I did the same, just know that Greece is a country that requires a lot of patience. You will find that Greeks will treat you as a foreigner from the way you speak Greek and the fact that you married someone who is not Greek. These are the uncultured Greeks. Find cultivated Greeks that are more open-minded when moving and don't be phased by their nonsense and discrimination. I tell you this from personal experience.

Work-life balance is not that easy when working from home as many people think. They're are a few downsides, like either concentration to work or losing track of time and overworking, depression, conflicts with family members and more. The reason is that the limits between work and personal life are not clear any more. I hope you have found your balance.

As a Greek I can say a lot about this video... Greece experienced a huge recession in 2010... Unemployment rocketed and thousands of young people became immigrants to Europe...
It is wrong for a European to come here to work... It's just suicidal, it won't go well...
The only way to live here is to have a steady income or to earn money from jobs abroad, which is practically what you do by working on the internet.
For the Greeks this is a good idea too, to save them from emigrating abroad... But you need an excellent knowledge of English and an open mind professionally...

On another note, if you haven't already, please get a full physical checkup from your doctor. Being out of breath could mean a lot of things, or nothing at all. I thought I was invincible until a few weeks ago, when I had a 'Heart Calcium Scan' (I scored 462), which revealed medium to advanced heart disease (arterial plaque). My guess is that this test is performed only at some of the largest medical institutions in Athens, Thessaloniki, or Patras, etc. I was also diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. My symptoms were being out of breath a lot. Yasou apo to Cleveland, Ohio area! Na se kala!

    Gaia sou file mou!
I lived on Crete in the 70’s. Met my future wife in Sitia. I’m English, she’s American. I moved with her to California. Had to also adjust to a new country, broke, with a baby. Started a job that I hated. We had more children and prospered but never forgot our beautiful life on Crete. We retired and almost fifty years later commissioned the building of a beautiful 70 foot boat in, believe it or not, the Uk. I am writing this, a foreigner in the land of my birth, from that boat. The boat is named Sitia. So yes my friend, you are not alone in your peregrinations - and the struggle was indeed real.
But what an adventure it all has been. The adventure continues.

Making your own opportunities as you go through life, passionate about greece, I am myself but at a tourist level, I would move there in a heartbeat, but the residency requirements for us being from the u.k. and the new updated €4200 a month financial rules, its impossible for us..
We stayed 8 weeks on kos last year and when it came time to leave it felt like I was leaving home and yet my home is in the u.k.

Καφενείο, it’s not an easy job. I live in the US, and the situation is not any better. All the jobs moved to China, Mexico, or out of the country. It’s not like before when with the industrial manufacturing. And then who wants to punch a timecard, working in a factory ? The US became a service economy too. I’m already retired now, but I’m wondering for the newer generation what are they going to do, even if they graduate from college. I guess the new technologies may help.. I heard for Universal income, provided by the government. Myself I have some properties investments that helping me financially. My Social Security go towards child support, because I still have two underage kids.

@@MyGreekLifestyle I feel like this is something that I could do. I’ve created dozens of tracks in different styles using an app on my iPad… I don’t know very much at all about DAWs, and I know there will be a learning curve. Just saying it out loud. I’m a Greek American living outside of New York City. My mother is from Maroussi which is just north of athens I really enjoy your channel and I really love the way you speak Greek, and how much love you have for the country and the people.

Well done Daniel you managed to get through the difficult situation. Greece needs people like you. Your greek accent is very good btw. Unfortunately, Greece has become unliveable for the average greek person and more will leave the country the following years. It's not just about jobs and earnings, but for many other reasons that probably your missus have already explained to you. I live in uk more than 10 years and although I was thinking to return many times during that time, now I'm sure that I don't want to, even if I earned more than here, because of these reasons. Take care and enjoy the good things in Greece.

You ask people in general, why they have moved to Greece.
During the whole 90’s I travelled here several times a year, mostly to my favourite place in Greece. All times of the year.
I went to language courses where I lived and tried to find out, how this society was put together.
Finally I decided, that in stead of drifting back and forth between countries, I could as well move here permanently and practice my profession.
There has been some surprises on the way, and because I don’t have a Greek wife, children and family here, I am not assimilated in the way you are, but I get along fine.

    Hi, Greek was my dream
Country since I visited when I was 10 yrs old.I would like to know how much money do you need to earn to have a comfortable living?

    • @Kastoraki
      @Kastoraki Před 2 měsíci +1

      Depends on many things
      A) Do you have money to buy something in order not to pay rent?
      B) Where do you want to live? Athens or something small? Something touristic?
      C) How many persons are you?
I live in a suburb outside of Thessaloniki, here an 3 bedrooms apartment costs 120.000 € minimum, to rent 500+. In Athens is at least double this figure.
Gasoline 1.8€ per litre, supermarket for three persons (of course depends how much you eat) let's say 400€.
Public schools are not good so usually parents pay private lessons.
Same for public sector healthcare but private doctors are as expensive as in UK or US.
Generally speaking depends a lot but let's say with 1500€ here in Thessaloniki with your own apartment and car (15.000 km/year) for 3 persons you can live but not with crazy expensives.

I am thinking to buy a property in Greece as investments and for retirement in future.
I have few questions and I hope you could give opinion!
1- Is it worth buying there?
2- is the health services good?
3- As a foreigner with long experience in the country what are the things I should look for before buying a house.
