I cry EVERY time, when I watch this musicvideo. It is so touching, especially, when you have children. I love this song, but can‘t listen to it very often

Yeah I can’t even imagine. It was sad without me having kids 😂

This song is almost all in 5/4
....helps create that uneasy feeling. Especially when it all resolves at the end.....
Steven Wilson is so under appreciated . Every album, werhe with Porcupine Tree, his solo career, Blackfield, or as a producer ( Opeth, Anathema), or a sound engineer ( everyone from Yes , Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Black Sabbath ,to Tears For Fears and XTC). He has the golden touch.

I knew it was something unorthodox but couldn’t quite count it out. He’s definitely a master at creating a mood

Great reaction, it's so much fun to see reactions from someone with such a great understanding of not only the music but an appreciation for the film-making as well. Glad to be along for the ride. I think was surprises me so much about these Steven Wilson songs is how much they hold up to repeat viewings. I pretty much tear up every time I watch any of these videos.

Congratulations... You have been punched in the soul by SW and the "Routine" video. You will never experience music the same again.

    Always brings tears this track.
Steven Wilson has an insane ability to produce amazing music with such poignant lyrics.
Check out Anesthetize, live at Tilburg….

Look up the story of Joyce Carol Vincent and then listen to Steven's album HAND. CANNOT. ERASE.
"The album is written from a female perspective, and the concept and story are inspired by the case of Joyce Carol Vincent, where a woman living in a large city dies in her apartment and no one misses her for over three years, despite her having family and friends."
It won the best Progressive Rock Album of 2015.

What!? That’s absolutely wild. I’ve got essentially the whole album suggested to me and in the queue lol

after you do "the raven that refused to sing" animated video then i'd suggest everything else live. all his bands are absolutely phenomenal live. If you like Jazz or Jazz fusion, then one of the greatest pieces I have ever heard is Steven's "Luminal" live from Mexico. That will be played for centuries -- it's that great. Also "Watchmaker", "Holy Drinker", "Harmony Karan" and so many more from his solo work. Then there's his porcupine tree catalog. Watch everything live. "Anestisize", "HATESONG", "Cheating the polygraph", and so many more great songs.

Great reaction man I think you picked up on everything really well. Now you have seen the video you might want to check out the live version from the Royal Albert Hall london. On or maybe off channel. Its an interesting comparison when the video is not predominant and the performance, particularly by his Israeli collaborator Ninet Tayeb, is amazing even though its actually a rehearsal. The lack of an audience in itself is quite moving. Its on YT look it up.

Steven really knows how to pull those emotional strings! For a darker but great video check out Storm Corrosion - Drag ropes. A collaboration between Steven Wilson and Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth. Also recommend Opeth - Universal thruth.

Absolutely excellent recommendation! Just recently discovered Storm Corrosion myself. Was watching some interviews with Steven and Mikael together, and they were trying to figure out what genre the album fits into, and I think their description of 'psychedelic folk' works great.

Someone must've already said about Joyce Carol Vincent and the history of this album. This song (the video, in particular), is about a widow trying to cope with loss and grief trough routine. And kinda how we usually try to process things like that, and not exactly facing it. The widow lost his husband (a professor) and their two childre (students) at a mass school sho*ting. Pretty much recomendded everything for you lol, but Drive Home, Pariah and The Raven That Refused To Sing are must hear. Pariah also incluides Ninet Tayeb (female singer in Routine).

    • @rwesleyslaven
      @rwesleyslaven  Před rokem

Yeah someone else filled me in on the back story. It makes sense that the music has that much emotion if that's the source material. I did Drive Home already! It's uploaded. I'll check the others out though!
