This reminds me of Hellfire from Hunchback of Notre Dame. It's less scary but sadder with that same tone of tragedy and conflict about a man catching feelings for the *WRONG GIRL* and having no way of dealing with it properly. It can only end badly.

I don’t see Gleb as an actual villain... He was a Bolshevik officer, law and his superiors said he had a duty, yet he couldn’t finish it because of love. He was torn apart from the beginning because he knew Anya was really Anastasia. An antagonist, yes, maybe, but not a villain.
Exactly My view as an Antagonist is different from an Absolute Villain like in the Movie Rasputin is an absolute villain, not just a simple antagonist And if I may relate this to Hamilton He is like Burr He had no intention of causing distress or hurting anyone

He still sees her as a child because she was that child that his father was ordered to kill, and now he's facing the same order. He doesn't act out of romance, but out of remorse. His lines are super up to interpretation and I get how people could think he was in love with her, but I guess I just didn't see it that way.
There's maybe the smallest amount of ambiguity in these lyrics, but taken along with his other songs and lines in the rest of the musical I don't think there's a lot of support for this interpretation. But then I'm a sucker for a good "conflicted villain in love with the heroine" storyline and wish they'd put a bit more emphasis on it so I'm biased :)

But the love triangle is admittedly more dramatic, so.
I kinda like your interpret. Falling in love with her never sat right with me because their in person interactions seemed so limited. So I do feel this makes more sense. He's probably projecting a LOT of emotions onto Anya.
I think he is fascinated by her and is in love, but romantic love is not the only thing he feels for her - it`s also a genuine compassion towards another living human girl who did nothing wrong.

Yeah, and I like the character Gleb better than Rasputin(cause let’s face it, Rasputin’s just a creep) plus I’d say Gleb and his character arch (that he, apparently, falls in love with Anya/Anastasia) isn’t something just randomly thrown in there. According to reports, there was some flirtations between Anastasia and her sisters with some of the Bolsheviks who were guarding them in the “house of special purpose”.

Another thing is in the movie it shows Rasputin helping the anti-religious Bolsheviks win the Revolution which wasn't true at all, in fact I was also surprised to learn that Anastasia's relationship with Rasputin in real life was a very respectful relationship

I've been waiting to hear the music for this for a while so when I found that it was out on my computer I couldn't wait to hear it. I've been desperately wanting to see it, but since I don't live in New York it's kinda hard. It has a haunting beauty to the melody. I love it, and Ramin's voice is amazing you can hear the torment in his voice.

I am torn... I love the animated movie. It was my favorite movie when I was a kid, and I was disappointed that they removed Rasputin from the story. It seemed to me that they had a perfectly good villain to use already and then they decided to create another one instead. But I have to say, as a fan of Ramin Karimloo I was glad to hear he was cast in this production. His performance makes me feel things.

Easily my favorite song from this musical Ramin Karimloo gave such an emotional performance which moved me so much. You can hear his emotions in every word.... MY smile during this performance was so wide just because of the fact that I was so close to someone I truly admire but my eyes were watering up so much because I got so emotional :'D

Madeleine Miyashiro they are both in pursuit of the protagonist, they're both under the military (well not really for Javert cuz he's more of an inspector/police officer), they're both strong willed, and their motives are similar too in that they must accomplish their mission only because it is their "duty". The only difference is that gleb is influenced by his father, while Javert is influenced by the law. I don't even know if i made sense lol but i hope you got what i meant. i've never actually seen the show and the animated film.
Well not exactly,both of them fallow the law but the difference between Javert and Gleb are their motivations and the relationship with the main character:Javert always saw a Valjean like a thief from beggining to end and follow him through like 20 years always thinking that Valjean is a bad person and never have compasion for him, till the end of course and kills himself for being confused of how a person like Jean Valjean be good? And then Gleb's motivation of persuit Anya is not only because is his duty as a Bolshevick soldier and order him to do it, it's also because his father was one of the guards who kill the Romanovs and for him feels like a legacy that he has to follow. Julieta Gibert i consider gleb to be a lawful evil character. he replaces rasputin as the antagonist for the broadway version because they decided to make it more historically accurate. if you've seen les mis, his character is similar to javert. gleb's morals get blurred in his attempt to fulfill his duty for russia. as an officer for the soviet union, following in his father's footsteps, gleb tries to track anya down once he realizes that she's truly a romanov. however, he ends up torn between whether anya truly deserves to die and what it would mean for him if he didn't kill her. i dont know if you wanted spoilers or not so i kept it a bit vague, if u have any further questions im more than happy to answer, i just watched this live recently so my memory's pretty solid

The character singing is named Gleb Vagonov, played by the INCREDIBLE Ramin Karimloo. He replaces Rasputin as the antagonist of the show. Gleb is a Bolshevik officer (I believe he's a general). In the song The Neva Flows, it's explained that his father was one of the soldiers that executed the Romanov family. Gleb has orders to kill Anya (Anastasia), as she is seen as a threat to the Revolution. However, he is conflicted by his growing romantic feelings for Anya. Well not exactly,both of them fallow the law but the difference between Javert and Gleb are their motivations and the relationship with the main character:Javert always saw a Valjean like a thief from beggining to end and follow him through like 20 years always thinking that Valjean is a bad person and never have compasion for him, till the end of course and kills himself for being confused of how a person like Jean Valjean be good?
And then Gleb's motivation of persuit Anya is not only because is his duty as a Bolshevick soldier and order him to do it, it's also because his father was one of the guards who kill the Romanovs and for him feels like a legacy that he has to follow.
But in the beggining when he saw Anya for the first time falls in love with her and he see her as an ordinary russian woman, but when he observed her "romanov eyes" he starts to suspects and being torn bettween his duty and for his love for Anya

Anya, Dmitry, and Vlad are taking are fleeing the Soviet government and hoping to convince Anastasia Romanov's grandmother that Anya is Anastasia while Gleb (the guy singing) is chasing them.
“Still” think they could have kept Rasputin, Barton, and In the Dark of the Night, and added Gleb in there too.

Julieta Gibert i consider gleb to be a lawful evil character. he replaces rasputin as the antagonist for the broadway version because they decided to make it more historically accurate. if you've seen les mis, his character is similar to javert. gleb's morals get blurred in his attempt to fulfill his duty for russia. as an officer for the soviet union, following in his father's footsteps, gleb tries to track anya down once he realizes that she's truly a romanov. however, he ends up torn between whether anya truly deserves to die and what it would mean for him if he didn't kill her. i dont know if you wanted spoilers or not so i kept it a bit vague, if u have any further questions im more than happy to answer, i just watched this live recently so my memory's pretty solid

Julieta Gibert i get how you feel, i know a lot of people were annoyed because it's different from the story they grew up with but personally i prefer gleb as the villain because he felt a lot less one dimensional and he had legitimate motives

The character singing is named Gleb Vagonov, played by the INCREDIBLE Ramin Karimloo. He replaces Rasputin as the antagonist of the show. Gleb is a Bolshevik officer (I believe he's a general). In the song The Neva Flows, it's explained that his father was one of the soldiers that executed the Romanov family. Gleb has orders to kill Anya (Anastasia), as she is seen as a threat to the Revolution. However, he is conflicted by his growing romantic feelings for Anya.

Nah I wouldn't really call him a villain cos there is no malice there, it's pure duty and he actually seems to have a heart, plus I wouldn't say it's like he'll fire, it's less sexual and he genuinely seems to love and care about her whereas Frollo just wanted to fuck Esmeralda and doesn't care about her

There is absolutely no sexual attraction. He sees a parallelity between his father and the Tsars and himself and Anya, and through this he almost sees her as a sister, after all they were both children during the revolution and the assassination
