The Grouchy Nerd teaches Hadrian's Wall, a flip and write in which you play as a Roman general in charge of one of the forts along the wall that made up a boarder of the Roman Empire at its height.

First impressions are that it is as twisted as a former president’s tax returns.
Having experienced it, though, I find it utterly charming and beautifully designed. Endgame gets very busy.
All the Romans sounding like Tony Curtis in Spartacus could put off some. (Mainly ungrateful Picts)
It’s just so damn satisfying to spend one worker and do like 6 things.

one quick note I know this is an older video but you can not use the trade good on your own card. teh arrows point left and right not to yourself like the scout indicators.

@@thegrouchynerdIt sure did! I scored 73 on easy. Not sure if I just got lucky but I guess I need to ramp up the difficulty. I'll definitely be looking to try the campaign they have for it.
I played today, four plays in a row! It's not something that happens to me, with board games. It's so streamlined, and it has that "ooo, I bet I can optimize it even better next time" feeling at the end.
I think this game killed Fleet Dice for me (which, in turn, was less fiddly - and thus better - than Three Sisters). There was always a tad too much fiddliness with the harbor part of the board to make me reread the rules (i.e. watch the video on this channel) every time I picked it up again.. but I have a feeling with this game it won't happen. With THIS game, I might just finish the sheet pads. Ha.
It really is so solid. I agree about replacing Fleet, which kind of makes me sad, because that was my first modern roll and write. But Hadrian's is just so good. And the Captain's actions in Fleet can be extremely frustrating.
I hope you saw that I made a slight correction about Market Goods!
@@thegrouchynerd oh snappidy snap, guess I need to restart the campaign (of which I've only managed to complete the first mission after five attempts).
That makes the neutral card matter (I would always ignore those) and the market points more expensive. Hmm.
So if I got this straight - my card is for pre-setup objective / setup extra resources / scouting..
And the natural card is for alternative scouting / market..but at the cost of extra end of round attacks..
And the fate card is for setup / gladiator fights / alternative free-but-gambley market / and end of round attacks.

This game is over 45 dollars and you have to waste sheets by writing on it? So what happens when all of the sheets runs out? Board no good? Hmm, I think I'll pass.
With 200 sheets, I'd say if you did run out, you got your apples worth.
I also laminated 6 players worth of player sheets so in the rare case I run out still can play.
