What's crazy about the trainer talking about the SS anne, is that the biggest rumor in the entire school in 1999, was that mew was in the truck next to the SS anne..

how in the hell did people even find out how to catch Mew in Blue and Red
Nobody finds out by himself. A man from japan, worker by Nintendo, put the Glitch into the Internet in 2003 or 2004 i mean.
Mew was thrown into the game code since there was a little bit of memory left on the cartridge and Morimoto must have added it in as a Easter Egg, since it is not required to capture Mew to complete the Pokédex. In fact, the Game Developer in Celadon doesn't even recognize Mew when you speak to him. He was there to be unlocked through special limited time events as this is Nintendo's fun little way of getting the community together and has been the case in later games. The only way to get Mew legitimately is to attend the events and obtain a code. The fact that Mew is already hard coded into the game with it's data just sitting there, it only took a hand full of hackers/glitchers to find the registry value of Mew and index it into the game. There is a very famous "catch any Pokémon glitch where you can manipulate which Pokémon spawns by changing the index and tricking the game into loading a Pokémon, that's how this trick was done and why Youngster and Gambler are used to move registers around in the memory since they too point to a specific index.
In short, this shit is very Mathsy and you're lucky we have nerds that played around with it until they cracked it.

Acyully, some people opened the programming codes, to find that there is a glitch to battle any pokemon, each pokemon had a way according to it's number in the beta kanto pokedex, so every pokemon will appear according to the level of the opponent trainer's pokemon, while doing the glitch, and the level of the glitch wild pokemon according to how many attacks you did to kill the trainer pokemon.

I kind of miss the old Pokémon games with the 2d sprites and I remember playing Pokémon red, emerald, and gold too when I was younger and enjoyed it since I could do more stuff after finishing the game like going back to kanto in Pokémon gold. Now it's just getting the eight gym badges and that's it. And I never found mew or celebi in the old Pokémon games either.😅
Dylan Tefft yeah thanks, I never played pokemon sun and moon or ultra sun and moon anyway, and going back to explore kanto again after beating the eight gyms in gen 2 was really fun too when I played pokemon gold when I was younger. Even Pokémon emerald was fun after finishing the game too especially that battle frontier was amazing too. But I'm thinking about buying pokemon let's go pikachu/eevee too for the Nintendo switch since it's a remake of the original pokemon yellow game and I never really finished that game either and pokemon sword and shield looks really great and interesting so I might buy that later.😃😊

It's 2020 and I am now pledging my life to get a gameboy. I really love the gen 1-3 games.
If I'm not too late, get a Gameboy Advance. It plays all the GB and GBC games, and it's newer so it's less of a hassle to get a hold of. Or you could just get any newer handheld, put a Gameboy emulator on it, and play things that way. My 3DS runs an emulator that lets me play all kinds of older games.
Alternatively, you could play it on an emulator on a phone or tablet. If you don't like the touchscreen controls, they have gamepad accessories that you can buy.

I still find it funny that mew from gen 1 via glitching in the manner this video shows cannot be transferred to Pokemon bank....yet obtaining a celebi via box glitching on gold and silver can be.
Pretty sure the reason is that Celebi is now obtainable on every copy of the 3ds versions while Mew was a Japanese 3ds version event exclusive.

hey i was such a noob at 10. I thought my starters cut and flash. I didn't know what the moves did, or that it would be permanent. Internet wasn't a thing and i didnt buy strategy guides
i wanted to do the mew glitch with the bug catcher on route 6 and I somehow got a trainer battle instead of Mew, and lost. Because of the glitchy map script, when I wanted to try this again, route 6 was completely unplayable. I then tried my luck on route 7, and the same thing happened. No idea what is going on here. Do these maps share their script data or something? Or maybe I was playing on a terrible emulator? (I also noticed the inventory cursor was off)

8:55 I had the same problems when trying to catch Articuno in Fire Red. It kept spamming Mist and I couldn't catch it (and wasted all my Ultra Balls and got it in a Great Ball).

Where's Celebi from 3rd generation?
Actually, in all languages of the Virtual Console version of Pokémon Crystal, you can get the GS Ball after becoming Champion, so it technically isn't illegal; also those who were in Japan during the Old Sea Map event could obtain Mew in any language version; also Celebi can only be obtained in an event in Gen 3
