Tetrarch Dammek is already one of Hiveswap’s most controversial characters, and he hasn’t even said a word yet. Lets see what we can learn about him using Classpects as a lens, and in the process explore how, and why, Alternia became the hellworld Joey comes to know.
I know I’ve been rather soft on him here, but let’s be clear: Dammek still really sucks for Xefros. Here’s hoping Xefros will learn to stand up for himself and Dammek will learn to treat his friends better during this adventure!
Today’s question: Do you think trolls who commit cruel deeds like Dammek, Trizza, Ardata and Zebruh are completely damned, even if they could never freely choose to be better?

Very insightful look into Dammek's actions! He shares many traits with other Thieves in the series, such as how he treats Xefros being similar to how Vriska treated Tavros or how Meenah controlled her team. This doesn't make them necessarily evil or bad, but it means that they need some time and care to help them develop into better people for the benefit of their friends and themselves. It's going to take these trolls a lot of time to find out their true selves in a world and culture that tries to prevent that and deliberately makes their lives miserable all because of a demon who wants nothing more than to conquer and destroy.
I think when Xefros said he "had a boy he liked", he was referring to the fact that he was in a relationship with Dammek.

i honestly thought he´d be more of a bard so it would make sence that he ghosted breath and rebelled against troll society since he would be *destroying* troll society as it is and attempt to change it to a better place for lowbloods, such fitting the passive destroyer alignment, also he could also be connected to the bard archetype since he also writes music, which, can sound a bit off but if we look at both of the canon bard´s in homestuck (gamzee and cronus) they were also linked to music making on their interests, gamzee and his raps and cronus with his "romantic" songs.

Yep! This is all subject to change if new information changes things later-I'm operating on the presumption that Classpects are A) Clearly signposted in the text of Act 1, and B) Mostly provided so we can better understand the characterization of the characters.
My main stumbling block on Dammek as a Prince/Bard is that those classes have always come with references to royalty and aristocracy, which Dammek doesn't really seem to have anywhere in his text. I also haven't seen him linked to the key verb "Destroy" or variations like "break" in the text, though I could definitely be missing stuff.
It's entirely possible the entire framework for how I approach classes is wrong, though--which I'd find pretty exciting since in my experience when I've got stuff about Homestuck/Hiveswap wrong, its because WP was thinking of something better. So time will tell! :D Thanks for your thoughts!

The line of dialogue about Xefros acting out scenes his favorite movies "which just so happen to be HIS favorite action movies too!" has often been taken to mean Xefros has been pushed to liking them by Dammeck, but what if Dammek only likes them because of Xefros? Just a thought.
As a page myself I can conclude that we always end up with a thief in our lives. For better or for worse.
I might be not a thief, but as a rogue myself pages have some weird relevance on my life choices. Luckily they were benefical so far.

My constant mood
Your little infobox about the trolls' sign Aspect and sign caste's Aspect made me understand something interesting : On a Discord server (sadly for you guys, it's a French one), some people like to give a Classpect to multiple things based on their personnality. And the Hiveswap's trolls are no exception. They wait for the Friendsim to start discussing the characters in it, as they would have more points. But they have a hard time with Tagora and Vikare. And it's mainly because they don't understand WHY do these characters have the Aspect they have. But what if it's because the trolls have spent too much time trying to act like the True Signs ?
Yes, Mind does seem to be manifesting as a predisposition towards pretending to be something you're not--putting thought into how you present yourself to others, so to speak. Tagora's connected to it by blood and trade, but he's able to play the role well enough to leverage it to maintain his real passions--the interior decor and skin care stuff.
Vikare, on the other hand, seems drawn to lying about his true feelings out of desperate instinct. It's just how he handles the pressure of Alternia, apparently. It's made them harder to understand I think, but its also interesting, especially since I've traditionally struggled with understanding Mind. Feels like I'm slowly getting more of a feel for it.
Finally, someone who doesn't bash this boy for being mean, manipulative, or abusive. I love him so much, you don't know how much it means to me to hear what I've been trying to tell people about him. Sure, what Dammek does is unacceptable on Earth, but on Alternia, he is actually being quite over-protective.
His moirailagence is unhealthy, kinda like Gamzee's and Terezi's kismessitude after some point (its supposed to be about bettering yourself through mutual hatred, not abuse, and moirails are supposed to stabilize eachother, not only take)

I 100% agree with analysis, although I also considered Prince a strong possibility, since as a rebel he is also about breaking down social constructs and rules, and both Princes and Thieves are very Active Classes with a bias toward exploiting others even if they don't want or mean to. And on that theme, I'm not surprised a lot of this was dedicated to explaining Dammek's viewpoint, since you're also a big Dirk fan.

So...this is another case where your Roleplay Theory overlaps Dahni's Inversion Theory, yes? As according to her, a Knight of Breath would be the opposite of a Thief of Blood. That's very interesting to me, especially when you also consider your theory that Trolls are societally biased toward the Aspect of their caste's "True Sign" - as a Bronzeblood, for Dammek, that would be Breath, same as the Summoner (and Tavros, can't forget the actual best and most charming leader in Homestuck canon).

But yeah, your thesis here is absolutely right. All of these people are victims of a society that is specifically constructed to exploit them, and worse, the Hiveswap trolls are all (in the view of this society) expendable chaff that exist solely to make the existence of Doc Scratch's 12 destined suckers possible. They're *literally children*, and they're all in desperate and oppressive situations, even the ones higher on the hemospectrum. They're not always going to do the right thing, or the smart thing. If people don't realize that after reading Homestuck...hoo boy.

My understanding is that Dahni considers Page the passive class, and Knight the active, unless that changed recently. So she'd see Page as the Thief's "inversion", if I'm right? And the Aspect/Blood Caste bias theory isn't actually mine, to be clear--Wakraya.tumblr.com was the first to notice it, I just happen to agree.
I did initially consider Prince or Bard a strong possibility, and that hasn't entirely left me yet. But if I'm going by Archetype associations, Dammek has several outlaw ones and none linked to Royalty or aristocracy, so it tips me a certain way. Haven't seen him linked to the verb "destroy" in any notable ways quite like I've seen "take", either.
But we agree completely on what matters--Alternia sucks, Vriska is an experience unto herself, and Act 2 will be awesome when it eventually comes out. Thanks for the comment! :B
Oh yeah, getting my theorists mixed up a bit. Anyway, I like Roleplaying a fair bit more than Inversion largely because it's more flexible, and Homestuck is all about flexibility.
And yeah, going off of text clues, I have a hard time pointing to anything other than Thief for Dammek. I originally twigged onto Prince because the way he handles his main personal relationship and his job as a leader seemed similar to early Dirk (slash AR), but it's also very similar to Vriska's thing with Tavros. I also figured that Blood as representative of order and social structure meant that a rebel would Destroy it. However, it makes just as much sense for him to Steal it, especially, now that I think about it, since he's subconsciously or not taking advantage of his rebellion to put himself in a position of power in a *new* social hierarchy (currently just him and Xefros).
Yeah between the video and talking through it, I'm convinced.
I was also considering Thief of Blood for Trizza, but honestly, she pretty much has to be an Heir at this point, doesn't she? Barring future evidence.

So regarding the classpects, I had reason to believe there were a different algorithm to the inverses. For examle, pre-retcon Vriska seemed to inverse into a Page of Void. Makes sense considering how post-retcon Vriska was so disgusted by her.
Wasn't Alternia designed by the Beforus trolls to be harsh and terrible to prepare them better for Sburb? Or is that like, another grand manipulation by Doc Scratch?
Good question! The Beforus trolls only Scratched their session, since they couldn't win theirs. Echidna (the mother of monsters) told them the next world, Alternia, would give them a better chance at winning, and that promise was fulfilled through Doc Scratch, who became the troll homeworld's first guardian (he wasn't on Beforus), and guided trolls to be more violent and combative, thus making the Beta trolls the general badasses they are.
I've also seen theories about how dammek may not even be a bronze blood, with the hint along with his lusus, about trying to adopt others.

Oh heck noo I just realized I acted like a thief of light from first to sixth grade. I would get super attached and possessive of those I deemed worthy (most of the time they would react, in my dad's words, like a 'spider' was on them), and I was super light-oriented by learning all the things about a new subject and slamming anyone I could in the face with INFORMATION (ok I still do that). I'm pretty well on record as thinking Dirk's actions are not like Bro's, and the way things went down with Jake has less to do with him as it does with Hal/AR, who I feel is a much better reflection of Bro. I wanted to point out a pattern, that manifested far, far worse in Bro than in Dirk, and I think I see the continuation of the same pattern with Dammek. The sunglasses don't help.
Hold on. Aren't Hal/AR the same person as Dirk? He said it himself in his "I don't want to die" Monologue to Dirk. They're the same consciousness. Dirk had the same potential to act exactly like AR did, and would have and always will do so if he's in the same position as AR and Hal. I've always imaged Bro to be another splinter of Dirk.
Well, Hal's an unreliable narrator, and besides that he's not a splinter of Dirk as we see him in the comic, he's a splinter of Dirk from when he was 12.
Aenbr They have the same basic soul, so they are in a sense the same person. But Dirk's actual choices are consistently nobler, because Dirk grows and had friends he wants to be close to and learn from. It's the Heart/Mind dichotomy-Dirk isn't AR anymore than Vriska is (Vriska).
They might start out with similar parameters, but the decisions they make and life paths they follow still set them apart.

Is anyone else seeing a really strong parallel between Xefros and Dammek's relationship and Jake and Dirk's?
I see a pretty strong parallel between Vriska and Tavros. Jake and Dirk's relationship is considerably more complicated, and I'm personally well on record as thinking the actual abuse Jake suffered came from AR, not Dirk. But the fandom perceives quite a bit of overlap between all three pairings, yeah--I've definitely heard as much before.

Ok, so a few things. First off, I’m surprised that Cohen managed to pull a Hussie and pack all of this baggage into one relatively small Act. Second, I really enjoyed how well this video uses Homestuck plot points (such as LE) to help explain Hiveswap stuff. Third, and on a completely unrelated note that may or may not be bragging, I always love when a video has a Ferkol song since he had a song in an HS fan album that I was a manager on and contributed to. Maybe I’m biased, so what? Anyways, great video, fantastic analysis, 10/10.
one thing I've always been curious is his reaction to earth and it's society, l know that Karkat had a very jaded reaction to the lives of the kids on earth but Damiek is far less fond of Alterna and it's system, he would be more excepting of it. I don't know but I'm just curious and I can't wait for more hiveswap and hauntswitch to see what next.

It's interesting to see how Alternian society, under the influence of Mr. Milkshake, is basically cultivating Kierkegaardian despair, which stems from a misunderstanding of self. The lowest level of despair, according to Kierkegaard, is being despairingly willing to be a self you’re not. Which is basically the entirety of Alternia. Oof.
I feel it's likely that Dammek and Trizza will get redemptions within Hiveswap, Ardata might get one depending on how big her role is, and Zebruh's probably gonna remain a one-note parody.

The characters' True Sign's Aspect and the Aspect assigned to their Blood Caste both seem to be represented in each Friendsim' characters text. So for example, Cirava is Derse+Hope and a member of the Goldblood caste, so they have some traits typically linked to Doom. I tried to elaborate on the relationships to each aspect that the friendsim trolls seem to be exhibiting.
I'm not sure any aspect in particular governs Sweet, Sweet meat, but Diemen is Derse+Hope and his relationship to hotdogs certainly seems hope-coded, so Hope in his case. But we'll talk about that later ;)

Both breath players and blood players seem to be tied to protesting. John abit less and on very insignificant matters (con air, personal distaste to the batterwitch’s products, his father not really liking harlequins etc) but blood players are seen in near permanent active denial of how status’s should work in their society
it seems that pages and thieves tend to have bad and poisonous relationships, especially moirails
