As a sheep producer I just want to point out that usually the safest and smartest thing to do is just stop and shut your vehicle off. The sheep will clear you faster than trying to inch through them and have them dashing back and forth across the road in front of you.

I remember when I was in Germany, A sheepherder stayed around were we had ammunition bunkers and the dog would let the sheep stay on the road until he saw me coming down the road with my truck, he would wait till I got about 50 feet from them then the dog would run out and move them off the road so I could pass. he was allowed to let his sheep inside the perimeter to cut the grass, the only bad thing is they pooped all over the place.

I dont know where this is but it look like an area i passed through in wyoming on the mirror lake hwy going to evanston.
I was stunned suddenly by a sea of sheep. I did not drive through as these people did. At least not at first. I got out of the car and stood still. Soon surrounded by sheep. I realized they are shy but mildly curious. I noticed their calls and sounds differed. There seemed to be leader and followers. The calls seemed to be between groups or families. It was a fascinating experience. I met 2 shepards and their horses and wagon on the other side resting under trees. They told me it was about 2000 sheep
