about different aspects of gidle's (and the members) artistry and talents (such as videos about their lyricism, music videos, concepts etc..), as i think they are very often underestimated and underappreciated within the kpop community despite their immense popularity. But when you hear Soyeon's b-side songs raps which she made, she has literally multiple ways to deliver her raps - what made me surprised is she can portray the emotion on the RAP depending on the mood of the song which flows like crazy... Listen to her songs Psycho, kda baddest, bad b number, dumdi dumdi, Han, kda more, Dark xfiles... Etc.. many more Ain't no one do it like her - SOYEON the G.O.A.T 🙇

Soyeon is certainly the only female rapper that came close to CL’s status as a famous rapper. I’m not saying that other k-female rapper are not good but yes there’s very talented female rapper but not a lot were able to elevate a group to an IMPACTFUL group while being called ugly being the leader of your group and the main rapper. The average K-pop producer is not a rapper and most kpop rappers do not have standing enough to get a role in production. The result are raps that are in a song just to have a rap. Often times dont fit the song etc. Soyeon as the main producer has so much more influence on how a rap fits a song, it is kinda unfair. But on top she has all the skills needed for a really good rapper, so naturally she is considered the best at the moment.

im very late to this, but as a korean, soyeon's raps are actually REALLY complex compared to other girl groups. when I first heard her rapping I was really surprised by how much she used slang to convey different messages. I'm not sure if this makes any sense but ai told me it does so I hope it does.

Definitely agree with the analysis of Soyeon's rapping! On the speed part however there is a small inaccuracy. You got her sps right, but I'm pretty sure Soyeon is actually the third fastest amongst female kpop rappers (Not including Lee Youngji bc I dont think she counts as kpop). The second fastest one is an early 3rd gen rapper Yezi (formerly from a group called FIESTAR) with her song "No Name" at 8.50 sps And the fastest female Kpop rapper is a much less known 4th gen rapper, named Nature (from a group called DIAWINGS) who reaches 9.88 sps with the group's cover of Dance Monkey (which Nature wrote her own verse to that song and she killed it). If you were wondering where I got this information, Im also subscribed to CarKpop so I'm referring to the list which he made.

I really like G-idles music, and also really apreciate that most songs are written by them (soyeon mostly) and how deep the songs meanings are, however I have to admit I dont really like soyeon, she is super talented but her personality and voice tone just throws me off so much. Id really like that she left some more vocal parts for other members (such as in super lady) and yes, i know they said only she could do that note, but I still think she is wasting the other members talent (mostly their voice) since they all have such pretty voices and she is getting a lot of vocal parts, that she can sing but maybe her voice tone doesnt really suit at all (not in all songs but in a lot).

Totally agree, i think the most enjoyable for me to listen soyeon’s rap it’s because while she rap she actually understands the beat and knows how to play with it. Yes, I know! That's why i kept recommending people to check the sources/channels where i took the technical information from. I could put tons of examples, but I still wouldn't be able to explain it as well as them (I am not a musician/rapper)!

Definitely agree with the analysis of Soyeon's rapping! On the speed part however there is a small inaccuracy. You got her sps right, but I'm pretty sure Soyeon is actually the third fastest amongst female kpop rappers (Not including Lee Youngji bc I dont think she counts as kpop).
The second fastest one is an early 3rd gen rapper Yezi (formerly from a group called FIESTAR) with her song "No Name" at 8.50 sps
And the fastest female Kpop rapper is a much less known 4th gen rapper, named Nature (from a group called DIAWINGS) who reaches 9.88 sps with the group's cover of Dance Monkey (which Nature wrote her own verse to that song and she killed it).
If you were wondering where I got this information, Im also subscribed to CarKpop so I'm referring to the list which he made.

It's because it's a live audio unlike the rest of the video which is straight extracted from studio. I made it like that on purpose because of copyright issues!

I really like G-idles music, and also really apreciate that most songs are written by them (soyeon mostly) and how deep the songs meanings are, however I have to admit I dont really like soyeon, she is super talented but her personality and voice tone just throws me off so much. Id really like that she left some more vocal parts for other members (such as in super lady) and yes, i know they said only she could do that note, but I still think she is wasting the other members talent (mostly their voice) since they all have such pretty voices and she is getting a lot of vocal parts, that she can sing but maybe her voice tone doesnt really suit at all (not in all songs but in a lot).

They pick their part of the song and she's not wasting her members voice(you will not say that if you watch their other songs) All of the members showcase their voice, we can distinguish it or each of theme has identity of their voice unlike other groups, cuz soyeon tailored the song of each member voice. However I understand that you dislike her tone cuz that's not your preference.

Totally agree, i think the most enjoyable for me to listen soyeon’s rap it’s because while she rap she actually understands the beat and knows how to play with it. This is what every real rapper should do. Most of the idol rapper just try to catch up the beat, try to get faster and faster. That’s more like reader instead of rapper.
