    Klymit pillow is pretty legit, had it nearly 3 years. It's a beast. Tip: slightly under inflate it so it absorbs a bit of the movement and doesn't slide as much. I also wrap my buff around it to make it a "regular pillow" :"D

    I got the Klymit luxe pillow for $25, the Luxe SL pad for $75, an REI compressible stuff sack for $20 (free after coupon), and a Kelty Cosmic 40 degree down long sleeping bag for $77. For $177 its a great backpacking option for 3 season use. I have a 0 degree bag, huge self inflating pad with a high R value, and better pillow for freezing weather use.

      Ya I gotta do a new video for under $200. Kelty is making even cheaper bags now and the REI stuff sack is a cheaper stuff sack option that isn't much different than the Sea to Summit.

    I don’t really use compression sacks. I just stuff my bag or quilt straight into my pack. Because it fills up all the nooks and crannies it actually takes up less room...

    • @JonConti
      @JonConti  Před 2 lety +1

      Really now! That's interesting. I think I need the sacks to organize all the gear I carry but if I was one of those ultralight people with just the essentials I could see that being the move for sure. What bag do you use?

      For colder weather trips I use a 0* Hammock Gear quilt, (econ).
      In warmer weather I go with an Aegismax down bag that I use like a quilt. (It doesn’t have the mummy bag style hood).
      I do use lightweight dry bags for clothes and ditty bag type stuff, (poop kit, 1st aid, electronics, etc), but the sleeping bag is often the bulkiest thing in my setup. Without a compression sack, it fits AROUND all my other stuff, as opposed to being a solid ‘ball’ that leaves empty space all around it.
      Of course, I also use a compactor type bag as a pack liner in case of wet weather to keep everything dry too...

    • @JonConti
      @JonConti  Před 2 lety +1

      @@happyfuntimereviews5600 Hammock camping was my first plan for winter backpacking! I did a TON of research on the hammock thing. You use a hammock or just the top quilt?

    • @happyfuntimereviews5600
      @happyfuntimereviews5600 Před 2 lety

      @@JonConti
      Hammock all the way!!
      So much better sleep than a tent.
      Of course, you will also need a quality underquilt if you go that route. A good winter hammock set up will usually be a little heavier than a tent system, but the sleep comfort level is off the charts.
      In the summer, with lighter quilts, the weight is about the same as a tent. A bit more of a learning curve as hammocks require a lot of tweaking and fiddling to get them just right. But, at the end of the day, it’s so nice not to have to sleep on the ground. Once you get your system figured out and dialed in, setup is quite simple.
      I do use a tent from time to time, if I’m hiking in an area without many trees or hanging options. But I definitely prefer hammocking.
