I show you how to get rid of all the chrome on the front forks in a step by step guide of strip down to install using the Harley Davidson manual. More custom work to follow!
All parts purchased from e-bay - Fork Gaiters 49 mm cost £17.99 and £4 delivery. Back gloss vinyl wrap 30 cm x 1.52 m cost £3.89.

Great job. It’s so satisfying working on your own bike. Torque wrench and workshop manual are must haves. You can then tackle anything knowing if you get into trouble there are loads of very helpful and knowledgeable people in the Harley community who will come to your aid. Stay safe and thanks for keeping us entertained in these dark times.
Super looking forward to this build series ! Can't wait to see what you're starting with and then the end product! Good luck with it man 🏴
Well done with the new blacked out forks. They look great. And good luck with the new Sportster, when you get it. Stay healthy and fingers crossed we’ll all be out riding again soon, before the good weather goes!
When applying the wrap, just wrap a small strip about 1/4 inch wide around top & bottom first to stop you from leaving a chrome gap, then wrap round you're main piece overlapping those small strips slightly. I bought some from Ebay & it came with that instructions to do that, gives a nice completefinish. I used my thumbs to squeeze the air out as I went round the fork, but whatever works best for you.
Very good video. I love that you’re including the manual specs instead of just slapping it together with an impact or till it “feels tight enough.” I don’t know if it’s just an old wives tale, but I’ve always heard to never loosen fasteners with a torque wrench or use it as a standard ratchet as it will mess up the calibration. I don’t know the truth to that claim and I’m sure a high quality tool makes a big difference to that, but I always keep a breaker bar handy for that purpose. Other than that, great video.
That little bit of chrome showing is fine. It looks good to me. Nicely done.
Good fun doing this stuff yourself. Keen to see more of the work you do yourself. I am having similar fun with my own ride, learning as I go!
Looking forward to the new build!! Stay safe mate.
Enjoyable video whilst in lock down and working!!!
Man. So good. I'm impressed. Fantastic work.
Nice to have you back , glad your okay !!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nice work! Been watching since beginning. I said back then "getting another bike soon" I'm still saying "getting another bike soon" :)
Nice one mark . Looking forward to many more 😁😁
Looking forward to the new build mark ,👍🏻
Never no it mite inspire us to have a go ,all the best
Cheers 🇬🇧🍺👍🏻,Mark .
Perfect video to help me out on my project!
Nice job Mark 👊
Awesome job!
Hi mark . This is not a criticism . did you use a Torque wrench to undo your brake caliper . Never use torque wrench to use to undo bolts .your damage it .and your torque specs will be out when you come to use it next ..... 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍
Well spotted.
Good shout. Yeah I made that mistake.
Noice man can't wait for the next video 👍 🏴🏴
Nice work shop 👍
Mark awesome 👍 job as always M8 , how's the new baby doing all is well I hope and I'm almost done with the mic set up on my helmet thanks for your help .
The little lady is doing well thanks buddy. Good stuff on your mic setup and more than happy to help.
Great video matey. Please please cover and painted area though (Tank & Fendars)
Great job mate. I have always wanted to do stuff like this, but have been so scared i messed it up. Gives me confidence to see you doing it with real time honest feedback. Was always curious how the forks lined up again to accept the wheel once they have been put back into the trees and pinched up? Great job looking forward to the new bike videos.
Your welcome buddy. I was exactly the same! Even when I was younger with motorbikes my mate took care if all my mechanics. Feels good to give it a go yourself.
AWESOME BIKE!!!!!
WHAT HANDLE BARS ARE THOSE
Looks well...can i just ask what handlebars they are and did you need longer cables...thanks.
Nice video. But isn’t easier to leave the wheel on? En lower the front in total? 12:06
Nice work, where do you got the digital service manual?
what is your fork paint, gloss or semi-gloss black? im thinking of painting my fork but can not decide yet between shiny or satin
Owned plenty of bikes and I always find it easier to leave the wheel, caliper as fender intact and just slip the front end out as a unit. There was no reason for most of the labor you did. All you needed to do was gain access to the fork tubes to slip on the gators.
Nice Gloves;-) if you come to LowerSaxony Germany I spend You some new ones. Very nice work.
Cut the rubber and use black zip ties to connect them to the forks
Hi mate
I need help Harley opens next week I am looking at going and buying a low rider s
You tested it do you think it is a good buy
Hey brother, where did you get the maintenance manual?
Hi can you tell me where you got your tools from please buddy thanks
Where did you buy gartors? What length are they?
Where did you get the repair manual?
What lift are you using in this video?
What covers did you use bud?
what diameter front forks are you running?? thanks-
Great vid! I tried wrapping forks last weeks. First one went perfect second one went to absolute shit 😂
Will be re doing that one as well.
How about adding some black fork caps also?
The caps are not on the shopping list at the moment. £60 for caps and I cant bring myself to make that purchase.
@@Motonewbrider I've justordered some low profile caps from lowbrow customs (America) for $29.95 but obviously theres the import costs...
Oy, mate, I might have missed that in a video, but fyi, every time you undo any of the upper or lower fork bracket bolts, YOU MUST MEASURE AND READJUST STEERING HEAD FALLAWAY. Otherwise you're at risk of high speed instability (wobble) especially taking into account your custom handlebars. Take care.
Nothing in the harley davidson service manual made any reference to this and I read it thoroughly.
@@Motonewbrider manual doesnt cover all possible operations. Just wanted to bring it to your attention. Checking it won't hurt and should take more than 10 minutes.
i got the roland sands ones but havent seens anyone with them on yet
Is that an adonized finish on the wheels?
I can't remember, but are your handle bars custom made?? if not where did you get them from ??
Yesh custom made buddy in the UK from fortress motorcycle. They have a web page etc 👍
@@Motonewbrider Right on man,i just went and bought my first Harley today, got myself a Iron 1200
Who did the tank work on this ?
I've been planning to blackout my forks forever. Thanks for a reminder. BTW you look very confusing at the end, dressed like American, sound like English :D
Would you have considered marking off the forks when you had them off and adding the vinyl then? Could potentially ensure you cover the entire area that will be showing and give you easier application process? Just wondering for when I do it, appreciate it!
May not slide back through the clamps
@@stevengibbs6645 mine did
I did this a while back but left the wheel on. Not sure why u took it all apart.
Good luck removing the forks with that vinyl on there
Don’t use a toque wrench to undo things
Any idea if these forks would fit a Sportster with 49mm forks?
I can not find a video of anyone taking apart a 2016 Sportster 48 front end.
