    I’m watching this video about three months after you posted it, but I have to comment! I have downloaded hundreds of books from the Amazon Kindle store for FREE because that book is in the “public domain!” I LOVE the classics of English literature. Most books published before the 1920’s are in this category. Even readers who think they only like contemporary fiction might be happily surprised by diving into a classic book now and again! Thanks for your great reviews and critiques! ❤

    Dang how did I stumble upon this channel, subbed! Great stuff! I’ve also noticed that many of the newer kindle books are $30 or so, identical to the physical book cost. Smart to setup alerts with these services because you’re likely in the middle of a few books and can wait for a deal

    I signed up for Book Bub years ago and have been really happy with it. They’ve introduced me to way more books than I could ever read.
    I also like their audiobook division, Chirp Books. It’s a separate newsletter, and none of the books go down as far as free, but it’s a similar set-up, though all the audiobooks are bought through their store and are played with their app. ALL the audiobooks there, even the ones not in your email, are on some sort of a discount. I’ve been really happy with them, too.

    I'm also a fan of BookBub and Daily Kindle Deals/Kindle First Reads. Thanks for sharing your other favorite free & cheap digital book sites! 📚 When I first started using a Kindle (it was their 2nd Gen), all the books were priced at $9.99 which was nice, but I don't recall them offering free or discounted prices at that time (I could be wrong 😏). Guess we have to take the good with the bad. 🤓

    • @dylancanread
      @dylancanread  Před rokem +1

      Definitely! It probably all evens out in the end. Now that you put it that way, I’ve scooped up enough of those $.99 or $1.99 deals to not feel too bad about a $15.00 ebook 😊

  • @chrisconnors7418
    @chrisconnors7418 Před rokem +8

    Nearly all my ebooks I download from the library.
    Every couple of years I do the one month free kindle unlimited trial and download lots of books that catch my interest.
    I also put books on my Amazon wish list and then buy them later when the price drops (i’m willing to wait a couple of years or more). The list is also a reminder of which books I’ve wanted. I’ll look at the list and then check the library to see if they’ve now got the book.
    Pretty much the only books I now buy are reference books that I’ll use for work or for my side gigs/hobby. These are books that are too specific for libraries to obtain so only real choice is to buy them…which is fine as they’re really good quality and useful and even look good with detailed photos and diagrams.

    • @dylancanread
      @dylancanread  Před rokem +1

      That’s really smart! A little patience + the Libby app/a library card really does eliminate the need to buy most ebooks! Admittedly, I’m still working on the patience part 🤣

    I mostly get my books from Libby/Overdrive or at least I check there first before I purchase. I've had good luck with book bub and booksy in the past although I haven't used them as much this year. I've used Prime Books which has some decent reads for prime users and no committment unlike kindle unlimited.

      Definitely and Amazon actually states this below the price on the Kindle app.
      If you are willing to wait some new titles will be pop up in the daily or monthly deal.
      For example I have collected all the Terry Pratchett Discworld series as one title would pop up on the monthly deal.

    When reading on my new Kindle I would like to know how do I turn to a certain page? Say I'm on page 120 and want to go to page 145 how do I get there? Do I have to turn page by page until I get there or is there a faster way?

    • @dylancanread
      @dylancanread  Před rokem

      Other than using the table of contents. unfortunately, I believe the easiest way to do this would be to open up grid view and then find the page you’re looking for. That way, ever time you turn the “page” you’ll actually be turning 9(I think?) pages. It’s not super efficient, but it’s better than turning individual pages.

    I have noticed that as well and it is irritating. I love books... but I am 56 and have TONS of books and i hate moving them. I have culled several.. not cause I didn't like them but because I am getting older, have no kids and if I ever move again.. I just decided I didn't want to just move them. THey take up space and while I still love physically opening a book (which yes, is a thing)... I do use my kindle more for convenience I am VERY selective about what books I choose to buy. Mostly reference or non fiction... or books I know I will return to. If I see a book I am interested in .. I first see if my library has it.. and get it that way... then I will see if I can find a used thrift copy somewhere... that has saved some money ... For instance, I want to own RONNIE PONTIACs AMERICAN METAPHYSICAL RELIGION.. but my library does not carry it (I told them to order it) .. I may break down and buy it physically... it has only been out for a year...

    Another point if you buy the hardback you can resell it when you are old and grey to get cash. You cannot sell that ebook. Amazon has it. So that makes us the chumps.
