Nice Packard! Sounds and drives like a Packard ought! I’m jealous!

That solid, quiet sound of a Packard!

What a wonderful old Packard ! It looks like it is fun to drive. I have driven many old cars and believe me, they are NOT all fun to drive. Everything seems to work the way it should. Congratulations on owing such a great piece of history.

These are the kinds of car videos I like. No annoying music but just driving down the road. This Packard's straight 8 engine purrs quietly. Great to see all of his factory gauges and the speedo working (I hate when people attach gauges to the bottom of the dash) It's 150 horsepower may sound anemic compared to the 1960s but they were really powerful cars in their day. There were not many roads in 1949 that could safely accomodate traffic going 70 mph which this car is geared to do.

Thanks so much for the ride. I had a 1940 120 back in the 70s that I drove to work every day on the freeways of Houston. It attracted clusters of curious drivers. At night the speedometer needle would turn red above 50 and get redder as the speed increased. Exceptional quality and plenty of power. My boss was so impressed that he bought it from me.

What's the yellow know on the dash do when you pull it out. I was thinking choke at first, but this is a Packard. Then I was thinking maybe overdrive...

Yes, that is the overdrive control. Push in to engage the OD.
