that is all.
Taylor J. Williams have u watched euphoria?
@@machelb510 I've been incredibly curious to hear his opinions on Euphoria.
instaBlaster...
i laughed that the black police woman character was such a thankless role.
she did nothing but blankly stare at things the entire season.
Me too. Every episode I asked myself where she is. I thought she was going to make a move on the group but nope
Yeah it’s also not even like you can say she was a great cop because literally the whole town thought the death was suspicious
@@user-hn9fl3mx5h Do you actually know what "literally' means? It means....'actually'.
ANN TUMBLR like literally the hole town did
It sucks too because there is such an interesting story with her and her investigation that was never explored.
I can't complain, actually I can. We never got to see Reese Witherspoon throw ice-cream at Meryl Streep and that's a shame.
patriziapie we were robbed.
"short people problems" I guess.
i don't have anything against Meryl Streep or anything, it'd just be nice to see her get ice cream thrown at her instead of winning another award for something.
bonnie killing perry due to childhood trauma is actually in the book. i’m glad they explored it in the second season.
I wish they had planted that seed in the first season, both because it would’ve given her more depth back then and it wouldn’t have felt like a new invention this season
She killed an evil man who was going to kill her friend... why does she feel so bad about that?
@@TaylorJWilliams Well, not everything needs to be foreshadowed or mentioned. I didn't feel like it was a new invention for this season, it felt more like an expansion. I think the reason why they didn't even mentioned Bonnie's backstory was because they wanted to shock the audience. We spend the entire season trying to find out who killed whom. And every scene we would ask ourselves: Was it her who died? Is he the murderer? And putting Bonnie under the radar was the best way to surprise us. At least, I was surprised. I really thought she was a minor character.
Lucas Santiago if the justification for the argument is oh it was on the book though then yeah it’s not right because we’re not reading a book we’re watching a show regardless of if it came from a book you can’t do a script and expect people to assume what’s in it lol
@@cj32pull2 I never said that. And yes. Two different medias. But like I said, I thought they didn't give her a backstory in season 1 so she could be under everyone's radar.
"speak to the manager type people"

karens
I love that he didn’t say Karen’s actually. And we all know what he means
Meryl Streep’s character and the storyboard were written by Moriarty. The show approached her about it, and she wrote a new novella to be released that provides the basis for the season.
I am extremely sad Madeline didnt have a lot to do this season. I really liked her in the first one. Im very glad that Renata was not butchered.
Renata was butchered as well. In the first season she was a complex character, who tries to be friendly and sociable but comes across as very fake despite her best attempts. In season 2, she's just portrayed as a rude, one liner-screaming, out-of-control shrew - a caricature compared to the Renata from the first season.
My biggest problem with the season was I couldn't buy anyone feeling guilty about killing Perry lol
Most of them weren't.
Yeah only zoe kravitz was
I don’t think they’re we’re supposed to feel guilty I mean they killed a person but perry did horrible things, Bonnie was the only one that did bc she was the one that pushed him and was dealing with the intentions she had with her mothee
Why should they lol
I think it was more about Bonnie dealing with the psychological trauma of killing someone and the anxiety of being found out. I think it’s also easy to say “I wouldn’t feel guilty about killing Perry” when watching a show but irl I think the situation would psychologically fuck with your mind, if that makes sense?
thank you for this. honestly, the fact that the detective plot got dropped towards the end really irked me. she just made little cameos that did absolutely nothing.
Ironic that the show is about women being screwed over, then they screw over the female director. I mean, Kelley, duh?
It was originally a book, a brilliant book, written by a woman. It's so much better and I highly recommend reading it. It's nearly 500 pages but you could finish it in a day.
@@nefertiddy4855 oh yes, Moriarty, I definitely want to read it, the books are ALWAYS better right? :)
@@user-ef5id9km3p Entirely my opinion, yes books are pretty much always better, they give you a whole new understanding of it but I still respect the fact that not everyone has time for them and just want to relax by watching a show/movie at the end of the day.
What else is new in Hollywood? Female directors are notoriously screwed over on their projects.
So many shows that would have eternally lived as classics if they just had one season. True Detective, Prison Break, Stranger Things, now Big Little Lies
KiKillian season 1 was already bad
I'd add Orphan Black and Killing Eve to that list.
Stranger things needed a season 2, not a season 3 tho
Big little lies deserved another season to see what happens after Perrie’s death and to see all the new relationships changing
and I even hope for a third season tbh. It’s one, if not the best tv show ever made
@@kenzirkel1584 Lol. Killing Eve 2 was brilliant.
Josh Reidy Look at how Freaks and Geeks is revered these days despite being cancelled after 1 season. The best thing to happen to that show in terms of its place in history was only having 1 season.
The biggest problem with TV today is that most shows are written for one season without a real plan for multiple season arcs. Time and time again I start a great new show and am totally enthralled through the first season. Then we get to a 2nd season and you could see they had no idea where to go and the shows jumps off a cliff as the characters and plot points become absurd.
Bloodline is probably the best example of a show that has a fantastic first season and should have stopped there as Season 2 and 3 are utterly ridiculous.
Big Little Lies Season 2 has great performances so it wasn’t worthless. The problem is the overall season 2 arc really goes nowhere and you realize after the finale that it was pretty pointless.
Your spit on! The show Imposters on Netflix was a complete and total let down second season. It literally felt like they were throwing shit at the wall to see if it stuck. Such a disappointment.
I also agree about the end of the second season of Big Little Lies.. I see ppl wanting a 3rd season but it’s like where do the characters go from here. There isn’t much else to tell.
@@Shalayah2010 I loved Imposters, and watched it back before it was on Netflix. I wholeheartedly agree with you.
Caroline Tindle seriously right? The first season had me hooked. The plot was so interesting.. and then the second season went completely off the rails. The story didn’t make sense. I’m like, where are they going with this the entire time.
I didn't like Madeline's ending, i feel they could have explored better why she did what she did. Since season 1 the show implied that Madeline wasn't satisfied with her life, she literally screamed i want more and it's kind of anticlimatic how that concludes in just her marrying Ed again. They could have dived in more about her frustrations with never going to college instead of putting so much focus on Ed and Tori or Ed and Nathan fighting
I think it was that madeline had to stop thinking the grass was greener elsewhere a bit. Idk if it was the best decision, but i do get her character has been through a lot and had learned to appreciate what she got
Her character was very cliche and predictable in the show. I like that in the book she definitely is unsatisfied with some things but she’s aware of it, she doesn’t have an affair and is committed to Ed.
Bonnie telling Nathan she wasn't in love with him was extremely weird. Nothing in the S1 indicated that she wasn't in love.
just my opinion, but that plot thread felt like the writers realizing what we all did in season 1: there was no logical reason for a woman like Bonnie to be married to a man like Nathan. the two didn’t have anything in common even in the first season. it seems like they’re a parallel to Madeline and Ed...they also got married for the wrong reasons but it didn’t work out for them
I was surprised by how much I could understand Mary Louise, not that I agree with her but I thought it was interesting that she wasn’t just a villain.
me too! But she just do the thing that she even does not really know how was her son, and how did she create a monster! That 's terrible! But many such people around us like this! always use emotion to think, but Not rational and critical thinking!
Underwhelming sure, but "doomed" is way too harsh imo. I'd be curious to see the correlation between people who liked the show and people who have a background in psych cuz it's a fascinating season from that perspective
I think that that is personally why I like it so much. I only have a slight background (and great interest) in psychology
Even in that field there's mistakes. Like Celeste and Madeline sharing a therapist is extremely unprofessional, as the therapist behave with Madeline. Celeste's ark was good, but Bonnie's aftermath are just too plain and poorly constructed.
It’s not though. It’s so tropey, the characters are so predictable and overdone.
@@GG-kn2se agree to disagree ig 🤷🏻♀️
While I admit season two did not match the same level of season one, there was still a lot of good in the season. I really liked Renata’s storyline, overall I enjoyed Bonnie becoming more integral because I feel like it needed to happen. And Meryl Streep was a tour deforce. While not as critically acclaimed It was still very entertaining throughout the entire season and I wanted to know what would happen
man honestly the whole season was so underwhelming. why in the world would ANY limited show try and do a second season is beyond me. limited shows are the absolute best, and they goddamn ruined it
I agree with this. I loved Season 1 and was so blown away by it. The moment that the second season was announced I thought it was unnecessary. It should’ve stayed as a Mini Series and be remembered as a classic. If Season 2 did anything, it made me appreciate Season 1 more.
I dunno, I think sometimes we set first seasons of things we love up on a pedestal. You expect the same, and when things change, well...you get videos like this.
Such a disappointing season. They took it from an intelligent murder mystery to basically a courtroom drama. I also never got why they had to keep the secret either for all season 2. Just tell the police that the violent and abusive Perry attacked and that you defended yourself, hence his death. What's so wrong or criminal about that? Like, the whole core premise was so weak.
They were in shock which is why they initially lied. Then they lied to the police and coordinated the lie between them. This is obstructing an investigation and conspiracy, which are both crimes. That's why they didn't tell.
Fernando Sanchez I know, but it's such a weak plot point to drag out the season with. Especially considering their crime is not being truthful, and you don't feel there is that much at stake really. Sure it's criminal, but it isn't the end of the world either. If it was something darker, like one of the girls intentionally murdering Perry while he was minding his own business and the others covering for them, I'd be into it. But this is the reason there wasn't any need for a second season - the first one was perfect and didn't need to be fleshed out more.
@@Loffeleif You do know that for covering it up they would ALL probably get jailtime? Thats a lot at stake if you ask me
it would seem premeditated since Celeste bought an apartment
In the book Bonnie tells the truth in the end and after everything is taken into account it's found out that the balcony Perry fell off of did not meet the safety regulations required by the building, she didn't get into much trouble, only 200 hours of community service, which she loved doing. I personally love the book a lot more than the TV show.
I didn’t even know the last episode was the last episode until there wasn’t a new one the next week. I have just chosen to pretend season 2 never happened. Season 1 is still one of the best miniseries I’ve ever seen and I’m not gonna let a bad second season ruin it for me.
I thought S2 was on thin ice when they revealed that the "Monterey-5" had "lied". The whole idea of a lie was unnecessary and to top that there is an investigator who is still suspicious of the five? Meryl Streep made the first half interesting but the finale was so meh that it felt like wasted time.
"Season riddled with loose treats and ideas" is the perfect description. Like Madeline in the first episode working as a realtor with no experience at all at that, and that subject being dropped out after. Or the school, which was so important in the first season (including teachers and teaching) it only serves for some little scenes. And there's so much more. Another thing you didn't talked much about was the editing and cinematography. There were many moment when beginner mistakes were commited, with light, position, color scheme... And the editing was so overwhelming when in the first season was so relaxing.
I think that they should have stopped it at season one.
When you change the structure of a show - taking the mystery out of it, that's a big risk.
Yes, there are things to explore... But it's not gripping. it doesn't have a STORY. it's just the aftermath. There were good themes in there, But what was the point?
I was bored at every episode. SADLY.
I LOVED season one so much.
You should read the book, it wraps up the whole story really well and it's an incredibly fun read.
I think they dropped the ball with Ed's character the most. Personally, I felt that the way they shot and edited his scenes always eluded to him having a darker or conniving side to him. If he did decide to revenge cheat I think that could have gave the season a little bit of an "umph" that I think it was lacking.
I found the Bonnie subplot more interesting than the whole custody plot.
Are you gonna make a video on Once upon a time in Hollywood?
Please cover Euphoria!
I just finished the first season and I really want to hear your opinion.
You are the person I immediately thought about when the finale ended
I'm the only one who thought it was a great season, until I saw this video?
Yes. Lol
Never read the book. Enjoyed both seasons. The objections in this video did not diminish my enjoyment of the overall story. Everyone has an opinion, right?
i remember it being title as a “mini series” should’ve been kept that way. but due to high demand for a season 2, this is what happens. such amazing actresses but the plot was weak:/
I didn’t like Meryl’s performance. Her scenes were random and forced. Yes, she’s a great actress but I felt the writers were too freaked out by having her on set to make her character feel real.
Leandro Moronta that’s probably what you’d do around Meryl haha. Dique her scenes were random
And forced hahahah
She was great, but the screaming scene, altough good perfomance, it was so forced. She, and the rest of the cast coul've shine IF... And then the rest of the video
I agree, however her performance in the last 2 episodes specifically were terrific. The first 5 episodes I kept thinking, "This isn't Mary Louise, this is Meryl Streep." But in the last 2 episodes I finally saw her character come through and I forgot who was playing her.
Tyler, I think I fell in love with you. The way you understand and explain the series... I could hear you speaking about all my favs (and not favs) forever.
Amazing how someone could describe in such a deep way what I thought but couldn't express
I love that you are acting like you were in the room with the second director and know exactly what was said to her.
Insignificant problems to me in Season 2:
1. Detective Quinlan didn't have a much of a prominent role.
2. Abigail's worthless College plot point.
3. Tori Bachman should've had more screen time and a little more prominent.
4. Bonnie's mother plotline didn't do much and felt like it didn't need to be longer.
5. Too much retconing.
6. Not all characters get a happy ending or least an indication that something good might happen.
what made me love season 1 and 2 the most is how humane all those characters feel, yes not much happens in season 2 but just looking at them be is everything to me
They already made the mistake with that ending for season 1, they tried to rectify it with this season, but alas they stretched 6-7 pages to a complete season.
Ed was small in season 1 because the tv series cut his and Madeleine's son, which would've led into a specular storyline to Madeleine's with Abigail, which would've also made his hostility to Nathan in season 2 much more understandable.
And Bonnie's reasoning for pushing Perry was in the book.
son?
@@user-ty3yh8sb5y Yes, in the book Madeline and Ed had a son called Fred, who ended up bonding with Nathan over their shared love of cars, paralleling Abigail's bonding with Bonnie.
I actually felt what you felt. I thought an entire movie would have sufficed instead of an entire season.
what i'm learning is screenwriters need to take more notes from novel authors
This season was written by the autor of the book.
Great video. You summed up very nicely the issues I had with BLL season 2. Thanks for putting this together
Also the whole storyline with Bonnie's mother being some kind of psychic was dumb, cliched, and not a little racist.
I enjoyed it while being aware of its missteps. it is possible to do both.
I love how you described the greatness of the first season!
Can you do Euphoria on HBO?
Bonnie’s abusive backstory was touched upon in the book, so I think Zoe Kravitz and the writers knew about that being her reasoning for stepping in like that. However I agree with you, they should have planted a seed in the first season to foreshadow her prior trauma somehow. I think in the book Madeline’s exhusband mentions it at some point. They could have easily added a scene with that in it.
It could never be as good as season one. But if you can get over that, it was still very good.
Thank you Laura Dern for and Meryl Streep keeping me invested this season, unfortunately i just doomscrolled when everyone else was on screen x
Good video, I disagree that season 2 fell completely flat but season 1 was absolutely better.
Subscription well earned keep it up glad I ran into this and will look forward to watching more
Just felt like this season had nothing of value to say. Even though a "fallout" should be expected from such a circumstance, it still felt unnecessary.
If they were so eager to cash more on success of S1 (which I still love), they should have made just a two parts TV movie. In S2 there was like three episodes time where there was something new actually happening. The rest was just an attemtp to make MEME moments to make people talk about it ("Meryl screams! Renata screams! Reese throwing ice cream!").
I truly felt the missing tightness. This season is a bit...boring.
Taylor! You can pronounce the two l's in Vallée like you would in english. He is french not spanish lol.
These Hollywood interviewers keep leading me astray in pronunciation
Céleste character was the best in this series, Nicole Kidman portrayal of a lost and broken mother was impeccable...
I haven't watched the video yet (I'm assuming it will be about the mess of production that happened), but I still gotta say.... Nicole Kidman. That's it. Just Nicole Kidman. She was enough for me honestly.
Excellent review, I mean they literally should have hired you to co-write this season, with Moriarty. The Ed and Bonnie storyline, and the twins and Ziggy, like when they beat up the school bully, would have been so interesting to follow.
intresting look into how broken promises changes a followup for a different creative. and good use of showing house of cards & mindhunter without mentioning fincher.
I was wondering, I didn’t think the 2nd season was bad but it was so choppy and now it makes sense. Still love all of these actors and actresses. True talent 🎭
I'm so happy that HBO has decided to not do the same thing with "Watchmen", as they've stated that they are not going to pursue a second season without showrunner Damon Lindelof's involvement.
Taylor did you watch Broadchurch? It's a really good show. I feel like the second season is exactly that, an aftermath of the events of season 1. But they did it such a nice way and added SO MUCH to the story that it didn't feel like just a sequel.
With Big Little Lies I felt so compelled by the story I remember I bought the book and read it after the first episode because I wanted to see what they were going to do. A second season felt utterly unnecessary. I've only watched the first episode and don't feel like watching the rest - specially after your review.
Gabriela Broadchurch is such a good show. They knew how to deal with the aftermath in such an effective way that it didn’t feel like an afterthought.
@@jackierosas9593 I think it's because the writer always envisioned Broadchurch as a trilogy, so he knew the development of the story from day 1.
Meryls Streeps charachter wasn't created by the TV writers. it was created by the original book author. Lillian Moriarty wrote that role for Meryl. as she said she didn't want to write the sequel but the only thing she wanted was to create and give the role to her favorite actress.
I think broad church is how you do right the idea of a season 2 following almost exclusively the fallout from a first season
An #advertiser pays an influencer to trash going to the police over murder, 'becoming good,' as a character plot, and says Streep's character was best part, complete with most cruel words.
Hi Taylor, you're video was deeply interesting to watch, as usual. I just want to point out that the character of Marie Louise was written by the author of the original novel - whose name I can't remember, shame on me - and also written with Meryl Streep in mind. The producers asked the author for some sort of mock story that they could work on and develop into the final script. Cheers!
Watching how insane meryls acting choices were gave me such entertainment
I hated the addition of Meryl Streep's character and I hated this season. I didn't even get past the 3rd episode. I was bored.
Dark Carousel yeah you can bring your ass and get fuck the out of here dark carousel? Haha dont watch the review if you dont even like the show, the fact that you clicked in says a LOTTTTTTTYY about yourself sir.
It was a predictable ending to season 1. I gave up after 15 mins on season 2 the story was told on season 1 and there was nothing left
Excellent and enjoyable work, thanks. Quick peevish note: aggravate is not a synonym for irritate. To aggravate is to make worse. We cannot get aggravated by you.... but you can aggravate a sense we have of, say, frustration with product placement or something. Your staph infection can be aggravated by dirty clothing, but a scratchy shirt doesn’t aggravate your otherwise healthy skin, it irritates it, the experience of which can be aggravated by your stress level at being annoyed by a parking lot attendant etc 😉
The second season could've been better, but I didn't hate it. The writers could have given the audience a more in-depth look at the characters especially Ed, and Bonnie who struggled the entire season but we're only given brief flash backs and a general idea of her past. Ed was another character I wanted to learn more about.
Anyone else think it was possible that Ed and Tori did secretly have revenge sex, though it skipped right passed Ed's consideration, to him and Madeline renewing their vows?
I'm pretty certain that Killing Eve is show that changes directors each season. At least that's what I read!
Yes, thank you!

I just finished the season. You make a ton of good points. Many, didn't occur to me as I watched. I did enjoy season 2, but yes, the ending just didn't make sense to me. I looked at it through Celeste's plot: She JUST won custody of her children and then she decides confessing is a good idea? Again, you bring up that yes, they probably would confess at some point, but it's all internal reasoning and it gets muddled from what we just saw. That said, overall, I enjoyed watching the season and I didn't find the episodes boring. I approached it knowing it was "let's recapture what we did in s1" and was entirely written for TV. That didn't bother me. I went in knowing it wouldn't be AMAZING, but I still had fun.
I loves season 2. I thought it was done very well and still very interesting and fast paced.
I would really love to hear you talk about Mad Men, The Sopranos, and Breaking Bad.
Brilliant review.
What a fckin awesome video. Great analysis! Captured my thoughts so perfectly and so much better than I could have wow. Multiple points you brought up are exactly what I was just texting my friend about.
Are you done being in front of the camera, or is this just for the longer television season reviews?
The more the merrier is a good movie (despite some consent issues not aging well). you should check it out if you haven't! With Jean arthur and Joel McCrae
They are saving those motivations for the third season
Bonnie having been a victim of domestic abuse when she was a child is something taken from the novel. I don't remember if it was the father in the book, but regardless it was changed a bit. But yeah, this was just aftermath. It was like they adapted the very last few things in the book after Trivia Night and added a lot of things in there too, such as Mary Louise and Jane and Celeste and Madeline and, yeah...
Yes, it was her father in the book.
@@DrGregoryHouseIT Thanks for the confirmation. I wasn't wrong :D

I loved both seasons, especially the second one.
Agree with most of this. If not for these individual actors I would have stopped. And despite genius of MS, her character also threw the season off kilter by pulling away from the previous leads.

This explains a lot.
I read the book loved it, saw a couple peeks at the series, and was like WTF?! MADELINE HAS AN AFFAIR?!!!!! NO!!!
I’d love to see your thoughts on Euphoria Taylor, keep up the great work
6:12 I wouldn't use the "Harry Potter" franchise as an example of how "each film looks different due to different directors." After Alfonso Cuarón made "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban"-the best film in the franchise-then every "Harry Potter" film after that was made to virtually copy the look and feel of Cuarón's third "Harry Potter" film, no matter who was the director.
I’m gonna have to respectfully disagree. Yates established a look for the back half of the series that’s pretty distinct, and his work with Delbonnel on HALF-BLOOD PRINCE rivals Cuarón’s work with Lubezki on AZKABAN, each standing out for different reasons
One of the best series I have seen. Acting superb, atmosphere excellent, filming, casting, scenario, all perfect! Complex, thrilling, beautiful surroundings. What else does one want? 10 more seasons!
I knew it was a mistake from the moment they announced it. No original source material meant for unnatural dialogue and a frankly a non-existent plot. Just weird
I got an HBO ad before this lol
