  • On today's episode, the HLN Team talks about veganism. Luis recently shifted away from a purely vegan diet, and the HLN Team discusses their own personal experiences with diet, as well as with the associated identity that can come from dietary choices.
    They discuss:
    · why Luis is no longer vegan
    · centering what works for the animal body
    · how veganism can be both a diet, as well as an identity and a political perspective
    · having flexibility to change, and to be honest, in group social situations
    · navigating identity and expectations

It's ALL about animals for me. Nothing to do with politics. I call it plant based nowadays. Have you visited a slaughterhouse lately?

  • @user-ym4dt3tv2h

As someone with serious blood sugar problems I really struggled for the 2 years I was vegan. I was so reliant on carbs to feel full my psoriasis was the worst it had ever been as well. I needed animal proteins!! I felt some shame and guilt for not being able to go the distance.

Veganism is a religion. And as Oscar Wilde says about converting to religion, it’s a way of feeling better about yourself without having to accomplish anything.

  • @VeganowledgeJJ

I am sorry you had to deal with a lot of hate, what I wonder, inside my mind, I see lots of video titles, when people go in and out of vegan, to me Vegan is about animals, I think once I made the connection that a dog or cat wasn’t different than a cow or pig, I can never just un-do that. There can be parts that you don’t agree with because of politics or policies for the environment however that is what I don’t understand how you can simply take that title on and off of compassion for all living animals? I know, with a lot of nutritional studies that I can get everything I need as can everyone scientifically without eating living creatures, I am willing to listen to your thoughts thank you

  • @naturalselfcanada

💚 some beautiful things brought to light here. Wouldn't it be amazing if we focused on how we agree as people, and not how we differ? And let our fellow humans eat what they choose?

  • @andyswarbrick9991

99% your reasoning is around yourself & health. A person who is vegan for the animals would have consulted a plant based specialist to diagnose issues. I have heard none of that, absolutely nothing. Eating some meat might help you confirm there is a problem. But that information could have been given to a plant-based specialist to help you retain your plant-based diet. Very sad you didn't go down that road to maintain your ethical claims.

And I am STILL a non practicing vegan! And still not lame! Bahahaha! Love this legend ❤❤❤❤

  • @AW-zp7od

So you possibly needed DHA, but couldn’t synthesize your own. You didn’t test that, and you didn’t even attempt to take algae supplements which have what you need while being vegan?

  • @AW-zp7od

You don’t “be” vegan because of race politics either. You be vegan instead of eat vegan because veganism extends to using animal products outside of just eating them….

  • @ivaveazey9631

Yes, beautiful. I could write volumes here, but will refrain :) When who we are and what we do becomes political and unchanging, we lose our humanity. Love Love Love this

Vegan is politically satisfying, keto is nutritionally satisfying.

Thank you for sharing your story and journey, Luis. I resonated so much with what you talked about, although some of my details are different, the underlying thread is the same. It takes a lot of courage and introspection to decide to release an "identity" that no longer fits. I will no longer cause harm to myself to "prove" something to myself or others. I'm secure in who I am, and my worth and value doesn't depend on what I eat.

Wow the freedom❤ beyond words… so much light thank you for this sharing ….how rich and comforting to hear…

  • @kacze9234

For me veganism was all over when I realised that I do not want anymore to try to tell the world what it should be.

  • @tabiwellness

Thanks for this, it's so freeing to lose all the labels and just be.

  • @sabrinasundari

    loved this conversation!

  • @annelewis7435

I am so sure this popped up for me as a gift and answer to my prayers

  • @mirellamatotek4294

If veganism was the more humane and evolved means of eating then I would expect to see concern and empathy for their fellow brothers and sisters at the forefront of their concerns. It seems veganisn is fueled with the same poison (hatred) running through the blood of radical religious cult groups. So glad you were able to free yourself from the group think and understand how to nourish your body to be of service to humanity at a much higher level. Crises are the pressures to grow. Congratulations for stepping up to the challenge. ❤

  • @cassclare

Its easy to be vegan until your health falls apart and you can no longer keep a job or get up a flight of stairs.
