Levothyroxine - Mechanism, side effects, precaution & uses

Levothyroxine sodium is available at a dose of 25 mcg , 50 mcg and 75 mcg. It is used for the treatment of primary hypothyroidism and for secondary, tertiary hypothyroidism caused by deficiencies of pituitary and hypothalamus respectively.

How can we diagnosed is primary
Secondary, hypothyroidism??

For primary TSH will be high and T3 and T4 low coz of problem with thyroid gland itself. In secondary problem is with Pituitary so TSH low and T3 and T4 also low. And in Teritiary The problem is with hypothalamus so TRH and TSH and T3 and T4 all will be low. Hope it helps

The dose of levothyroxine is in microgram per kg not jn milligram per kg. mg means milligram and mcg means microgram.

good day,, Im a RAI patient, now i have hypothyrodism,, my doctor gave me levothyroxine for medication. my question is can I take any medicine likes vitamins supliments, medicine for colds, flu,headache while taking up levothyroxine? also food rich in fiber? how many hours is the gap before taking this medicine and food? thank you

Yes u can but make sure not to take Calcium supplements or calcium rich foods and iron supplements and iron rich foods along with Thyroxine tablet. But u can take those foods and supplements 2 hours after u have taken levothyroxine tablet
