Andy, been a Drummer/Percussionist for 35 years, and wanted to open myself up even more as a musician, so I recently picked up the Bass. This seems really unique, looking up 12 string bass you mostly see 4×3 or 12×1, not 6×2. Pretty cool

Very nice! Quite a full tone with lots of sustain. I was expecting a different kind of 12-string bass, like the one Tom Peterson of Cheap Trick or Chip Z' Nuff of Enuff Z' Nuff plays with the two octave strings for every root string. Regardless, I like this too! Ever thought about getting an 18-string? Granted, you're getting some amazing tones now, but add another octave string for every root, and that would totally take things to a whole new level!

I have never played an octave bass, but I really want to try one. They have such a cool sound, and I don't like that people see it as such a one-trick-pony. I could feel that sound in rock and metal as much as I could in funk and solo bass work.

And for those of us who would probably not have a need for this (although this thing is beautiful), thank goodness for octavers! LOL. Andy seemed to get annoyed about people saying that octavers would be the same thing! This thing does sound damn cool when slapped.

you are the first person I've seen playing a 12 string that is not covering Jeremy by Pearl Jam. Thank you. I am now convinced that a 12 string is my next purchase.
This is a different kind of 12 string tho.
zaphbrannigan This is a 6 string double course bass while the bassist for Pearl Jam uses a 4 string triple course bass. They both have 12 strings, but the one that Andy Irvine is using has a larger range of notes.
This is a double-course 12-string bass tuned Bb Ee Aa Dd Gg Cc. Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam plays a a triple-course 12-string bass tuned Eee Aaa Ddd Ggg.

Is it considerably heavier than usual 5 or 6 string basses? I guess such a bass should have reinforced neck and reinforced truss rod.

Put flatwounds on as your main strings. (E-A-D-G) in combination with the other 8. Just do it. You'll thank me.

It's a really good instrument but isnt this hard to because of the huge headstock and the 12 comfortably angled tuners

Theres no pricings for warwick custom shops, can anyone who's had one give me a rough idea of how much something like this would cost?
This is an amazing instrument. Have you ever played around with the tuning of the octave strings? I have an 8 that I tuned the A-D-G at 5ths instead of octaved, and I love it. If I ever have that chance to own one of these, I will.
