I’m sad to say, I’m one of the ones that experienced these bad side effects from this brand. Not only did I experience hair loss, it also caused skin irritation to my scalp, face and neck. I wasn’t sure at first and was trying to figure it out. I thought well maybe it’s just isolated to me. I told my hair stylist about it a few months ago and i stopped using the olaplex, cut my hair to a pixie and we are trying to get it back to life. She sent a link to me today about this olaplex issue. While it may not affect everyone the same. It surely happened to me.

I have been using Olaplex since 2014 and have never experienced any damage on myself or my clients! I believe in the products and it has changed the hair industry with the patented Bond building technology. I have only experienced healthier, stronger hair!

I have just emailed olaplex with about 30 attached photographs of my broken hair after every single wash since October 2022. I was using olaplex No:3. It has wrecked my hair. I now can't go outside without a hat on. It has affected my mental health. I decided last week to bin the olaplex no:3 as I realise it's ruined my hair. It's going to take months to grow back and I'm very distressed. My hair is an absolute mess.

Mental health which stress and anxiety have lots in common and both can cause hair fallout. I have been using these products since they first came out my hair is fine.
I’ve been using #3 since 2018. I use it as a treatment when I color my hair, or when I’m going from straight to curly. As the other products have launch I have tried them all. I prefer #4C, #3, & #8. #0 is ok , but I don’t see much difference if I don’t use it. Again I only use these products as treatments, when I color my hair or go from straight to curly when my hair needs extra care. I also use as directed, never as I see fit. If it says mid-shaft to ends, leave on for 10mins,no plastic cap or heat needed. That’s what I do. #0 says “apply on dry hair” that’s what I do. I see some comments that #3 irritated the scalp. #3 isn’t for your scalp. Or “it broke my hair off”. Are you using it as a treatment or a conditioner? How long are you leaving it on? Are you using a conditioner after? And are you using it every wash day? Now every product has the potential of causing an allergic reaction, and causing damage to someone’s hair if not used properly, or if your hair doesn’t agree with it. But I remember the tic/toc hack of OlaPlex Buns, OlaPlex every wash day, or Deep Conditioning overnight. Before we condemn a Great Product, if used correctly, let’s make sure we are using it correctly.
No3 is left on for a MINIMUM of 10minutes. It states "the longer it's left on, the more effective it is". 1 hour is the preferred amount of time. Also, there is no mention of applying to mid-lengths only. It says to "Apply a generous amount to towel-dried hair and comb through". No3 is for the full hair length. The problem behind most of the complaints is that you don't need to use the whole range! If you have damaged hair, use no3. Using no3 plus olaplex shampoo and conditioner is too much for the hair. This is likely the cause of added damage. Olaplex are trying to stay in the competitive market with allll the products. Just use no3 and a good salon quality shampoo & conditioner and your hair will love you 😊
Olaplex is an awesome product, it's been used in over 100 countries by millions of Stylists out there, since 2014, without any problems. This was not an Olaplex problem! What 30 people had was probably Covid hair loss known as Telogen Effluvium in which the hair nourishment was cut off so the body could protect the vital organs, the heart, lungs, liver & kidneys. Many people had this type of hair loss from CoVid, but that has nothing to do with Olaplex. I love that Olaplex, used in your chemical services protects the hair from free radical damage, it stops Cysteic Acid from eating the protein out of the hair, that's huge! But it also repairs the broken disulfide bonds, those are the strength bonds of the hair making the hair stronger,. I'm so glad Olaplex, being a responsible company that they are, got 3rd party independent testing to make sure everything is safe, and it was and is! Thanks, Olaplex!

I used olaplex weekly in the correct manner for 8 months. It dried my hair out even more and caused considerable breakage/shedding. The shedding reduced dramatically the next hairwash after stopping and has remained very low in the months since stopping Olaplex. It is very clear that Olaplex was the issue for me

I used 3,4,5,6,7 they ruined my hair and injured my scalp. I invite the “testers” to come to my home and see in person how my scalp and hair reacts with their products. I still have all the bottles I used last year. They can test those too.
