It is flugelhorns playing the lead at the beginning and up to about half way when the trumpet section changes to trumpets. Thats how the mellow sounds of the flugels get such a wonderful effect.

It's a flugelhorn so it sounds more mellow compared to a regular trumpet. If you have a super focused sound and play perfectly in tune then sometimes it can sound a bit like a flute I guess

Flugel horn. Same key and technique as a trumpet but larger tubing and so gets that great mellow sound. Used a lot these days in smooth slower numbers@@xen2605
