Charlie Hopkinson is a comedic impressionist, impersonator, voice guy, whatever you want to call it who specialises in voices from current television shows and films. His standup is a character act about a retired maths teacher, his standup set includes impressions of Sir David Attenborough, Robin Williams, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Peaky Blinders, Tommy and Arthur Shelby and Gandalf from Lord of the Rings.
Always looking to update my roster I look to try out subscriber suggested impressions in the impressions challenge series before honing the best ones. Recently I have added Peaky Blinders and Marvel / Avengers characters to my arsenal!

I started learning impressions in 2012, at the age of 20. You can follow my full impressions journey in my new ‘How to do impressions’ tutorial series
After graduating from the University of Warwick in the summer 2013 he took 4 months out to concentrate on CZcams videos full time, including producing his most viewed video to date ‘Morgan Freeman and 40 other impressions’ with just over 12 million views. This foray into being a ‘full time CZcamsr’ was cut short as he went travelling for 3 months before starting a 2 year teaching Graduate scheme with Charity ‘Teach First’.
While teaching he has performed in and narrated the 4 episode series ‘Lookalikes’ as Morgan Freeman. The show and the narration received a positive reception. The show aired on Channel 4 during the prime time slot of Friday 10pm for three weeks. It is now currently available on Netflix. Charlie also performed with other well known impressionists for an unaired pilot.
Charlie has worked for several prominent brands in relation to their products, including google and formula 1.
Since the summer of 2016 Charlie has once again dived into the world of CZcams, for the first time producing content on a weekly basis. He is also focusing on live performance; he has performed in live venues a total of 3 times to date.

I really am impressed with you as a person and comedian. Thank you for bringing entertainment without attempting to instigate toxic hate comments. Its been uncomfortable watching this show as a minority. Where I simply want to get away from everyday life and be entertained by a tv show - I find myself increasingly obligated to defend minorities. Your content has been a refreshing reminder that you can create entertainment without the hate.

I haven't watched any of the episodes but have worked out what has been going on from the reviews on CZcams and these roasts. Seems like there is more value being had from the reviewers than there is in the actual show.

Galadriel throwing 4 trained guards who had the advantage over her into a cell without any trouble was more laughable than the Orcs trying to hit Arondil from 50 feet with an arrow and still missing with nothing to for him to duck behind.
Notice how it was jump cuts and we didn't get to see her implied badassedness? It would be a lot more believable if they actually choreographed some action.
But she had the power of girl power, only thing stronger than that is the power of love & friendship. That's why they lost, the guards weren't good enough friends, or in love with each other.
Actually there are 5 guards. Rewatch it.
That has got to be the worst directed/choreographed action scene I have ever seen.
The guards just agreed to go in voluntarily for whatever reason. What is dumbfounding is that even if they agreed to go into the cell it would have taken more time seeing that two of them stood in the way of the door that opened outwards. It literally could be among the most stupid scenes in the history of cinema.
In the next episode Gandalf will reveal that he is Dumbledore

I don't think normal people watch ROP. Tolkien fans like me avoid it a long way. On the other hand, watching movies that make fun of ROP is very enjoyable. This is one of the stupidest shows I've ever seen. Nevertheless, the actors who play Elrond and his friend the dwarf are very nice and waste themselves there.

Well, first they paid 400 million for the rights and the others 600 million is being spread out over five seasons... So it looks about right.

But then no one ever said all palantirs behave in same way. So the show makers had that leverage but of course they should not have done it. Most viewers are crazy fans of books or the movies, they shouldn't deviate too much at all.
@@summbart5394 I am almost certain that palantiri, also called seven seeing stones, were created as means of communication . At least that's how Dunedain used them. I think that's a big point, unless Valar is communicating with Numenorians in the show through the palantir? Not sure. Also, pretty sure there were no palantirs in Numenor, how'd it get there? 😁
I honestly don't really care and I'm not a huge die hard Tolkien book fan but, the show is just poorly written. Jackson's trilogy had so many deviations from the book and yet, it turned out incredible. I guess the biggest issue I have are the dialogues i.e:
Galadriel: You have not seen what I have seen.
Elrond: I have seen my share.
Galadriel: You have not seen what I have seen.
Anyway, apologies for long reply and at the end of day, this is all entertainment. I hope someone finds this show enjoyable😄

I think when it comes to quality this show is on part with The Hobbit movies expect bad and good parts are spread more evenly. And some people on internet milking the fuck out of every tiniest mistake like if this show is the worst thing that happen in last several decades and not just another bad Tolkien adaptation.
It says so much about this show that the Orcs, who probably got very little Direction/Writing hints are legit better actors and more compelling than anyone else in the cast, on the simple basis that these actors are just emulating what they saw in Jackson's Lord of the Rings...
These writers have the touch of Midas, if everything Midas touched turned to fresh horse shit.

Not having come across your channel before I thought this was Ian McKellen do his own mockumentary on the new shire-show while rocking a bad wig. When he put his legs up on the coffee table I was like - wow, his legs look really young for his age though I was surprised his surroundings weren't more sumptuous - he just seems the sumptuous type. Then it pans to the doll with the Elron's face...and it all made sense. It's scary what can be done with technology. Freaking brilliant and very funny though I may need to order a gullability protection spell from Amazon. ;)

I grew up reading Tolkien, I've always loved the lore. I had no desire to watch rings of power. Now I'm actually happy they made it. Without that particular travesty, I would have never stumbled upon this gem! I'm absolutely LOVING it lmao! Love love love 😘

Gandalf is so on point here. How on earth did they spend so much money on such poor dialogue? One of the things that stand out from the Peter Jackson adaptations, especially from Lord of the Rings, are the great speeches and conversations that never make you cringe or feel without cause. A lot of times watching this show, I'm just trying to keep my lunch down.

I have yet to see anything that can be considered meme-worthy or universally inspiring in Rings of Power, just the idea that stones apparently sink because of eyes looking down nowadays, and that Galadriel should stop eating mushrooms that make her see shit.
@@beltashazzar5277 One of the biggest problems in The Hobbit, among many, was how the Dwarves managed to get through so many near death experiences and floating down rapids in barrels with nary a hair out of place. And no way Bombur ever fit in one of those barrels. (I know, it's a moooveeee... )

Parasitic storytelling at its worst. My jaw honestly dropped when the whole anti-elf Numenorian thing popped up. It was possibly the most clumsy, most inept, most hamfisted forced insertion of personal politics into a story that I have seen. This crap feels like it was written by a child.

Look, the Lord of the Rings has always been more high minded and epic than this show presents it as being; the big moving pieces, not the minutiae. Disputes are about ancient wrongs, kin slaying, a failure to recognize grand evils, a slowness to act due to shared sorrow and the resulting ennui, etc. It is not and has never been about some Amazon show runner's petty politics and anti-nationalist sentiment. The whole "Them knife ears took our jerbs!" angle is ridiculous, miniscule in scope, and is honestly something I could see popping up as a joke in in a circa 2004 episode of South Park. It demonstrates a complete lack of ability on the writing staff's part to disengage from their agenda and personal views in order to deliver a story based on the themes Tolkien presented in his works, which is evident in every aspect of TRoP. Lord of the Rings is not about turnip harvests and a thinly veiled political screed masquerading as labor disputes between the local potters guild and bloody immigrant workers, and the fact that this, of all things, was the best they could come up with as one of the driving forces for conflict in their story is pitiful. Sad and pitiful.

Two of my brothers are watching the ROP show I am not. They have been giving me crap all along telling me I’m too much of a fan boy to enjoy it. I haven’t responded much to them, it’s not really worth it. Instead I sent them these review videos and now they understand more lol

"I need a new Staff" yeah... about that.. Gandalf.. I rewatched the first movie yesterday... and it hit me... how DID you get your staff back? Saruman took it away from you, you didn't have it at the top of Isengard, nor when you escaped riding the eagle... but, when you met up with the others at Rivendell.. you did. :)
They made him a new one, if you look carefully you will see it has a different shape

@@wulfheort8021 As I looked I noticed a pretty awesome detail. I couldn't tell if it was also a feature of the 'new' staff but on the old I could see his smoking pipe tucked into the top of the staff. Talk about adding details next to noone would ever notice.

The whole bit about the tree had me dead. I was cackling.
The orcs looks great in terms of their costume design, but too dry and/or clean. I expected them to be more grimy. I still remember the 'birth pit' at Orthanc from The Fellowship.
Yeah, the scene where Galadriel casually escorts the armed guards into single jail cell was pretty hilarious. It was like herding sheep.
That's because it's about flipping the narrative. The original tales copied simple bible binaries , white is good and pure, black is bad and evil. It's this false binary position that does play a huge role in systemic problems that are reproduced in human society.
Have their been any orcs that were not pale yet? I remember in Jacksons depiction they came in varying shapes, sizes and colours.
RoP though from promo material and on screen Ive only seen distinctly pale orcs. Almost like its a conscious decision by pathetic cowards in order to deflect any comparison between their depiction of orcs and certain real world groups....
The names in Tolkiens books are pretty easy to get mixed up. Some of them sound almost exactly the same and just the sheer amount of people in his stories is incredible. Also why did Amazon make more characters?
Because they don't have the rights to anything from this time period, or at least very little rights.
Also anything depicted about this time period in books and other primary sources is to much spread acros time to make coheasive story that is not taking place over centuries. That seems like tha basic idea, but execution is hard.

Also... didn't the orcs that had Pippin and Merry run non stop for about three days when Aragorn was chasing them? They didn't stop running during the day and were out in the open sunlight.
@@FightCollective I'm pretty sure it was the uruk hai who took merry and pippin. They don't have the weaknesses that orcs have, if i recall correctly they were half men and half orc.
